3 Front * Fan Card reader *Buttons - MENU - OK - Left - Right - Up - Down Buttons* CA module connector On indication = green LED QPSK-lock = yellow LED Alarm = red LED Reset-button Connection for programming unit * The fan is temperature regulated and starts between 35 to 40 degrees Celsius. THE RESET BUTTON Press to activate the programming unit. The display immediately shows the receiver s software version. 3

5 Smart card Do not use the CA module and programme card at the same time. * embedded Conax SMART CARD CA-MODULE DVB/CI-SOCKET CARD READER* SMART CARD A CA module connector and card reader for downloaded (embedded) coding systems is located at the front of. CA MODULE Insert the programme card into the CA module. The gold-coloured interface on the card must point towards the front of the module. Insert the module with the programme card into the front of correctly as shown in the diagram on the front of the receiver. CARD READER The card should be inserted with the gold coloured contact surface inwards -turned to the left. DISCONNECT THE WATCH-DOG When a start up and update of the smartcard is needed the watch-dog function can be disconnected to speed up the update. Procedure: When a program is selected press the MENU button, when the smartcard is updated press MENU button again to return back from setup menu, the program name will be shown in the display. Important: CA modules for different coding systems can be obtained from the programme companies. OSD information on the programme card may differ, depending on the coding system being used. The CA module and programme card must always be used separately, never at the same time. 5
6 Programming unit HP-01 is a portable programming unit which is used for the programming of the QAM receiver s frequency, symbol rate, modulator and other settings. Before programming the digital receiver it must be in operation and a correct QAM signal connected. Connect the cord to the programming unit. Please refer to the markings on the cord and the palm unit. Connect the programming unit to the 15-pole D-sub-socket on. Press the Reset button at the front above the D-sub-socket. Press the Menu button to start progamming. Please refer to the menu tree on page 7. BUTTONS Up - use this button to select settings on menus. Left - use this button to select numbers. To change the channel. Right - use this button to select numbers. To select options on the Info menu. Down - use this button to select settings on menus. MENU - use this button to activate the menu. De-activate the Info menu. NEXT - save and move to the next menu option. BACK Under the flap on the back a D-sub connector is found, which is for download of new software 6

8 Programming All programming is carried in two ways: 1. With the buttons on the front of the receiver and together with the menu on the TV screen. 2. On the s hand programming unit HP-01. Connect the programming unit. Press the Reset button and the name of the channel will appear after a few seconds. TRANSPONDER FREQUENCY QAM MENU NEXT Press the Menu button. Use the Up/Down buttons to specify a number. Use the Left/Right buttons to move between the numbers. Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. ENTER TRANS FREQ The value of the setting of frequency (QAM frequency) depends on the QAM system settings in the cable net. SYMBOL RATE QAM Use the Up/Down buttons to specify a number. Use the Left/Right buttons to move between the numbers. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. ENTER TRANS SYMB
9 MODULATION FORMAT QAM Use the Up/Down buttons to select modulation format. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. WHICH CODING 64 Format (QAM) Continue to page 11 if the modulator is not mounted BUILT-IN MODULATOR When the built-in modulator is mounted in the following menu options are activated automatically. They are marked (Modulator) and appear in the display during programming. FREQ (Modulator) Select desired output channel frequency ( MHz). Use the Up/Down buttons to select the desired value. Use the Left/Right buttons to increase/decrease values. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. MODULATOR FREQ
10 DEPTH (Modulator) Select modulator depth. Available settings are Recommended setting is (75%). Use the Up/Down buttons to select modulator depth. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. MODULATOR DEPTH. 75 SND SUB (Modulator) Select transmission system BG, I, DK, MN. The factory setting is BG. Use the Up/Down buttons to select transmission system. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. MODULATOR SND SUB. BG AUDIO MODE (Modulator) Select audio mode, mono or stereo. The factory setting is stereo. Use the Up/Down buttons to select stereo or mono. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. MODULATOR MODE. STEREO SND DEV (Modulator) Can be an available feature in later software versions. 10
11 PISNDRAT (Modulator) Select picture to sound ratio. Fixed to 15 db NEXT Use the Up/Down buttons to select the desired picture to sound ratio. Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. MODULATOR PISNDRAT. 15 Remark! In later software versions available settings are between 11 to 18 db. There are no more menu options for the modulator LANGUAGE sound Use the Up/Down buttons to select the desired language. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. ENTER SOUND LANGUAGE SWE LANGUAGE subtitles 1 Use the Up/Down buttons to select the desired language. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. ENTER SUBT. LANG. 1 SWE 11
12 LANGUAGE subtitles 2 Use the Up/Down buttons to select the desired language. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. ENTER SUBT. LANG. 2 ENG NOTE! You can select two subtitles settings. If your first choice is not available the receiver will select subtitles 2 (LANG. 2) DVB text Select DVB Text if required. A number of channels use this function. Check with the programme provider whether the channel broadcasts DVB text. The factory setting is NO. NEXT Use the Up/Down buttons to select No=off / Yes=on. Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. DVB SUBT. AUTO NO NOTE! If the channel does not use DVB Text and YES has been selected for DVB Subt, then the receiver might not function properly or, in some cases, crash. 12
13 TELET. PAGE Select a tele text page when no text PID is available. The factory setting is 000. This is only used in special occasions when none or wrong information are transmitted. Use the Up/Down buttons to specify a number. Use the Left/Right buttons to move between the number. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. NB! Use default value 000, if not the PID tele text will not work. ENTER TELET. PAGE 000 DUAL SOUND Dual sound is used when two different languages need to be received. When selected ON the two languages transmitted on the same pair will be decoded and put on the different audio outputs L and R. The factory setting is OFF. Use the Up/Down buttons to select On or Off. NEXT Press the Next button to move to the next step on the menu. NB! To receive STEREO or only one language on both L and R channel the value must be OFF. DUAL SOUND OFF VIDEO OUTPUT Select video system (PAL, SECAM, NTSC, AUTO). The factory setting is AUTO. Use the Up/Down buttons to select video system. NEXT Press the Next button to store settings and start channel search, see page 14. VIDEO OUTPUT PAL 13
14 SEARCHING FOR CHANNELS After adjusting the settings for the desired transponder, a channel search will be carried out. QAM lock (a yellow LED) will shine with a constant light when the receiver locates channels. If the alarm (red LED) lights up the installation and settings must be checked. NEXT NEXT Select YES and press the Next button to start the channel search. The display indicates that the search is in progress. After completion a menu will appear displaying all channels which were found on the transponder. Select NO to set the PID, see page 20. Use the Up/Down buttons to select a required channel. Press the Next button and after a few seconds the channel will be displayed on the TV screen. Important: PIDs are only to be used when you have problems finding a required channel. START TRANS SCAN YES SCANNING... PLEASE WAIT CHOOSE CHAN DISCOVERY (VIDEO) CHANGING CHANNEL Changing to another channel within the transponder can easily be done with the palm unit. Connect the programming unit. Press the Reset button and the name of the channel will appear after a few seconds. NEXT Press the Left button. Use the Up/Down buttons to select a channel. Press the Next button and after a few seconds the channel will be displayed on the TV screen. DISCOVERY 14
15 Information All information is controlled from the hand programming unit HP-01 to, except CI information, which is displayed on the TV screen. Connect the programming unit. Press the Reset button and the name of the channel will be displayed after a few seconds. BER Bit Error Rate Press the Right button for information on BER before correction. -04/-08 Indicates that the signal quality is adequate. -03 Indicates that the signal quality is inadequate. -02 Operating limit for sound and pictures. Press the Right button to move to the next step on the menu. BER XXX E-07 EB/NO 13,0DB BER XXX E-03 EB/NO 8,0DB EB/NO Gives information about the quality of the received signal. It s displayed together with the BER value and Wait is displayed until the value is calculated. <7 Inadequate 7 9 Bad Good Very good BER XXX E-07 EB/NO 13,0DB BER XXX E-03 EB/NO 8,0DB Remark! BER and Eb/No information will be an available feature in later software versions. 15
16 LOG FILE A log file is created in connection with any errors. Six different types of error can be logged in the file, see page 21. Press the Right button twice. NEXT Press the Next button. Use the Up/Down buttons to move to the error file. Press the Menu button to return to the MENU Information menu Press the Right button to move to the next step on the menu. VIEW LOG 1 ENTRIES DELETE LOG FILE All information which is stored in the log file can be deleted. NEXT NEXT Press the Right button three times. Press the Next button. Select YES or NO by using the Up/ Down buttons. Press the Next button again. Press the Right button to move to the next step on the menu. CLEAR LOG 1 ENTRIES CLEAR ERROR LOG YES 16
17 CARD INFORMATION CI When card information is activated (only when card is inserted), a menu will be displayed on the TV screen. From this menu, several options can be selected. The appearance of the menu will differ depending on which coding system is being used. Press the Right button four times. NEXT Press the Next button and after a few seconds the menu will appear on the TV screen. Select a function using the Up/ NEXT Down buttons and press Next. MENU Press the Menu button to return to the Information menu. Press the Right button to move to the next step on the menu. CI CONTROL XXX:XX:XX:XX IMPORTANT! If OSD function is selected in position Off ; card information will not be shown on TV-screen. (Concerning OSD function see below). OSD on screen display Select OSD to ON and the menu will appear on the TV screen. Press he Right button five times. Use the Up/Down button to select the OSD (On/Off). Press the Right button to move to the next step on the menu. OSD CONTROL OSD IS ON 17
18 OUT LVL (Modulator) The output level can be set to the following values: 0 27 which gives between 50 80dBµV. Press the Right button six times. Use the Up/Down buttons to select desired output level. Press the Right button to move to the next step on the menu. MODULATOR OUT. LVL 27 AUDIO LEVEL It s possible to change the audio level with 15 steps. Choose 15 for full audio range and change it with the Up/Down buttons. Press the Right button seven times. Select the required audio level with the Up/Down buttons. Press the Right button to move to the next step on the menu. AUDIO LEVEL CURRENT 15 FAST PMT If Fast PMT ON is selected then the receiver will not reset when fast or simple changes are made in the PMT (Program Map Table). Select Fast PMT OFF to allow the receiver to reset. Press the Right button eight times. Use the Up/Down button to select On or Off. Press the Right button to move to the next step on the menu. FAST PMT OFF NOTE! Fast PMT OFF must always be chosen when the receiver is set for a Time Share channel. For channels which change between the local and main programmes the Fast PMT ON setting must be chosen. 18
19 SUBTITLE transparency A change of transparency of subtitle background is possible in 5 steps from 0% transparency to 100%. (Deault 50%). Press the Right button nine times. Use the Up/Down button to select the required transparency. Press the Right button to move to the next step on the menu. SUBTITLE Transp. 50% SUBTITLE position A change of the subtitle position i possible in six steps from zero to five. (Default 2). Press the Right button ten times. Use the Up/Down button to select the required transparency. Press the Right button to move to the channel menu. SUBTITLE Position. 2 19
20 PID setting PID setting is only to be used by advanced users if the auto search function fails. To set the V-PID, A-PID, PCR-PID and Text-PID, the PID tables in the channel lists must be converted into HEX. PCR-PID is compulsory information, (it is often the same as V-PID for TV channels and A-PID for radio channels). Text-PID is not compulsory in order to receive sound and pictures, please enter 0000 instead. SEARCHING FOR CHANNELS PID = PACKET ID MENU Press the Menu button. Then press the Next button until NEXT the Start Trans Scan menu appears. Select NO for PID setting. Use the Left/Right and Up/Down buttons to set the required PID. START TRANS SCAN NO Menu information Press MENU button and the menu will appear on the TV screen. In this menu information about the receiver will be found. A: Model Software version Time after reset B: Selected IF frequency C: PID adjusting. D: In later versions of software. E: Displays the reasone for error, see page 69. 21 Error log Display actual number in the log file. ERROR LOG 002:03 XXXXXXXX Display the reason for error, see below. Error 01 is displayed with date and time according to the TV channel information ERROR LOG 002:03 XXXXXXXX Display the time in seconds after the error occur when the Reset button is used or power up. ERROR LOG 002: Remark: If some error occurs then several messages is created depending of the reason. When the Cam is removed the receiver make a reset every 60 sec and the log file get entries until the smart card is connected. Message 01 = Power up after manual or automatic reset and power up. 02 = QAM loss when the receiver lost the signal. 03 = QAM lock when the receiver find and lock the signal. 04 = Video stop if the program card have no access or the video signal is lost. 05 = Audio stop if the audio disappeares for any reasons. 06 = Lip Sync When the video and the audio are out of sync. 21
