2 Compact, intelligent white cove light for brilliantly illuminating interior spaces iw Cove Powercore is a high-performance, white-light LED fixture that brilliantly illuminates alcoves and other interior spaces wherever adjustable color temperature is required. This compact, versatile fixture offers color temperatures ranging from a warm 3000 K to a cool 6500 K, along with the improved operational efficiency, simplified installation, and cost-effectiveness of Powercore technology. With its rotating housing, flexible end-toend locking power connectors, and two beam angles, is the perfect choice for a wide range of retail, exhibit, hospitality, and architectural applications. Integrates Powercore technology Powercore technology rapidly, efficiently, and accurately controls power output to fixtures directly from line voltage. The Philips iw Data Enabler merges line voltage with control data and delivers them to the fixture over a single standard cable, dramatically simplifying installation and lowering total system cost. Wide range of color temperature and brightness Channels of warm white and cool white LEDs produce color temperatures ranging from 3000K 6500K. You can adjust fixture brightness while varying or maintaining constant color temperature. High-intensity, consistent white light iw Cove Powercore offers the greatest possible light intensity at all color temperatures. Advanced LEDs and optics deliver unequalled color uniformity and light distribution. Universal power input range iw Cove Powercore accepts power input of 100 to 240 VAC. Depending on input voltage, a single iw Data Enabler can support up to 78 fixtures at 240 VAC, installed end-to-end in a single run. Easy installation Contractor-friendly installation using standard mounting and wiring dramatically simplifies installation and helps lower total system cost. Easy-to-install 4 ft (1.2 m) mounting tracks allow quick project setup in linear applications. Flexible mounting and positioning With end-toend locking power connectors that can make 180º turns, these compact 12 in (305 mm) cove fixtures are easy to position in even the most challenging mounting circumstances. Optional mounting tracks support vertical and overhead positioning. The 40 ft (12.2 m) leader cable is field-cuttable. 1 ft (305 mm) and 5 ft (1.5 m) jumper cables can add extra space between fixtures. Two Beam Angles is available in medium (50 x 50 ) and true forwardthrow asymmetric (20 x 30 x 160 ) beam angles to reduce light loss and optimize efficiency in a variety of cove configurations. 3 Variable Atmosphere at the Touch of a Button Rustic Kitchen Boston-based Rustic Kitchen Bistro & Lounge emits an inviting glow, largely due to its famous wood burning oven and warm lighting. The restaurant owners wanted warm, attractive lighting to properly accentuate the alcoves within the Biltmore-inspired ceiling in the restaurant s Tuscan Room. They explored various light sources, including neon and fluorescent, but they did not offer the desired color temperatures or the long-life, lowmaintenance nature of LEDs. They chose a tunable white light fixture for the installation. This high-performance linear fixture provides controllable white light in color temperatures ranging from a warm 3000 K to a cool 6500 K; offering a variable atmosphere with a simple push of a button. Unlike conventional light sources, the fixtures maintain their precise color temperature even as they are dimmed. Now, the lighting allows the staff to dial in the precise shade of white light that they desire selecting a cooler color temperature during the day and a warmer color temperature in the evening. 8 Installation offers consistent, color-variable indoor white alcove lighting with Powercore technology. Powercore technology, which integrates LED power and data management within the fixture, eases installation by eliminating the need for external power supplies. Owner / User Responsibilities It is the responsibility of the contractor, installer, purchaser, owner, and user to install, maintain, and operate fixtures in such a manner as to comply with all applicable codes, state and local laws, ordinances, and regulations. Consult with the appropriate electrical inspector to ensure compliance. Installing in Damp Locations When installing in damp locations, you must seal all junction boxes and iw Data Enablers with electronics-grade RTV silicone sealant so that moisture cannot enter or accumulate in wiring compartments, cables, fixtures, or other electrical parts. You must use suitable outdoor-rated junction boxes when installing in damp locations. Additionally, you must use gaskets, clamps, and other parts required for installation to comply with all applicable local and national codes. Create a Lighting Design Plan 1. You control fixtures by assigning them to zones. Zones are groups of fixtures that operate in unison. iw Scene Controller adjusts the brightness and color temperature of fixtures residing in up to four separate zones You create a zone by assigning a specific zone designation (1 9, A F) to an iw Data Enabler, using a switch located within the iw Data Enabler s housing. All fixtures attached to the iw Data Enabler reside within the designated zone. If you have multiple iw Data Enablers in a run, you can create up to 15 separate zones, each containing one or more iw Data Enablers. All fixtures attached to all iw Data Enablers with the same zone designation reside in that zone and operate in unison. 2. Determine a convenient location to install the iw Scene Controller. Ensure that the provided Leader Cable of 50 ft (15.2 m) will reach the first iw Data Enabler in the run to which the iw Scene Controller connects. 3. Determine the appropriate location of each iw Data Enabler in relation to the fixtures, and of the fixtures in relation to each other. The iw Data Enabler and first fixture must be separated by no more than the 40 ft (12.2 m) length of the Leader Cable. fixtures are installed in series. The in-line connectors allow end-to-end fixture connections for the best visual effects. Joined directly together, the connectors allow for up to 1 in (25 mm) spacing without a jumper cable. When you need to separate fixtures by more than an inch, use the 1 ft (305 mm) or 5 ft (1.5 m) jumper cables. The maximum number of fixtures each iw Data Enabler can support depends on specific configuration details such as fixture length, fixture spacing (jumper cables), circuit size, line voltage, and Leader Cable length. As an example, the table to the right lists the maximum number of fixtures in a single run at various voltages, assuming iw Cove Powercore fixtures installed end-to-end on a 20 A circuit, using the standard 40 ft (12.2 m) Leader Cable. Keep in mind that these figures, provided as a guideline, are accurate for the specified configuration only. Changing the configuration can affect the fixture run lengths. 9 In addition to maximum fixture run lengths determined by the electrical configuration, each iw Data Enabler imposes maximum run lengths based on data integrity. To ensure data integrity, maximum individual run lengths should not exceed 175 ft (53.3 m), and the total cable length per iw Data Enabler should not exceed 400 ft (122 m). Using the fixture s power consumption and efficiency ratings, the lighting designer or architect should calculate the cove dimensions to ensure that operating temperatures remain within safe levels. The designer or architect should also determine the cove s fascia design and fixture setback based on the cove dimensions and room width. For consistent results, the cove width and height should accommodate the fixtures minimum mixing distances. Install iw Data Enablers and iw Scene Controllers 1. Set each iw Data Enabler zone, if necessary, and install all iw Data Enablers. One leader cable is required to connect each run or series of fixtures to an iw Data Enabler port. 2. Configure and install all iw Scene Controllers. The provided 50 ft (15.2 m) leader cable is required to connect iw Scene Controller to the first iw Data Enabler in a run. Product Guide 9

10 Prepare for the Installation 1. Verify that all supporting equipment (switches, controllers) is in place. 2. If your installation calls for jumper cables to add space between fixtures, make sure they are available. 3. Ensure that all additional parts (optional mounting tracks, mounting hardware, terminators) and tools are available. Install the Fixtures You can mount fixtures directly to a wall, ceiling, cabinet, or other secure surface. For straight linear applications, you can install several iw Cove Powercore fixtures in optional 4 ft (1.2 m) lengths of mounting track to ensure a straight run. (Optional) Install Mounting Tracks 1. Field-cut the mounting tracks to the desired length with hacksaws or tin snips. OK 2. Install the mounting tracks using hardware suitable for the mounting surface. To ensure proper fixture fit, hardware must not extend above the track standoffs after installation. The recommended maximum spacing between screws is 12 in (305 mm). Mount and Connect the Fixtures Make sure the power is OFF before mounting and connecting fixtures. 1. Rotate an fixture as necessary to provide unobstructed access to the mounting holes. 2. Position the first fixture in a series. Fixtures with the asymmetric 20 x 30 x 160 lens are labeled to indicate the direction in which the majority of light will be projected. Make sure that the fixtures are positioned accordingly. You can use the fixture base as a template when pre-drilled pilot holes are required. 11 If using mounting tracks on vertical or overhead surfaces, or if not using mounting tracks, attach the fixture with four #6 (3.5 mm) mounting screws (not included) suitable for the mounting surface. Ensure that the male connector is in position to receive data and power from the leader cable s female connector. 3. Position the next fixture in the series, matching the male connector end to the female connector of the previously mounted fixture. Attach the fixture to the surface or snap it into the track. CLICK!
