3 Section One: LTX Overview The Telect LTX 1RU, 2RU and 4RU bulkhead-style fiber-optic panels offer a cost-effective optical distribution point for patch-only, patch-and-splice, MPO/MTP conversions and splitter applications, all while fitting into an industry-standard footprint. Pre-loaded and unloaded panels are available to support most requirements. 1RU and 2RU Panels Applications: Low fiber counts, remote sites, huts, small cell, DAS Many applications require the termination of just a handful of fibers. Telect LTX panels are ideal for lower-density environments with the potential for scale. Occupying a minimal amount of equipment rack space, they fit into networks where footprint is a concern. Telect 1RU LTX panels just 1.75 inches in height terminate up to 18 fibers with standard SC, six-port LGX-style patch plates. Install eight-port plates for a 24-port panel. With small form-factor LC connectors, 12-port patch plates provide 36 terminations, or use 24-port patch plates to achieve 72 terminations in a 1RU. The 2RU panel provides double the termination capacity. A standard SC patch plates provide a 36- port panel in a 2RU. 4RU Panels Applications: Central office, C-RAN, data enterprise, high density, etc. The 4RU 144-port SC patch panel is one of the most commonly deployed bulkhead panel configurations in today s networks. This configuration uses SC adapters, with a standard bulkhead to accommodate 144 SC adapters. The result is a high-density solution with simple access to adapters for connections. With different patch plates, greater circuit density can be achieved. Eight-port LGX-style patch plates are available with SC adapters, allowing for a 96-port 4RU panel. For even greater density, 24-port LC patch plates create a 288-port panel. Patch Panels In high circuit-count applications, manageable circuit density is often a high priority. If a bulkhead panel is still the preferred platform for optical distribution, a Telect 144-port LTX patch panel is the highest-density SC option in a 4RU space. This 4RU panel uses a bulkhead plate that is pre-loaded, or populated, with 144 SC connectors. Rather than employing six-port or eight-port patch plates, the adapters are part of a single unit that is pre-fastened in the panel. 3

4 The same high density can be attained using 12-port LC patch plates. The 4RU panel holds a total of 12 patch plates, for 144 total terminations. Install 24-port LC patch plates, using a total of 12, for 288 LC terminations. Combination Panels Patch and Splice All Telect LTX panels can be configured for patch and splice in a single chassis. A compact 1RU can house up to 36 fibers, while the 2RU can host 72 fibers and the 4RU, 144 or 288 slices with with a stranded or mass fusion splice cassette option. A combination patch and splice system increases versatility and provides a multifunctional platform for optical distribution. Multifunctionality is accomplished in a single platform. Telect LTX combination panels range from 1RU to 4RU, with capacities from 12 to 288 fibers. Additional Functionality Splitter Modules and MPO Fiber optic splitting is a key application in many of today s optical networks, as network designers strive to maximize every available fiber. In a bulkhead-style panel, splitter modules can provide a platform to tap off a small portion of the signal (10%, for example) for non-intrusive test access without affecting the quality of the network signal. Telect offers a comprehensive range of splitter modules for bulkhead-style panels with a broad range of split ratios, connector types and configuration options. Wave division multiplexing (WDM) modules are also available as well as MPO configurations. 4

10 Section Three: Fiber Optic Splitter and WDM Modules The Telect splitter and wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) modules provide a protective, managed fiber cable environment for splitting/multiplexing/demultiplexing in application involving network testing and real-time monitoring. This standard defines the minimum quality requirements for Telect fiber optic splitters and WDM modules. The standard includes material and component specifications, performance, geometric and visual requirements for Telect fiber optic splitters and WDM modules. The standard for labeling and packaging of splitters and WDM modules is also within the scope of this section. Fiber Optic Splitter and WDM Material/Component Requirements All materials and components used to manufacture Telect fiber optic splitters and WDM modules need to meet Telecordia Core GR326, 1221, 1209 and RoHS requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, fiber optic cable, connectors, zirconium ceramic ferrules, boots and the epoxy used for securing fiber. Telect Purchasing, Engineering and Product Management require pre-approval for the use of any fiber optic material not meeting GR326, 1221, 1209 and RoHS requirements unless otherwise noted on Telect specifications or drawings. Any parameter not defined in this specification or on a Telect drawing that is considered critical to the performance of fiber optic splitter and WDM quality needs to be addressed with Telect by the supplier prior to production. NOTE: Fiber optic splitters and WDM modules will be identified per product code, serial number, mfg. date and location, and traceable to test results and cable lot.
