6 Status on switch-over from analog to digital TV: USA Shutdown of analog transmissions on 12 June 2009 from high-power stations Low-power stations still broadcasting in analog in several areas Japan Planning to perform shutdown on 24 July 2011 Europe Switch-off complete in several countries (Belgium, Germany, Finland, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, and others) Between 2010 and 2011 the following countries are scheduled for analog shutdown: France, Greece, Bulgaria, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, and others England: Switch-over began on 17 October 2007 and is following a schedule implemented by region. London is scheduled to end analog broadcasting in late 2012

14 ITU s World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC12, January/February, 2012): Agenda Description Points of Attention 1.2 Enchancing the international regulatory framework Sharing between the mobile service and other services in the band MHz in Regions 1/3. Current method protects TV channels against interference from mobile services. Risk of sharing Proposes sharing starting at channel 67 Verify use in each country Regulatory measures and their relevance, in order to enable the introduction of software-defined radio and cognitive radio systems(white Spaces) Effect of emissions from short-range devices. Attention to interference from cognitive radios and white-space devices on television channels in operation.

15 Broadcast TV has outstanding social value, especially in Latin America. The spectrum is a key resource for the continuity of broadcast television, with demand doubled during the analog-to-digital transition. Mobile broadband services, especially those that allow video streaming, will demand spectrum. Vendors of new technologies are seeking world markets for their products and are pressuring authorities to provide uniform frequency bands around the world in order to popularize their products. Standardization in the ITU is the result of influence/decision of the various administrations it s only fitting for us to work together in defense of our interests. Each Administration should consider its needs before giving up the broadcasting spectrum, taking into account the importance of broadcast TV in the respective country.
