VITC should be recorded on lines 19 and 21 and should be identical to the LTC. There should be no flashing image or repetitive patterns resulting in brightness changes affecting over 10% of the screen at a rate exceeding 3 flashes a second. Highly saturated red flashing is particularly dangerous. 2

3 Labelling of the Tape The tape should be labelled with the product name. The aspect ratio of the content should be clearly displayed on the label and clock if such exists. Please Note: Audio line up tone should be identical in phase on both audio tracks for mono material or audio 1 interrupted tone and audio 2 continuous tones for stereo material. Every tape must include : legal rights statement (according template), recording s technical card Additional Notes: All commercials must be multiplication of 5 All commercials must be produced in whole seconds, commercial has to finish on 24 frame (for example commercial 15 has to finish at 10:00:14:24, commercial 30-10:00:29:24) Aspect Ratio: Material may be delivered in either 16:9 or 4:3. Discovery Channel, Discovery Science, TLC Poland, Discovery Turbo Xtra, Animal Planet and ID transmit as 16:9 channels; Discovery Historia transmit as 4:3. Discovery Channel and TLC is broadcasted also in HD, commercials only in SD according to above technical specification are accepted Commercial in 16:9 FHA aired on Discovery Historia will have black bars on the top and bottom of the screen Commercial in 4:3 aired on Discovery Channel, Discovery Science, TLC, Discovery Turbo Xtra, Animal Planet and ID will have black bars on the left and right side of the screen If a commercial exists in both 4:3 and 16:9 FHA aspect ratio, please send the version in 16:9 FHA aspect ratio, as our preference. Please do not send one commercial in two formats, if commercial is delivered in both formats, only commercial in format 16:9 will be used. For all delivering materials (16:9, 4:3), suppliers should ensure that onscreen elements such as text and graphics are positioned within the Graphics safe area as per EBU Technical Recommendation R Television Production for 16:9 Widescreen: Safe Areas. Information outside this area can be cut off. 3

4 Material in 4:3 Transmission 4:3 material on channel 16:9 (DC, TLC, ID, DS, DTX) Discovery Networks Europe s logo sit in the top of the screen throughout the duration of the commercial break. Logos of Discovery Channel, Discovery Turbo Xtra, Discovery Science, TLC, Animal Planet, Discovery Historia, ID sit in the top left corner of the screen as it is shown below In cases when the counting break duration clock appears in commercial breaks it s placed straight under the logo and does not exceed red zone showed on graphics below. 4
