4 TO ENSURE SAFETY TO ENSURE SAFETY The following instructions must be observed at all times in order to prevent personal injury and physical damage to equipment and surroundings. The instructions are classified according to the degree of danger or damage which may occur if the product is used incorrectly. DANGER WARNING CAUTION Failure to follow the instructions will result in death or serious injury. Failure to follow the instructions could result in death or serious injury. Failure to follow the instructions could cause personal injury or physical damage to equipment and surroundings. WARNING When using this application, make sure that your smartphone is securely attached near your bicycle s handlebars using a special attachment, and firmly grip the handlebars with both hands. Do not focus on the view while riding, as doing so is dangerous as you will not be focusing on what is ahead of you. NOTE SHIMANO is not to be held responsible in any way if the smartphone attachment is damaged or broken while using this application. Running this application will increase the smartphone s battery usage. Keep an eye on the battery level during use. 4

7 Starting E-TUBE RIDE Starting E-TUBE RIDE 1. Once E-TUBE RIDE is installed, tap the E-TUBE RIDE icon. The Operating Precautions screen is displayed. 2. Read the text displayed on the screen and then tap "Agree." The view screen is displayed. Fig-1 Operating Precautions screen NOTE The Operating Precautions screen can be skipped by checking the "Do not show this next time" checkbox. When E-TUBE RIDE is started for the first time, the Terms of Use agreement screen is displayed prior to the Operating Precautions screen. After reading the entire Terms of Use, tap "Agree." 7

8 Starting E-TUBE RIDE NOTE Fig-2 Terms of Use agreement screen When E-TUBE RIDE is started for the first time on an Android device, a screen asking the user to grant access to location information is displayed prior to the Terms of Use agreement screen. Tap "Allow." If you tap "Do not allow," a message is displayed and E-TUBE RIDE is closed. Tap the E-TUBE RIDE icon again and tap "Allow" to start the application. If Bluetooth is turned OFF in the smartphone OS, a confirmation screen will be displayed. Tap "Allow" (Android) or "Set" (ios) and then turn Bluetooth ON in the OS. Android ios 8

9 Configuring a Bluetooth LE Connection with the Wireless Unit Configuring a Bluetooth LE Connection with the Wireless Unit The Bluetooth LE Settings screen is displayed when the application is started for the first time, or when it is started with an unregistered wireless unit connected. A list of nearby wireless units that can be connected is displayed. 1. Select the wireless unit to connect. The connection is made automatically. Fig-3 Bluetooth LE Settings screen 9

10 Configuring a Bluetooth LE Connection with the Wireless Unit 2. Tap "Connect" if unable to automatically connect for any reason (such as a connection timeout). NOTE If the wireless unit to connect has already been registered, it will be automatically connected when E-TUBE RIDE is started. Tap the icon on the view screen to display the Bluetooth LE Settings screen. To disconnect the connected wireless unit, tap "Disconnect." Fig-4 View screen 10

11 View Screens Switching the Display Method View Screens The view screen is displayed once the application has connected to the wireless unit. Switching the Display Method The view screen can be set to any of three display methods: three items, five items, or six items. The display method can be switched by pinching the screen out/in. The display view indicator on the bottom of the view screen shows the location of the current view and the number of views that can be displayed. 13

14 View Screens Customizing Display Items Customizing Display Items The locations of items can be switched and the displayed items can be changed. Changing Display Items 1. Tap and hold the item to change, and then release your finger. The display item can now be changed. 2. Tap the up/down button. This allows you to cycle through displayed items. To cancel changing a display item, tap a part of the screen other than the highlighted item. View screen (item able to be changed) 14

15 View Screens Customizing Display Items Items that can be displayed on the view screen Type of item Information displayed Icon Speed Displays speed information. * When the large icon is set to speed when displaying three items, you can switch between displaying the maximum speed and average speed by stopping the bicycle and tapping the icon. Battery level Displays battery level information for the wireless unit (in six levels). Cadence Displays cadence information. Maximum traveling distance Displays maximum traveling distance information according to the current assist mode. Traveling distance Displays traveling distance information. Traveling time Displays traveling time information. 15

Gear position Displays information on the rear gear position. Time Displays the current time from the smartphone device. Switching Display Items 1. Tap and hold the item to change, and then release your finger. The display item can now be changed. 2. Move the item over the item to switch, and then release your finger. The positions of the items are switched. To cancel changing a display item, tap a part of the screen other than the highlighted item. 16

19 View Screens Speedometer/Assist Power Meter Speedometer/Assist Power Meter When the view screen is set to display three items, the large icon at the top shows the speedometer and assist power meter. Speedometer Assist power meter Speedometer Assist power meter The indicator moves clockwise along the circle, with 0.0 km/h at the bottom. The speed is indicated along the circle, with a maximum of 50 km/h. Tap this to display the maximum speed and average speed. The indicator moves counter-clockwise along the circle, with 0% at the bottom. The speed is indicated along the half circle, with a maximum of 100%. The gradation varies according to the strength of the assist power. Detailed Gear Information When the view screen displays three items and the gear position is displayed, detailed gear information is shown. Shifting mode Shifting advice Start mode Shifting mode Shows the current shifting mode. Shift up Shifting advice Shift down Start mode Shows the current start mode. 19

20 Configuring Settings Displaying the Menu Screen Configuring Settings The Setting Menu screen is used to configure a range of settings, such as screen display and shifting switches. 21 Configuring Settings Setting the Language Setting the Language The display language can be changed. 1. Tap "Language" on the Setting Menu screen. The Language Setting screen is displayed. 22 Configuring Settings Settings Units Settings Units Display units can be changed. 1. Tap "Unit" on the Setting Menu screen. The Unit Setting screen is displayed. Item Details km mile Displayed in km Displayed in miles Setting the Beep Sound The beep sound can be turned ON or OFF. 1. Tap "Beep" on the Setting Menu screen. It will switch between ON and OFF. 23 Configuring Settings Setting Sleep Mode Setting Sleep Mode The device can be set to enter sleep mode if it is not used for a period of time. 1. Tap "Do not sleep" on the Setting Menu screen. It will switch between ON and OFF. Item Details ON OFF Does not enter sleep mode even if it is not used for some time Enters sleep mode according to the setting on the smartphone Setting Assist Power Display The application can be set to display or not display the assist power meter. 1. Tap "Display assist power" on the Setting Menu screen. It will switch between ON and OFF. Item Details ON OFF Displays the assist power meter Does not display the assist power meter Setting Gear Details Display The application can be set to display or not display detailed gear information. 1. 24 Configuring Settings Selecting Views to Display Selecting Views to Display Screens one through five can be selected for display on the view screen. 1. Tap "Select view to display" on the Setting Menu screen. The Select View to Display screen is displayed. Fig-8 Android Fig-8 ios Select View to Display screen 2. Place a check in the box or boxes of the screen to display, and then tap "Confirm." "Confirm" cannot be tapped unless at least one selection is checked. 24

25 Configuring Settings Setting the Shifting Switch Setting the Shifting Switch The shifting switch and action can be set for moving screens. 1. Tap "Shifting switch" on the Setting Menu screen. The shifting switch settings are displayed. Fig-9 Android Fig-9 ios Shifting switch settings screen 25

"Confirm" cannot be tapped if the same setting is selected for both "Move view to left" and "Move view to right." 27 Configuring Settings Resetting Settings Resetting Settings The view screen setting or all settings can be returned to their defaults. 1. Tap "Setting reset" on the Setting Menu screen. Tap "Yes" on the Confirm Reset screen. The selected items are returned to their default values. 30 Alert Displays Maintenance Alert Alert Displays Maintenance Alert This is displayed when a maintenance alert occurs, or if the maintenance alert day has passed. If this screen is displayed, please take the bicycle to your nearest distributor for maintenance. Tap "Close" to close the alert. Maintenance Alert screen 30

Tapping "Warning details" will open the web browser and take you to a page where you can get more detailed information. Check the website for information on how to respond. If this screen is displayed, please take the bicycle to your nearest distributor for maintenance. The alert will disappear if "Close" is tapped or the warning is canceled. Warning Alert screen 31

32 Alert Displays Error Alert Error Alert This is displayed when an error occurs. Tapping "Error details" will open the web browser and take you to a page where you can get more detailed information. Check the website for information on how to respond. If this screen is displayed, please take the bicycle to your nearest distributor for maintenance. The alert will disappear if the error is canceled. Error Alert screen 32

33 Screen display while riding Screen display while riding If the system detects that the bicycle is being ridden, all screens other than error alerts will switch to the view screen. You cannot switch to each detail screens from the view screen or tap a flashing icon to display each detail screen while riding. 33
