HORIZONTAL PATHWAY refers to the area where communications pathway extends from the communications room to the work area communications outlet EMT conduit for outlets will be ¾ and will either stub into the access ceiling above or below each work area communications outlet. If a cable tray exists, extend conduits to the overhead cable tray All conduits installed under the current project where cable is not installed shall have a pull cord capable of 200 pounds pulling tension installed in them by the contractor Maximum the distance between pull points or pull boxes in a conduit run is 100 feet Any one conduit section cannot contain more than 180 o total bends Sweeping bends with radius equal or greater than 6 time the inside diameter of the conduit. So in a ¾ conduit the minimum bend radius would be Pull boxes shall be used when the length of a run is over 100 feet or if there are bends totaling more than 180 o or if there is a reverse bend in the run. Pull boxes shall be positioned so that the conduit ends align with each other, and shall be so located where they will be readily accessible and indicated on the as-builts Conduit runs shall be clearly labeled at both ends. In the communications room the conduit shall be labeled with the destination work area room number and conduit number. At the work area outlet the conduit shall be labeled in the outlet box indicating the communications room number where the conduit ends Cabling installed in ceiling space is preferred to be in cable tray. Instances where cable tray is not available, cabling must be properly supported and may not lay on the ceiling tiles. When supporting communications cabling all NEC codes governing how cabling is to be supported must be followed. Cable support attachments must be no more than three feet apart. 2 P a g e

6 4.09 Firestopping shall comply with applicable codes. Information on firestopping can be obtained from the EIA/TIA or BICSI standards manual. 5. HORIZONTAL CABLING is that portion of the cabling system which extends from the communications work area outlet to the nearest communications room Cable distances shall follow the EIA/TIA and BICSI standards of 295 feet for installation of Category 6 or 6a cabling Approved cables to be used in the horizontal cabling system are: A. Systimax 1071/2071 Category 6 unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable B. In special applications such as wireless access points, Systimax 1091/2091 Category 6a C. 50/125 micron OM3 laser optimized multimode fiber optic cable C. 8.3/125 micron singlemode fiber D. 75-ohm coaxial cable for video shall be RG-6 or RG-11, depending on distance and loss requirements and shall have a minimum of 95% braid 5.03 Cabling installed for wireless access points must be Systimax 1091/2091 Cat6a. 6. RISER CABLING connects communications room to communications room on the next floor or the main communications equipment room Topology of riser cabling shall use a star topology, radiating from the main equipment room to each communications room Cabled so that a home run will be made between the communications room on one floor and the main communications room. Cabling shall also be installed to allow access between each communications room Approved cables to be used in the riser cabling system are: A. Systimax 1071/2071 Category 6 unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable B.
