For example, do not place it on a bed, sofa, rug or any similar surface. b) Install the terminal away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers or on a book shelf, unless adequate ventilation is provided. c) Place the terminal in a stable location able to support its weight. 2. Cleaning and accessories Unplug the device before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a dry cloth instead. Do not use the terminal near water or in a very humid environment. Only use accessories specified by the manufacturer. 3. Contact with objects or liquids Never insert objects of any kind through the terminal openings, as they may cause a fire or an electric shock. Avoid spreading any kind of liquid on the terminal. 4. Power supply This device must be plugged into a power supply indicated on the adapter. In case you doubt the type of power supply to your home, contact your power company. Avoid overloading outlets, extension cords or power bars. This equipment has a polarized alternating current line plug (with one blade wider than the other). The plug will fit into a power outlet only one way, which is a safety feature. Such safety measure as the polarized plug should be fully observed. 6. Maintenance Do not attempt any repair or maintenance or you could be exposed to dangerous voltages and other hazards. Refer all servicing to one of our qualified technicians. 7. Damages requiring repair by a technician a) Plug or power cord is damaged. b) Apparatus has been exposed to water or other liquids. c) Apparatus has been dropped, housing has been damaged or objects have fallen on the apparatus. d) Obvious change in terminal performance, indicating a need for maintenance. If the terminal stops functioning normally according to the user guide, follow instructions described in the guide only. Any other adjustments of the other setting features may cause damages requiring considerable repair time by a technician to bring the apparatus back to normal. Should you have a problem which is not listed here, please contact our technical support. 5. Electrical cords safety Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles and the point where they exit from the apparatus. 2 DCX user guide

31 Section 2 - Digital cable access Recordings (DCX3400/3510) With your PVR, you can record your favourite shows, rewind or pause live TV. Live TV recording Thanks to its 2 tuners the terminal allows you to simultaneously record live content from 2 channels. These tuners automatically store up 2 hours of standard definition content and half an hour of high definition. This allows you to rewind and pause TV from the moment you tuned in. When you switch channels, information stored from the preceding channel is lost. Status bar Located on the bottom of the screen, the status allows control of content stored in the terminal buffer memory. When time bar is entirely green, 2 hours of SD content is stored (30 minutes of HD content). Time bar fills up further as tuner is set on the same channel. For example, if terminal is set for 30 minutes on the same channel, you can rewind up to 30 minutes on the time bar, that is, from the time the tuner was set on this channel. You can switch between both tuners with the SWAP button of the remote control. When pausing the first tuner and swapping to the other one, the first tuner will continue storing information. If different shows have been stored, the terminal will assign them each a different colour. The ongoing show is always the one with the green time bar. You can save stored content by pressing REC and recording it on your terminal. An ongoing show that is fully stored on the time bar will be recorded in full. An ongoing show that isn t stored from the beginning will not be recorded in full. Live or recorded TV viewing control is similar as with DVD player. The PAUSE button puts viewing on hold; PLAY button resumes viewing, while the STOP button ceases viewing altogether. You may also fast forward or rewind recordings with FFWD and REW (press up to 4 times to increase speed). Combine FFWD and REW buttons with PAUSE for slower motion. 30 DCX user guide

This option is not functional if the series has a single general description for every episodes. Save: This option manages how many episodes of a single series will be stored at once on the hard drive. For example, setting it on 3 means the terminal will automatically erase the oldest episode when there are more than 3. This prevents unnecessary overload of the hard drive. When recording all episodes, hard drive stores episodes without deleting any of them. Save until: This option protects recordings from being unintentionally deleted. When set on Space is needed, terminal will erase an episode of this series as the hard drives reaches 80% of its capacity to free disk space. When set on I delete, terminal will not delete episodes from this series when hard drive reaches 80% of its capacity. Record programs on: This option allows you to record episodes only on the channel it was set up to or on any channel the series might be aired. Start/Stop recording: Sets recording start/stop at the exact time or a few minutes before and after scheduled time. WARNING: Recordings starting minutes before scheduled broadcast must not conflict with other recordings set on the tuner. Time frame recording This option allows recording according to channel and time frame criteria, regardless of specific programs. This proceeding allows to record up to 24 hours at a time of a specific time frame. 1. Press MENU on the remote; 2. Select DVR, then Set a recording; 3. Select the start, and end times and day and press Continue; 4. Select a channel from the channel list; 5. Press Record, and then Confirm or View recording settings for additional options. 41 Section 3 - Frequently asked Questions Frequently asked Questions Q. Nothing happens when I press the MENU button, but I can still change channels (go to the preceding or next one). A. If your terminal has just been installed, it takes between 15 to 30 minutes for the guide to download. If nothing happens after this delay, unplug the terminal and plug it back in. Wait for another 15 to 30 minutes. If the interactive menu screen still does not appear, contact our technical support. Q. I cannot see the outer borders on my television screen. A. Select the Adjustments to screen position option in the setup menu. Push direction buttons until the image is well centered. Q. The guide has locked up. Neither the remote, nor the terminal buttons work. A. Try to unplug the terminal and then plug it back in. This will reset the terminal. It will take some time for the information to appear. If there is still a problem, contact our technical support. Q. There are no listings in the guide, or the words To be announced appear on the screen. A. This can happen if there has been a power failure or if the terminal was unplugged. Make sure all equipment is properly plugged in and running. Wait minutes for the channels and program data to load. Q. A message on my screen says This feature is currently being restored. A. This will happen when you try to access a feature not yet operational or when the terminal has not received all the necessary data. This most commonly happens following a power loss. If there is still a problem after 20 minutes, contact our technical support. Q. A message on my screen says This channel should be available shortly. A. This screen will appear when you tune to a channel that is currently not available. If the channel is not available after minutes, contact our technical support. Q. What do I do if I am stuck in a screen or menu I and want to get out? A. You can press the EXIT button on the remote control at all times to instantly return to watching TV. You can also press the LAST button to back up one screen at a time. Q. The displayed information or pricing is incorrect. A. Although all data is checked thoroughly before it is sent to your home, channels do sometimes change their schedule at the last minute without any notification. Q. I have no video, a snowy picture, or I cannot tune any digital channels. A. Make sure that all cable connections are secure and that your TV set is tuned to the right channel (3 or 4). Also, make sure you are actually controlling the terminal (press CBL on the remote). Q. Remote does not respond when I press a button. A. Several factors can explain this problem. Try this procedure: 1. Press the CABLE button on the remote to make sure you are in cable mode. Try your remote control again. If necessary, go to the next step. 2. If the remote control still does not operate adequately, push the CHANNEL button on the terminal front panel. If channels change, it is only a remote control problem. The batteries or the remote control itself may need to be replaced. 40 DCX user guide

42 Section 3 - Frequently asked Questions Control locks Q. In case of a power outage, do I need to reset my parental control and purchase PINs, favourite listings and reminders? A. No. These features will not be lost if the terminal loses power. Q. What if I forget my parental controls/purchase PINs? A. Your must call our technical support to have these PINs reset. All of the PINs will be cleared. Once reset, you will need to enter new ones. Pay-per-view Q. What if I missed a pay-per-view movie or event I ordered? A. You will not be billed for ordered PPV on channels that haven t been tuned. Q. A program appears in the listings with a dollar sign next to the title. A. The dollar sign indicates you have ordered this pay-per-view, and will be able to watch it when the movie or event is scheduled to start. Q. Why can t I purchase this pay-per-view program? A. Several reasons could keep you from ordering pay-per-view: 1. You may have inadvertently made too many orders, and may have to cancel one before making another order. 2. You may have reached your credit limit. PVR and digital services Q. A black screen appears while watching a recorded event. A. Unplug the terminal power supply cable and plug it back in after 30 seconds. If things are not back to normal after 5 minutes, contact our technical support. Q. DVR deactivated appears when trying to get to recorded programs. A. Unplug your terminal and wait 30 seconds to plug it back in. Wait minutes. If the problem persists, contact our technical support. Q. I cannot record a program or access my recordings, and a screen appears that says Unable to process request. A. Turn off the terminal and turn it back on. If the problem persists, contact our technical support. Q. The terminal says the hard drive is full but I have only a few programs recorded. A. Delete a program. The terminal should then display the real content of your hard drive. If the problem persists, contact our technical support. Q. My terminal makes a constant humming sound. A. Most recording terminals are equipped with a fan, to cool the hard drive down. It is thus normal that the fan produces a light humming sound. However, if your terminal is placed in a poorly ventilated or hot location, the fan will be noisier. Q. Does the terminal keep on recording when it is turned off? Must I leave it on so it can record? A. You can turn your terminal off. It will turn itself on to record. Q. How many hours of programming can I store on my PVR? What is the hard drive capacity? A. The recording capacity depends on the video format that is being recorded. The hard drive capacity can be 320 GB or 500 GB, depending on model. DCX user guide 41

43 Section 3 - Frequently asked Questions Q. How many tuners does my PVR have? A. Most PVRs have two tuners. This feature allows you to record two channels at the same time while watching a third program from your PVR recordings library. Q. Can I record or watch two programs at the same time? A. Yes, you can use the SWAP button on your remote to change from one tuner to the other. Q. Can the PVR play back a high definition recording while another HD program is being recorded? A. Yes. In fact, you can record two programs at once while watching a previously recorded program from the hard drive for both HD and regular programming. Q. Are there separate buttons for each tuner? How do I record two programs at the same time? A. The interactive guide can record two different programs listed with overlapping times by pressing the Record button, by manually scheduling the recordings, or by setting future recordings from a program information screen. Q. How many recordings can I schedule in the future? A. There is no limit to the number of recordings you can schedule as long as you do not schedule more than two programs to record at the same time and have available recording space. Q. If a program exceeds planned broadcasting hours (for instance, a sports event requiring overtime play), how can I make sure it will be recorded entirely? A. Modify the recording options for this program. You can adjust recording start and end time to make sure that everything will be recorded. Q. Can I watch a program I am recording before the recording is completed? A. Yes. You can either watch it live as it is being recorded or rewind the program you are currently recording and watch it from the beginning while the recording continues. Q. Can I make a VHS or DVD of a recorded program? A. You can copy a recorded program on VHS or DVD by playing a recording from the PVR while simultaneously recording on your VCR or DVD. Q. Can I set up my PVR to record every episode of a specific program title? A. Yes. Your PVR lets you record multiple episodes of a program according to your preferences by setting up a series recording. Select the type of episode to record, such as a first-run only or all episodes. Specify how many recordings to save and how long to save the recording until you erase it or until space is needed. To access advanced series setup features like add minutes to the start and end times and specify which channels to record, select the recording options icon to review all options. GUIDE TIP: Use Title search to find all air times for a particular title. You can then set up individual recordings for any or all episodes, no matter what time they re on. Q. Can I increase the rewind and fast forward speed? A. Yes. Your PVR will control rewind and fast forward at 4 speeds each. Just press REW or FF up to four times. The on-screen indicator will show at what speed you are controlling playback. Q. Can I program the PVR to skip ads during the recording? A. No. However, you can fast forward ads while watching a recorded program. Q. Can I bookmark a recorded show where I previously left it? A. To resume viewing a program, select Play from the action icons or Restart from the beginning. 42 DCX user guide
