7 IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION This DStv HD PVR 2 P Decder meets Internatinal Safety Standards. Please read the fllwing recmmended safety precautins carefully. MAINS SUPPLY This HD PVR perates at 12 V DC and is cnnected t the mains supply using the supplied pwer supply, rated V AC, 47-63Hz. Cnnect the pwer supply unit t the HD PVR and the pwer cable t the pwer supply unit, befre cnnecting the ther end f the pwer cable t the mains wall scket. Discnnect the pwer supply unit frm the mains befre cnnecting r discnnecting any ther cables t the HD PVR's back panel. LIQUIDS & SPILLAGE Keep liquids away frm the decder and d nt put anything n tp f it which may spill (example : lit candles, plants r cntainers f liquid). D nt use the decder in extreme temperature and humid cnditins. CLEANING Befre cleaning the decder, first discnnect the decder frm the mains. Use a dry clth t clean the exterir. VENTILATION D nt blck the ventilatin hles and ensure that free airflw is maintained arund the decder. It is essential t keep the HD PVR cl t prlng the life f the hard disk. The HD PVR is designed t wrk with a dual LNB installatin (minimum) r a ne wire SatCR installatin. If yur TV is marketed as HD Ready and des nt wrk with the HD PVR, we suggest yu check the cmpnents and / r cntact the manufacturer f the TV fr assistance. HD quality cntent is nly available via HDMI. The HDMI input n the HD TV must be HDCP cmpliant. 11 SET-UP 3 : HD PVR AND 1 STANDARD DEFINITION TV ➊ ➋ ➌ Cnnect the tw satellite feeds t the tw LNB inputs (#1) n the HD PVR. If using a SatCR LNB feed, cnnect t LNB input 1. Optin A : AV Cnnectrs Cnnect the Audi / Vide cable t the vide (#5) and audi (#4) utputs n the HD PVR and then t the audi and vide inputs n the TV. Optin B : RF Cnnect the cable frm the terrestrial antenna t the female F-type adaptr and cnnect the female F-type adaptr t the aerial IN cnnectr (#9 marked RF IN) n the HD PVR. Cnnect a RF cable t the male F-type adaptr and cnnect the male F-type adaptr t the aerial OUT cnnectr (#9 marked RF OUT) n the HD PVR. Then cnnect the ther end f the RF cable t the aerial IN cnnectr n the TV. (Yu may need an adaptr). ➍ Ensure that all cnnectins are firm befre yu cnnect the external pwer supply (#10). 13 TV, ALT, TV GUIDE, LANGUAGE AND MUTE BUTTONS The five buttns at the tp f the remte cntrl each have a secndary functin (smetimes referred t as the shifted mde). If yu have nt first pressed SHIFT, these buttns d the fllwing : TV : always takes yu t Live TV. If yu are viewing frm the buffer, pressing TV takes yu t Live TV n the current channel. If yu are viewing in playback, pressing TV stps playback and takes yu t Live TV n the current channel. ALT : ges t the last viewed channel. TV GUIDE : ges t the TV Guide. LANGUAGE : displays the Language / Sundtrack pp-up. MUTE : switches the audi n r ff (depends n the current audi status). T activate the secndary functinality, press SHIFT fllwed by the required buttn. After pressing SHIFT, the SHIFT buttn will flash, cnfirming the mde f the remte cntrl. It is nt necessary t hld bth buttns dwn at the same time. SHIFT TV : ges t the Audi Buquet. SHIFT ALT : displays the Subtitles / Teletext pp-up (Nte : Subtitles / Teletext are nt currently available n the HD PVR). SHIFT TV GUIDE : currently disabled. SHIFT LANGUAGE : ges t the Parental Cntrl Menu (Nte : a valid PG PIN cde is required t enter the Parental Cntrl Menu). SHIFT MUTE : currently disabled. THE DIAL The dial shuld be set t TV1 fr use with the HD PVR. The windw in the dial (where yu see TV1) lights up when any buttn is pressed, cnfirming that the remte cntrl is active and that the cmmand has been transmitted t the decder. 14 COLOUR BUTTONS The clur buttns n the remte cntrl have different functins at different times based n the current activity f the HD PVR. When using the Decder Menu r the TV Guide, please refer t the nscreen instructins (at the bttm f the screen) that clearly indicate functinality fr each clur buttn. When viewing TV, the clur buttns d the fllwing : Press RED t g t the Playlist (see page 35). Press BLUE t insert a Bkmark (see page 37). Press WHITE t view in slw mtin (see page 37). Press YELLOW t display the Status Bar (see page 24). The GREEN buttn is currently disabled in viewing mde. ACTION BUTTONS BUTTON WHILE VIEWING LIVE TV WHILE VIEWING A RECORDING (PLAYBACK) STOP REWIND See page 39 Buttn disabled if there is n recrding in prgress. 18 VIEWING MODES The HD PVR has tw viewing mdes - All Channels r Favurite Channels. In All Channels mde, ALL available channels are displayed, including thse t which yu are nt subscribed. In Favurite Channels mde, nly the channels yu selected as yur Favurite Channels are available when yu banner brwse r surf thrugh the channels, s n mre tripping ver unwanted channels. (Fr mre n hw t set up yur Favurite Channels, see page 21.) The clur f the i-plate indicates the viewing mde. A blue header indicates that yu are in ALL CHANNELS. A purple header indicates that yu are in FAVOURITE CHANNELS. When viewing Live TV, yu can switch viewing mde by pressing TV and selecting the ther mde frm the pp-up which displays. THE CHANNEL GRIDS There are tw channel grids n the HD PVR - the All Channels Grid and the Favurite Channels Grid (ne fr each viewing mde). The channel grid is a quick way t tune between channels r t quickly access prgramming inf fr anther channel. Bth channel grids are available frm playback (ie. when viewing a recrding). When viewing TV, press the LEFT, RIGHT r DOWN arrw t display the All Channels Grid. When viewing TV, press the UP arrw t display the Favurite Channels Grid. Use the arrws t mve the highlight and press OK t tune t the selected channel, r press i t view extended inf. The channel grid used t tune between channels determines which viewing mde yu g t. 19 REMINDERS There are tw types f reminders - banner and auttune, and these are used t either remind yu f a prgramme r t autmatically tune the decder t a channel at a specific time. A banner reminder will display a pp-up at the start f the prgramme fr which the reminder is set. Yu may ignre the reminder r chse t tune t the selected prgramme by pressing OK. An auttune reminder can tune the decder t anther channel, but first displays a pp-up at the start f the prgramme fr which the reminder is set. Yu may cancel the reminder r tune t the selected prgramme. If yu d nthing, the decder will autmatically tune t the selected channel. Hw t Set a Reminder T set a banner reminder, select the required prgramme (either n the i-plate r TV Guide) and press OK. A appears next t the prgramme, cnfirming that a banner reminder has been set. T change the reminder frm a banner t an auttune, press OK again. The icn changes t a cnfirming that an auttune banner has been set. All scheduled reminders are listed n the Reminders screen. Hw t Delete a Reminder Optin 1 : Highlight the prgramme which has the auttune reminder set fr it and press OK. Optin 2 : Yu can als delete reminders by ging t the Reminders screen. The Reminders Screen This screen lists all current reminders that have been set. T g t the Reminders screen, press RED t g t the Playlist, then press the RIGHT arrw twice. 20 INTERACTIVE SERVICES & DSTV TOUCH T access available interactive services, press OK t display the DStv tuch menu. Interactive Services are nly available when viewing Live TV, ie. yu cannt access DStv tuch when viewing frm the buffer r in Playback. Using Interactive Services clears the buffer. PARENTAL CONTROL The HD PVR has a Parental Cntrl feature t cntrl viewing in yur hme. Access t this feature is cntrlled by the PG PIN cde. Fr full details n this feature, including hw t set Parental Cntrl and change the PG PIN Cde, see page 44. LANGUAGE SELECTION Sme prgrammes have multiple language r sundtrack ptins available. Fr a list f available ptins n the prgramme that yu are viewing, press LANGUAGE. Yu can set the default in the Decder Menu (see page 47). SUBTITLES / TELETEXT Subtitles and Teletext are nt currently supprted n the HD PVR. DSTV AUDIO CHANNELS DStv has a great selectin f audi channels available. T g t audi channels : Press SHIFT TV, r Press TV GUIDE and select the required audi channel frm the All Channels list. T return t TV channels, press SHIFT TV again. 21 THE TV GUIDE Yu can g t the TV Guide by pressing TV GUIDE at any time. The TV Guide has three sectins - Favurite Channels, All Channels and Playlist. While using the TV Guide, the channel r recrding yu were viewing when yu pressed TV GUIDE is displayed in the tp right crner. FAVOURITE CHANNELS When first selecting Favurite Channels, yu will need t select channels as yur Favurites. This will : Create a persnalised TV Guide, listing the infrmatin fr just these channels. Create a persnalised "viewing mde", which includes nly these channels. This means that when "surfing" thrugh the channels, yu n lnger see channels that are nt available t yu r may nt be f interest t yu. See page 18. Create a Favurite Channels Grid - listing nly the channels yu selected, making it easier t tune between channels. See page 18. Once yu have selected yur Favurite Channels, a persnalised TV Guide is displayed. Yu can update yur selectin f Favurite Channels at any time. Press TV Guide. Select Favurite Channels. Press WHITE. 23 PVR BASICS IMPORTANT PVR functinality (including Pause Live TV, scheduling and viewing recrdings) requires a PVR subscriptin. THE BUFFER The buffer is the part f the hard disk that temprarily recrds Live TV and allws yu t pause r rewind Live TV. On the HD PVR, the buffer always stres the last 120 minutes r up t the last time yu changed channels (if within the last 120 minutes). The buffer is cleared : When yu change channels. When the decder is reset. When the decder is rescanned. When the decder is in standby. When yu use an Interactive Service. WHAT IS LIVE TV? See page 26. AUTOMATIC STANDBY (ALSO KNOWN AS SLEEP MODE) Yu have the ptin t disable the hard drive during perids when yu are nt using the PVR. When the HD PVR is in autmatic standby, the hard disk ges t sleep. T change the settings fr Autmatic Standby, see page 48. Recrdings are nt impacted by standby and still take place if the decder is in autmatic standby. Frequency Start Date Start Time End Time Lck / Unlck Hw ften shuld this recrding be scheduled? The default is Once. Optins are nce, daily, weekly r n weekdays. On which date shuld this recrding start? The default is tday s date. Enter the start time using the number keys n the remte cntrl. The default is the current time. Nte : the time must be entered in the 24 hur frmat, 3pm = 15:00. Enter the end time using the number keys n the remte cntrl. The default is the current time + 1 hur. The i-plate will be aqua blue. This indicates yu are viewing a recrding. What else can I d? Yu can pause, fast frward r rewind the prgramme. Yu can als view in slw mtin (see pages 37-39). Yu can set a bkmark (see page 37). Yu can press STOP t stp playback and return t the Playlist. What else culd happen? If the recrding has been partially viewed, a pp-up displays with ptins t resume frm where yu left ff r t start frm the beginning. If the recrding is PG blcked, yu first need t enter the crrect PG PIN cde. Why is there ften mre than ne prgramme listed n the Playback i-plate, when I nly recrded ne prgramme? The prgramme yu recrded is usually secnd n the list. The PVR inserts a safety net at the beginning and end f each scheduled recrding t ensure as much as pssible that variances in actual bradcast times d nt impact recrdings. 37 OTHER FEATURES EXTENDING A RECORDING IN PROGRESS Yu can extend the recrding time f a recrding in prgress. Select the prgramme being recrded in the i-plate, TV Guide, Playlist r Scheduled Recrdings screen. Press i (t display the extended infrmatin), then press BLUE t extend the recrding. Yu can select t extend the recrding time by up t 60 minutes. If the recrding extensin cannt be accmmdated due t cnflict with ther existing scheduled recrdings, an errr message will be displayed. STOPPING A RECORDING IN PROGRESS Yu can stp any recrding in prgress. Press STOP. An nscreen banner is displayed. Press OK t stp the recrding. The recrding will be listed in the Playlist with an alert icn (indicating a partial recrding). BOOKMARKS A bkmark marks a selected place in a recrded prgramme and allws yu t easily find yur favurite mments and watch them again. Example : While viewing a recrding f yur favurite rugby match, yu culd set a bkmark fr each try f the match and later, watch them all again, ne after anther. A blue triangle in the Status Bar indicates a user bkmark, ie. bkmarks set by the viewer. A grey triangle in the Status Bar indicates a system bkmark (prgramme changes). Setting and using bkmarks When viewing a recrding, press BLUE t set a bkmark. The Status Bar is displayed and a BLUE triangle inserted t indicate the bkmark. T view bkmarks, press YELLOW t display the Status Bar. Then use the LEFT and RIGHT arrws t jump t the bkmark(s). Deleting bkmarks T view bkmarks, press YELLOW t display the Status Bar. Then use the LEFT r RIGHT arrws t jump t the bkmark yu want t delete and press BLUE. The BLUE triangle which indicated the bkmark is deleted. Nte : System bkmarks cannt be deleted SLOW MOTION Yu are able t view prgrammes in slw mtin. Press WHITE t view the actin in slw mtin. Press WHITE again t view at an even slwer pace. 38 THE SAFETY NET When yu schedule a recrding, the HD PVR autmatically adds 3 minutes t the beginning and 10 minutes t the end f the recrding (s lng as the safety net des nt clash with ther existing recrdings). T change the default settings fr the safety net, see page 48. The new settings will nly take effect n new scheduled recrdings, ie. existing scheduled recrdings retain their riginal safety net settings. Nte : Safety Nets are nt applied t Time Based Recrdings. The PVR will eliminate the safety net t avid cnflict. Example : yu set a recrding frm 10:00-11:00 (09:57-11:10 with default safety net). If yu want t schedule a recrding fr 11:00 12:00, the PVR drps the safety net n the 10:00 recrding t ensure that this new recrding can be accmmdated. FAST FORWARDING There are three ways t fast frward : ➊ Using the Play/Pause buttn (Methd 1) Mve and hld the Play/Pause buttn t the right and when yu reach the crrect pint, release the Play/Pause buttn. ➋ Using the Play/Pause buttn (Methd 2) Press the Play/Pause buttn t pause the prgramme. Nw nudge the Play/Pause buttn nce t the right. The nscreen icn indicates the fast frward speed with tw arrws in the PVR Play icn. 48 ➍ SAFETY NET SETTINGS When yu schedule a recrding, the HD PVR autmatically adds 3 minutes t the beginning and 10 minutes t the end f the recrding (s lng as the safety net desn t clash with ther existing recrdings). Press WHITE t edit the ptins Press OK t cnfirm selectin The new settings will nly take effect n new scheduled recrdings, ie. existing scheduled recrdings retain their riginal safety net settings. The PVR will eliminate the safety net t avid cnflict. Example : yu set a recrding frm 10:00-11:00 (09:57-11:10 with default safety net). If yu want t schedule a recrding fr 11:00 12:00, the PVR drps the safety net n the 10:00 recrding t ensure that this new recrding can be accmmdated. ➎ DISPLAY TIMEOUT This ptin allws yu t custmise the display perid fr the i-plate and nscreen PVR icns. Yu can set it fr anywhere between 1 and 20 secnds. ➏ TRANSPARENCY This ptin allws yu t chse between a transparent and paque (slid) display f the i-plate and Channel Grid. ➐ AUTOMATIC STANDBY T extend the lifespan f the HD PVR, yu have the ptin t disable the hard disk during perids when the decder is nt in use. When the HD PVR is in standby, the hard disk ges t sleep. Recrdings scheduled fr when the HD PVR is in standby are nt impacted and will take place. Lcal Time = Lcal Time 1 TV Type Optins : PAL I, PAL BG. 2 High Definitin Output (HDMI) Optins : Original, Native, 576i (PAL), 576p, 720p, 1080i. If yu select Original, the HD PVR will autmatically select the reslutin f the display t match the reslutin f the bradcast. S, if the bradcast is in 576i and the TV supprts 576i, the HD PVR will use 576i (therwise it will use the default reslutin). If the bradcast is 720p and the TV supprts 720p, the PVR will use 720p (therwise it will use the default reslutin). If yu select Native, the TV sends the HD PVR a list f supprted reslutins and the HD PVR will use the best reslutin (respective t TV) fr all bradcasts. NOTE : In the case where the TV des nt indicate its native reslutin, the PVR will use the highest supprted reslutin. Fr all ther settings : The HD PVR will send all bradcasts in this fixed reslutin t the TV, and this reslutin nly. 3 TV Link The TV Link is disabled unless the XtraView Cmmunicatin Prt and Remte Mde have been selected in the XtraView Set-up Screen. 4 UHF Tuning 5 Lip-sync Delay Use the number buttns n the remte cntrl t enter a value. 6 Audi Output Optins : Variable, Fixed. Audi / vide sync prblems are mainly caused when the audi ges t a hme theatre system and the vide ges directly t the TV. This is because the time it takes the TV t prcess the vide, and the time it takes the hme theatre t prcess the audi, may differ. The lip-sync issue can be crrected by adjusting the lip-sync setting. Variable audi utput allws yu t adjust the vlume while viewing whereas fixed nly allws the vlume t be muted. Fixed vlume is recmmended if cntent is being recrded t an external device such as a vide r DVD, as it assures that the recrded vlume is cnsistent. 7 Lcal Time If the time displayed n the frnt panel f the HD PVR r n the i-plate des nt crrespnd with the actual time, change this setting t the lcal time.
