You do not need to onnet a able diretly to the main projetor unit. You an onnet up to five AV devies to the WirelessHD Transmitter at the same time, and swith images using the remote ontrol. You an also onnet other output devies suh as televisions, and swith the devie. 18 Preparing Installing Various Projetion Methods Warning A speial method of installation is required when suspending the projetor from a eiling (eiling mount). If it is not installed orretly, it ould fall ausing an aident and injury. If you use adhesives, lubriants, or oil on the eiling mount fixing points to prevent srews from loosening, or if you use things suh as lubriants or oils on the projetor, the projetor ase may rak ausing it to fall from its eiling mount. This ould ause serious injury to anyone under the projetor and also damage the projetor. Do not setup the projetor on its side. This may ause malfuntions to our. Try not to setup the projetor in loations subjet to high humidity and dust, or in loations subjet to smoke from fires or tobao smoke. Attention Clean the air filter one every three months. Clean it more often if the environment is partiularly dusty. s p.89 Plaing on a table and so on and projeting Suspending from the eiling and projeting When projeting from a eiling, hange Projetion to a eiling setting. s Settings - Projetion p.70 Using lens shift With lens shift, you an adjust the projetion position up, down, left, and right. 20 Preparing Conneting a Devie Attention Make able onnetions before onneting to a power outlet. Chek the shape of the able's onnetor and the shape of the port, and then onnet. If you fore a onnetor of a different shape into the port, it ould ause damage and a malfuntion to our. EH-TW9200W/EH-TW8200W omes with an interfae over allowing you to learly see the onnetor setion on the rear. 21 Preparing Conneting a Computer To projet images from a omputer, onnet the omputer using one of the following methods. (EH-TW9200W/EH-TW9200/EH-TW8200W/EH-TW8200 only) s p.22 Conneting External Devies Conneting to the Trigger out port To onnet external devies suh as motorized sreens, onnet a mini-jak stereo able (3.5 mm) to the Trigger Out port. When set to on, a signal (12 V DC) is output from this port to ommuniate the projetor's status (on or off) to onneted devies suh as eletri sreens. When using the Trigger out port, set the Trigger Out funtion. s Extended - Operation - Trigger Out p.73 Conneting WirelessHD devies (EH-TW9200W/EH-TW8200W only) The projetor reeives transmissions from the WirelessHD Transmitter, and projets the images. s p.52 Change the projeted image by pressing the button on the remote ontrol or the button on the ontrol panel. When reeiving WirelessHD images, make sure WirelessHD is set to On. s Settings - WirelessHD p.70 You an hange whih devie is displayed by seleting a devie from Devie Connetions in HDMI Link. s HDMI Link-Devie Connetions p.62 20

22 Preparing Conneting smartphones or tablets (EH-TW9200W/EH-TW8200W only) You an onnet MHL ompatible smartphones or tablets to the WirelessHD Transmitter. Use an MHL ompatible able to onnet the miro USB port of smartphones and tablets to the HDMI5 port on the WirelessHD Transmitter. You an operate smartphones or tablets from the projetor remote ontrol. You an also view video and listen to musi while harging a smartphone or tablet. Attention Be sure to use an MHL ompatible able for making onnetions. During harging, the smartphone or tablet ould generate heat, ause a liquid leak, explode or generate other onditions that ould result in a fire. When a onnetion is made using an MHL-HDMI onversion adapter, it may not be possible to harge or ontrol the devie from the remote ontrol. Some devies use more power during video playbak than what is supplied and will therefore not enable harging during video playbak or other operations. Removing the Interfae Cover The interfae over is attahed to the onnetor setion on the rear of EH-TW9200W/EH-TW8200W. Remove this over when using a able to onnet a devie. There are gaps at the bottom of the interfae over that allows you to pull the over forward and lift it from the grooves at the top. When reattahing, first insert the protruding setions into the grooves at the top. Make sure you store the interfae over safely, as you need this when transporting the projetor. 21

23 Preparing Conneting an HDMI Cable Clamp (EH-TW9200W/EH-TW9200/EH-TW8200W/EH- TW8200 only) If the HDMI able is thik and hangs down, make sure you seure it to the able holder with an HDMI lamp so that the able's weight does not disonnet it from the port. 22

24 Preparing Preparing the Remote Control Installing the Remote Control Batteries Attention Chek the positions of the (+) and (-) marks inside the battery holder to ensure the batteries are inserted the orret way. You annot use other batteries exept for the AA size manganese or alkaline. a Remove the battery over. While pushing the battery ompartment over ath, lift the over up. Reattah the battery over. Press the over until it liks into plae. b Replae the old batteries with new batteries. Chek the polarity of the batteries (+) and (-) before installing. If delays in the responsiveness of the remote ontrol our or if it does not operate, it probably means that the batteries are beoming flat. When this happens, replae them with new batteries. Have two AA size manganese or alkaline batteries ready. 23

26 Basi Operations Starting and Ending Projetion Turning on the Projetor and Projeting a Connet the equipment to the projetor. d Turn on the projetor. Remote ontrol Control panel b Connet the power ord. Connet using the power ord supplied. Turn on the onneted equipment. The lens shutter opens, and projetion starts. When Diret Power On is set to On, you an start projeting by simply onneting the power ord to the projetor without having to press any buttons. s Extended - Operation - Diret Power On p.73 Warning Do not look into the lens during projetion. This projetor provides a Child Lok funtion to prevent hildren from aidentally turning the power on and a Control Panel Lok funtion to prevent aidental operations and so on. s Settings - Lok Setting - Child Lok/Control Panel Lok p.70 When using at an altitude of 1500 m or more, set High Altitude Mode to On. s Extended - Operation - High Altitude Mode p.73 This projetor provides an Auto Setup funtion to automatially selet the optimum settings when the input signal for the onneted omputer image hanges. s Signal - Auto Setup p.68 This projetor omes with a Trigger out port to ommuniate the urrent status of the projetor's power (on/off) to external devies. When using this funtion, set Trigger Out. s Extended - Operation - Trigger Out p.73 25

27 Basi Operations If the Target Image is not Projeted If the image is not projeted, you an hange the soure using one of the following methods. Remote ontrol Control panel Press the button for the target port. Press the button and selet the target port. Press the button to onfirm the seletion. For video equipment, start playbak first and then hange the soure. If the olor looks unnatural when hanging to a Video or Component soure, hek that the port you have onneted to is the same as the Input Signal. s Extended - Input Signal - Video Signal/ Component p.73 Turning Off a b Turn off the onneted equipment. When Power Off Link is set to On in the HDMI Link menu, turning off HDMI CEC ompatible equipment may also turn off the projetor. s Settings - HDMI Link - Power Off Link p.70 Press the button on the remote ontrol or the projetor's ontrol panel. Remote ontrol Control panel Press the button again. Projetion ends, and the lens shutter loses automatially. When Standby Confirmation is set to Off, you an turn off the projetor by pressing the button on the remote ontrol one. s Extended - Display - Standby Confirmation p.73 A onfirmation message is displayed. d Wait until ool-down is omplete. The operation indiator on the projetor's ontrol panel stops flashing. e Disonnet the power ord. If the power ord is onneted, some eletriity is onsumed even if no operations are made. 26

28 Basi Operations Adjusting the Projeted Sreen Displaying the Test Pattern When adjusting the zoom/fous or the projetion position just after setting up the projetor, you an display a test pattern instead of onneting video equipment. Press the button on the remote ontrol to display the test pattern. You an adjust the display position and so on by using this test pattern. For EH-TW9200W/EH-TW9200, you an also selet patterns that display R (red), G (green), and B (blue) individually, as well as the pattern for adjusting the display position. You an use it as a pattern to perform olor adjustment when an image signal is being input. Press the button to end the test pattern display. Adjusting the Projetor's Tilt If the projetion sreen is tilted (the left and right sides of the projetor are at different heights) when the projetor is setup on a table, adjust the front foot so that both sides are level with eah other. Adjusting the Position of the Projeted Image (Lens Shift) If the projetor annot be setup in front of the sreen, you an adjust the position of the image by using lens shift. Make adjustments using the lens shift dial. You an adjust the position up, down, left, and right within the range of the dotted line shown in the illustration on the right. The vertial (V) position (up and down) an be adjusted by up to 96% of the height of the sreen, while the horizontal (H) position (right and left) an be adjusted by up to 47% of the width of the sreen. When the image is made darker, the image appears more full-bodied but shading for the darker setions is harder to distinguish. When the image is made brighter, the bright setions beome whiter and shading is lost. When the image is made darker, shading for the bright setions is more vividly expressed. When the projetor annot detet a 3D format Some 3D TV broadasts may not ontain 3D format signals. If this happens, set the 3D format manually. Press the button to set the 3D format on the AV devie. For details on 3D format settings on the AV devie, see the doumentation supplied with the AV devie. When the 3D format has not been orretly set up, an image will not be orretly projeted as shown below. If the 3D image annot be viewed Chek the following if the 3D effet is not displayed orretly, even after setting the 3D formats. The synhronization timing for the 3D Glasses may have been inversed. Remove the protetive stikers before use. Charging the 3D Glasses The following harging methods are available, depending on the model of 3D Glasses being used. If you have a WirelessHD Transmitter, you an use it to harge the glasses. If you do not have a WirelessHD Transmitter, you an harge by using an optional USB Charging Adapter. Charging using the WirelessHD Transmitter Use the USB able to onnet the 3D Glasses to the WirelessHD Transmitter. Charging using the USB Charging Adapter Use the USB able to onnet the 3D Glasses to the optional USB Charging Adapter, and then onnet the USB Charging Adapter to an eletrial outlet. When a able is onneted to the HDMI5 port, the WirelessHD Transmitter annot harge 3D glasses. Attention Only onnet to an eletrial outlet that uses the voltage displayed on the adapter. Pairing 3D Glasses To reate 3D images, the 3D Glasses need to be paired with the projetor. Press the [Pairing] button for a while on the 3D Glasses to start pairing. 48 Useful Funtions For 3D Glasses that have not been used, pairing is performed when the 3D Glasses are turned on. You do not need to perform pairing if 3D images an already be viewed orretly. One pairing has been performed, you an view 3D images the next time the devies are turned on. You an perform pairing within a range of three meters from the projetor. While pairing is being performed, make sure you stay within a range of three meters from the projetor. Otherwise, pairing may not be performed orretly. If synhronization annot be performed within 30 seonds, pairing is automatially aneled. When pairing is anelled, 3D images annot be viewed beause pairing fails. Wearing the 3D Glasses a Turn on the 3D Glasses by sliding the [Power] swith to On. b Put on the 3D Glasses and enjoy the show. The indiator turns on for several seonds, and then turns off. When you have finished using the 3D Glasses, turn them off by sliding the [Power] swith to Off. If the 3D Glasses are not used for at least 30 seonds, they turn off automatially. To turn the 3D Glasses bak on, slide the [Power] swith to Off, and then slide it bak to On. You need more pairs of optional 3D Glasses if more than one person will be viewing the 3D image. s p.96 Range for Viewing 3D Images This projetor allows you to view 3D images within the range shown in the figure below. 49 Useful Funtions 3D images may not be displayed orretly if there is any interferene from other Bluetooth ommuniation devies. Do not use these devies at the same time. The ommuniation method for 3D Glasses uses the same frequeny (2.4 GHz) as wireless LAN (IEEE802.11b/g) or mirowave ovens. Therefore, if these devies are used at the same time, radio wave interferene may our, the image may be interrupted, or ommuniation may not be possible. If you do need to use these devies at the same time, make sure there is enough distane between them and the projetor. The 3D Glasses for this projetor use the ative shutter system based on the standards provided by the Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative. Warnings Regarding Viewing 3D Images Note the following important points when viewing 3D images. Warning Disassembling or remodeling Do not disassemble or remodel the 3D Glasses. Stop wearing the 3D Glasses if your skin feels unusual when wearing the glasses. In some very rare ases the paint or materials used in the 3D Glasses ould ause an allergi reation. Caution Viewing Time When viewing 3D images, always take periodi breaks during extended viewing. Long periods of viewing 3D images may ause eye fatigue. The amount of time and frequeny of suh breaks varies from person to person. If your eyes still feel tired or unomfortable even after taking a break from viewing, stop viewing immediately. Caution Wathing 3D Images If your eyes feel fatigued or unomfortable when viewing 3D images, stop viewing immediately. Continuing to view the 3D images ould ause you to feel unwell. When viewing 3D images be sure to always wear 3D Glasses. Do not attempt to view 3D images without 3D Glasses. Doing so ould ause you to feel unwell. Do not plae any breakable or fragile objets around you when using 3D Glasses. 3D images may ause you to move your body involuntarily, resulting in damage to nearby items or personal injury. Only wear 3D Glasses when viewing 3D images. Do not move around while wearing 3D Glasses. Your vision may appear darker than normal, ausing you to fall or injure yourself. Try to stay as level with the viewing sreen as possible when viewing 3D images. Viewing 3D images at an angle redues the 3D effet and may ause you to feel unwell due to unintended olor hanges. If using 3D Glasses in a room with fluoresent or LED lighting, you may see flashing or flikering throughout the room. If this should our, redue the lighting until the flikering goes away or turn off the lights ompletely when viewing 3D images. In some very rare ases, this flikering ould trigger seizures or fainting for some individuals. If you begin to feel unomfortable or unwell at any time when viewing 3D images, stop immediately. Stay at least three times the height of the sreen away from the sreen when viewing 3D images. The reommended viewing distane for an 80-inh sreen is at least 3 meters, and at least 3.6 meters for a 100-inh sreen. Sitting or standing any loser than the reommended viewing distane may result in eye fatigue. 49

Note that when this is set to On, projetion starts if power is restored after a blakout or other power outage and the power ord is still plugged into the projetor. Sleep Mode Off, 5min., 10min., 30min. If the set time is exeeded and no signal is input, the projetor is automatially turned off and enters standby mode. When set to Off, the projetor never enters sleep mode. When in standby mode, press the button on the remote ontrol or the button on the ontrol panel to start projetion. Illumination On, Off Set this to Off if the light from the indiators on the ontrol panel bothers you when wathing a movie in a dark room. Remedy Turn on the 3D Glasses. If the projetor is projeting a 2D image, or if an error ours on the projetor that prevents the 3D image from being projeted, you annot view 3D images even if you are wearing the 3D Glasses. Chek that the input image is 3D ompatible. Sine most TV broadasts do not ontain a 3D format signal, 3D reeption must be set manually. If 3D Display is set to Off from the Configuration menu, the projetor does not automatially hange to 3D even when a 3D image is input. Problems with WirelessHD (EH-TW9200W/EH-TW8200W only) Cannot projet WirelessHD images Chek Does the able onneting the supplied WirelessHD Transmitter meet the HDMI standards? Is WirelessHD set to Off? Are signals being reeived within the WirelessHD transmission range? Is the supplied WirelessHD Transmitter turned on? Is the WirelessHD indiator for the supplied WirelessHD Transmitter off? Is the Link indiator for the supplied WirelessHD Transmitter off? Remedy If the able does not meet the HDMI standards, operations are not possible. When WirelessHD is set to Off from the Configuration menu, projetion is not possible for WirelessHD input signals. Set WirelessHD to On, and then press the button. s Settings - WirelessHD p.70 Chek the range within whih the WirelessHD's transeiver an ommuniate, and view within that range. s p.56 Chek the power lamp on the WirelessHD Transmitter. 89 Troubleshooting Chek Has dust olleted in the WirelessHD's vent? Are the projetor and the WirelessHD Transmitter faing the orret way? Remedy The vent on the base of the projetor is the WirelessHD's vent. Communiation may not be possible if dust has olleted in the vent. Install the projetor so that dust does not ollet in the vent. Setup the projetor and the WirelessHD Transmitter so that they are faing eah other. Interferene, distortion, or interruption appear in WirelessHD Chek Are signals being reeived within the WirelessHD transmission range? Are there any obstrutions between the WirelessHD Transmitter and the projetor? Is the reeption too low? Remedy Chek the range within whih the WirelessHD's transeiver an ommuniate, and view within that range. s p.56 Beause WirelessHD ommuniates using a tight beamed eletromagneti wave, if there are any people or objets and so on obstruting the ommuniation path, this ould have an adverse affet on the image. Make sure that there are no obstales between the WirelessHD Transmitter and the projetor within the WirelessHD transmission range. s p.56 If the transmissions are not strong enough, ommuniation may be unstable. Chek Reeption as you set up the transmitter as it is sometimes possible to improve the strength of the transmission by moving the WirelessHD Transmitter or hanging its diretion. s Settings - WirelessHD - Reeption p.70 Transmission strength may differ depending on the surroundings, or they may be unstable. While heking Reeption, setup the transmitter in a loation where the number displayed remains steady. s Settings - WirelessHD - Reeption p.70 88

90 Maintenane Maintenane Cleaning the Parts You should lean the projetor if it beomes dirty or if the quality of projeted images starts to deteriorate. Warning Do not use sprays that ontain flammable gas to remove dirt and dust from the projetor's lens, air filter, and so on. The projetor may ath fire due to the high internal temperature of the lamp. Cleaning the air filter Clean the air filter if dust has aumulated on the air filter or when the following message is displayed. "The projetor is overheating. Make sure nothing is bloking the air vent, and lean or replae the air filter." Attention If dust ollets on the air filter, it an ause the internal temperature of the projetor to rise, and this an lead to problems with operation and shorten the optial engine's servie life. It is reommended that you lean the air filter at least one every three months. Clean them more often than this if using the projetor in a partiularly dusty environment. Do not rinse the air filter in water. Do not use detergents or solvents. Lightly brush the air filter to lean it. If it is brushed too strongly, dust will be ground into the air filter and annot be removed. a Press the button on the remote ontrol or the ontrol panel to turn off the power, and then disonnet the power ord. Remove the air filter. Grip the knob in the enter of the air filter and pull it out at an angle. b Remove the air filter over. Hook your finger into the tab on the air filter over, and remove it from the lens side. 89

91 Maintenane d Hold the air filter with the surfae faing down and tap it 4 or 5 times to remove the dust. f Install the air filter. Grip the air filter by the knob in the enter and insert it at an angle. Turn it over and tap the other side in the same way. g Install the air filter over. Seure the tab on the outside first, and then seure the tab on the lens side. Attention If the air filter is hit too hard, it may beome unusable due to deformities and raks. e Remove any dust remaining on the air filter by using a vauum leaner from the front side. Cleaning the main unit Clean the projetor's surfae by wiping it gently with a soft loth. If it is partiularly dirty, moisten the loth with water ontaining a small amount of neutral detergent, and then firmly wring the loth dry before using it to wipe the surfae. Attention Do not use volatile substanes suh as wax, alohol, or thinner to lean the projetor's surfae. The quality of the ase may hange or the paint may peel off. 90

92 Maintenane Cleaning the lens Use a ommerially available loth for leaning glasses to gently wipe off dirt from the lens. Manually open the lens shutter, and then wipe the lens inside. Attention Do not rub the lens with harsh materials or handle the lens too roughly as it an easily beome damaged. Cleaning the 3D Glasses Use the loth to gently wipe off dirt from the lenses of the 3D Glasses. Attention Do not rub the lenses of the glasses with harsh materials or handle the lenses too roughly as they an easily beome damaged. When maintenane is neessary, disonnet the USB Charging Adapter from the eletrial outlet, and hek that all ables have been disonneted. The 3D glasses ontain rehargeable batteries. Observe loal regulations when you dispose of them. Replaement Periods for Consumables Air filter replaement period If the message is displayed even though the air filter has been leaneds p.89 Lamp replaement period The following message is displayed when projetion starts "It is time to replae your lamp. Please ontat your Epson projetor reseller or visit to purhase." The projeted image gets darker or starts to deteriorate. The lamp replaement message is set to appear after 3900 H in order to maintain the initial brightness and quality of the projeted images. The message display time hanges depending on the usage situation, suh as the olor mode setting and so on. If you ontinue to use the lamp after the replaement period has passed, the possibility that the lamp may explode inreases. When the lamp replaement message appears, replae the lamp with a new one as soon as possible, even if it is still working. Depending on the harateristis of the lamp and the way it has been used, the lamp may beome darker or stop working before the lamp warning message appears. You should always have a spare lamp unit ready in ase it is needed. 91

94 Maintenane Replaing the lamp Warning When replaing the lamp beause it has stopped illuminating, there is a possibility that the lamp may be broken. If replaing the lamp of a projetor that has been suspended from the eiling, you should always assume that the lamp is raked, and remove the lamp over with are. When you open the lamp over, small shards of glass ould fall out. If any shards of glass get into your eyes or mouth, ontat a dotor immediately. Caution Do not touh the lamp over immediately after turning off the projetor as it is still hot. Wait until the lamp has ooled down suffiiently before removing the lamp over. Otherwise, you ould get burnt. We reommend the use of genuine EPSON option lamps. The use of non-genuine lamps may affet projetion quality and safety. Any damage or malfuntion aused by the use of non-genuine lamps may not be overed by Epson's warranty. a Press the button on the remote ontrol or the ontrol panel to turn off the power, and then disonnet the power ord. d Loosen the two lamp fixing srews. b Loosen the lamp over fixing srew. e Remove the old lamp. Grip the knob firmly and pull it straight out. Remove the lamp over. Slide the lamp over straight forward and remove it. 93

Slide the over bak into plae. g Tighten the two lamp fixing srews. i Tighten the lamp over fixing srew. Warning Do not disassemble or remodel the lamp. If a modified or disassembled lamp is installed in the projetor and used, it ould ause a fire, eletri shok, or an aident. Caution Make sure you install the lamp and lamp over seurely. If they are not installed orretly, the power does not turn on. The lamp ontains merury (Hg). Dispose of used lamps in aordane with your loal laws and regulations on disposing of fluoresent tubing. Resetting lamp hours After replaing the lamp, make sure you reset the lamp hours. The projetor reords how long the lamp is turned on and a message and indiator notify you when it is time to replae the lamp. a b Turn on the power. Press the button.
