1 Congratulations on buying the high performance LED matrix controller. Eight matrix LED panels 16x32 (8 to 1 scan) Four/Two LED panels 32x32 or 32x64 (16 to 1 scan) Full 24 bit color for 16 million colors, 85 Hertz refresh High performance Ethernet controller, no dropped packets Higher data clock rate, which provides a brighter display Built in gamma correction The LED panels are designed with a standard 16-pin connector. This means that any panel with this sixteen pin connector and an 8 to 1 scan rate will work with the controller. The 8 to 1 scan rate indicates that only one out of eight lines is on at any one time. The higher the scan rate the lower the brightness of the panel. The controller pulse width modulates each of the LED colors for the panel in addition to controlling each line. This is where the FPGA has an advantage over an embedded processor. The controller always drives 256 pixels on each line output regardless of the number of panels present. TEST PUSHBUTTON: The small button located on the FPGA board outputs a test pattern while it is pressed. When released the display is cleared. Normally, the display powers up with all of the LED off. 1

2 The configuration of the outputs is accomplished through jumpers. Output type configuration type and color correction. Output header used for the matrix adapter Base multi-cast universe for reception of data. JUMPER SETTINGS: The UNIV ADDR header is used to select the base universe for the board. The board always takes up 32 universes of data. The universe header has five pins and the jumpers inserted selects a zero for the bit position. The full base address for the jumper selections are shown below for revisions A and B. Jumper off selects a 1, and jumper on selects at 0. With all of the jumper installed this selects a base universe of 32. 2

Panel #1 is the first panel driven by the controller. 3

4 To configure your panels perform the following: Panel Layouts a) Choose the scan rate for your panels 8to1 or 16to1. b) Choose the base address for the controller (default with all jumpers in is 32) c) Setup the panel mapping for the number of panels. d) Setup the nutcracker model for the number of panels. Examples of the panel mapping and models follow. 4

13 For all other configurations, the panels are custom models. Use the model width and height to select the size of your model. Copy and paste the model from Excel to position A1 in the custom model. This is using the clipboard picture, just to the left of the HELP button. If you do not own a copy of Excel, upload the file to Google Drive. From there you will be able to display and copy the model matching your layout. 13
