4 HARDWARE CONFIGURATIONS MULTI-NODE (SPINE) CONFIGURATIONS This configuration allows a single power supply to power up to 6 Thermo-Simple 1 and/or 2. This is due to different load requirements. 5 Junction Box (For Single Temperature Case) There are three RJ45 receptacles. The main power receptacles are the 2 on left and right hand side. The third receptacle on the bottom provides regulated power output for Thermo-Simple thermometers. NOTE ON JUNCTION BOX CONNECTIONS: DO NOT connect Thermo-Simple Power harness, H2 harness, into any of the 2 main power receptacles. DO NOT connect Power Supply or Spine cable, into the third output receptacles. For proper connection please refer to the Multi-Node (Spine) Configuration diagram. 6 Junction Box (For Dual Temperature Case) For dual temperature case, the set-point can be automatically switched between 5.0 F and 40.0 F depending on the Dual Temperature switch on the case. Therefore when the dual temperature case is switch between Frozen Food Case to Fresh Food Case, the display unit will automatically change its set-point to match the case temperature setting. This is for use only with 120v Low Temp solenoid applications. For dry contact applications see Page 8 For use only with 120 VAC Low Temperature Solenoid Application Voltage input from low temperature solenoid goes here. There is no polarity ( Hot and Neutral at 120Vac) Junction Box (Analog Output) For wired analog output application, the display unit temperature is expressed in voltage. The voltage can be measured from t he DAC OUT connector. It can be wired to any analog input boards in EMS Controller. EMS controller requires 0-5 VDC Analog Input Board and setting prior to connecting wires from ST-3 to analog input point. The dual temperature cable wire is orange and white orange. T here s no polarity. The wires connect to the switch in series. 9 With Dual-Temp power harness the set-point can be automatically switched between 5.0 F (Low Temperature) and 40.0 F (Medium Temperature) depending on the Dual Temperature switch position on the case. When the switch is open, the set-point becomes F (Medium Temperature). When the switch is close, the set-point becomes +5.0 F (Low Temperature). When the case switches from F (Medium Temperature) to +5.0 F (Low Temperature) there will be a 30 minute delay to allow time for the case to cool down. However, when the case switches from +5.0 F (Low Temperature) to F (Medium Temperature) there will be no delay. When the dual temperature case is switch between Frozen Food Case to Fresh Food Case, the Thermo-Simple will change between +40 and +5 settings immediately. HARDWARE INSTALLATION Thermo-Simple 1 Version 2 consists of 2 main components. The first part, installed first in a case, is the Mounting Plate. The second part, attached to the Mounting Plate, is the Display Unit. The spring contact provides power and temperature reading to the Display unit. In order for the spring contact to work properly, it is imperative to use #6 Pan Head screws on the Mounting Plate and #4 Undercut Countersunk with length no longer than 3/16 inch. 10 MOUNTING PLATE SCREW CLEARANCES Spring Contact Connection between Mounting Plate and Device s Main Boards It is critical that #6 or #8 Low Profile Pan Head screws are used to ensure proper device operation. DISPLAY SCREW CLEARANCES Main Board and Mounting Plate Clearances This clearance CANNOT be compromised for normal operation Clearance between #6 and #4 x screws MUST be maintained to ensure secured engagement between the Mounting Plate and the Device. Using longer and/or unspecified head type on #4 screws can compromise device operations It is critical that #4 x 3/16 Flathead Undercut Countersunk screws are used to ensure proper engagement between the Mounting Plate spring connector and the Device. It also displays incoming and outgoing communication between the device and the wireless network a wireless system. Scale/Cancel/Escape Switch Show Last Alarm (in Hours) Previous/Down Switch To trigger the magnetic switch on the TS.1 device, a Refrigeration Innovation Magnet Tool is needed. In absence of the Magnet Tool, the magnetic switch on the TS.1 device can be triggered by any strong magnet (Neodymium rare-earth type). 12 FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS Unlocking Display After 4.5 minutes after being powered on. The display unit will automatically lock itself to prevent unintended changes. To unlock and change settings: 1. Trigger F/X switch. 2. Using Up/Down arrow turns the first digit to 5. Then set it by triggering the F/X switch 3. Repeat step 2 until all three digits are set to 567. The display unit will ask you to confirm this unlocking procedure. 4. Trigger F/X switch to confirm unlocking procedure. 5. The unit is now unlocked. You can now access Function #1 to #19 using the Up/Down switch. DISPLAY UNIT SETTINGS These functions list checks and changes the display unit internal settings. Function #1: Default Temperature Scale Changing default temperature scale. To change default temperature scale, unlock the display unit first, and then follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X switch. The display unit will ask for what Function to select. 2. Select #1 using Up/Down switch. 3. Then trigger F/X switch again to confirm function selection. The display unit will show the current default temperature scale. 4. Select default temperature scale using Up/Down arrow 5. Trigger F/X switch to confirm your selection. 13 Function #2: Enable/Disable Defrost Indicator When a refrigeration unit goes out of temperature, there may be nothing wrong at all. It is part of the refrigeration unit cycle to defrost. During this cycle by default the display unit will indicate def. If defrost indicator is disabled, the display unit will indicate temperature reading. Trigger the F/C switch to see temperature reading during this cycle. To enable/disable defrost indicator, unlock the display unit first, and then follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X switch. The display unit will ask for what Function to select. 2. Select #2 using Up/Down switch 3. Then trigger F/X switch again to confirm function selection. The display unit will show the current Defrost indicator. +def means that the defrost indicator is on. -def means that the defrost indicator is off. 4. Turn off (or on) defrost indicator using Up/Down switch. 5. Trigger F/X switch to confirm your selection. Defrost indicator is now off. Function #3: Enable/Disable Freeze Alarm In some refrigeration case containing dairy, fresh produce, and other similar ingredients, it is necessary to keep the ingredients fresh and cool but not frozen. For these cases enabling freeze alarm on the display unit may be appropriate. By default, freeze alarm is disabled. If enabled, display unit will start flashing blue if the temperature drops below 33.5 F To enable/disable freeze alarm, unlock the display unit first, and then follow these steps: 1. 14 3. Then trigger F/X switch again to confirm function selection. The display unit will show the current Freeze alarm setting -Fr means that the freeze alarm is off +Fr means that the freeze alarm is on 4. Turn on (or off) freeze alarm using Up/Down switch. 5. Trigger F/X switch to confirm your selection. Freeze alarm is now enabled. Function #4: Color Scheme There are 3 color schemes available. 1. Blue Green Amber (BGA): Amber Alarm Solid Blue Frozen Status Solid Green Fresh Status Flashing Amber (after defrost / first 60 / first 90 minutes) Out of Temp. Alarm 2. Green Amber Red (GAR): Amber and Red Alarm Solid Green Fresh/Frozen Status Flashing Yellow Short duration over temp. alarm (first 60 / first 90 minutes ) Flashing Red Long duration over temp. alarm (After the first 60/ first 90 minutes of an Amber alarm) 3. No color (only temperature display) The default color scheme setting is BGA. To change the color scheme, unlock the display unit first, and then follow these steps: 1. 15 2. Select #4 using Up/Down switch 3. Then trigger F/X switch again to confirm function selection. The display will show the current color scheme. bga means Blue Green Amber. GAr means Green Amber Red. n-c means No color. 4. Select any color scheme using Up/Down switch. 5. Trigger F/X switch to confirm you selection. The color scheme is now Green Amber Red. 16 Function #12: Alarm Flag If the unit ever went out of temperature the display unit will alternate between temperature reading and ALA. This means that even though the case is back in temperature, it has been out of temperature for more than 60 minutes previously. First 60 minutes after defrost timer is up (70 minutes on set-points with freeze alarm) The units will shows ALA on display along with flashing amber/yellow for the first 60 minutes after 60 minutes defrost timer is up. (70 minutes after 70 minutes defrost timer is up on set-point with freeze alarm) Master Alarm will turn on within 60 minutes (Wireless System Only) Display Alternates After an alarm condition has gone away The unit will go back to normal operation, however the display will alternate between ALA and the actual temperature, alternating approximately every three seconds. Magnet End To clear the alarm condition, Tap F/C here FIRST Tap F/C switch once using a RI Magik Wand or any strong magnet. Once the temperature goes back below (or over, for hot food set-point 142F), the TS.2 unit will display the temperature and ALA repetitively until F/C switch has been triggered. 17 1. Trigger F/X switch, the display unit will ask what function to select. 2. Using Up/Down switch select # Trigger F/X switch, the confirm function selection The display unit will show current ALA status. -ALA 4. Using Up/Down switch, turn ALA display on (or off) +ALA 5. Trigger F/X switch to confirm ALA setting Function #5: Set-Point Set-Point is a temperature point where a case turns from being in good status to alarm (out of temperature) status. There are 8 different set-points. Dual Set-Points (5.0 F and 40.0 F) For dual temperature case, the set-point can be automatically switched between 5.0 F and 40.0 F depending on the Dual Temperature switch on the case. Therefore when the dual temperature case is changes between Frozen Food Case to Fresh Food Case, the display unit will automatically change its set-point to match the case temperature setting. 0.0 F LED COLOR and STATE DESCRIPTIONS SOLID BLUE on BGA SOLID GREEN on GAR Below set-point. 21 SOLID GREEN Case has reached or is above set-point. (Above 142 degree Fahrenheit) FLASHING AMBER Case has never reached set-point or has been below set-point for more than 60 minutes. Device assumes case failure and triggers the Amber Alarm. Any food should be removed until the case is repaired. Case has been below the set-point for more than 4 hours. FLASHING RED If prepared food has been in the case up to a Red Alarm the food should be discarded. (Second Alarm after Amber Alarm) Suggested Product for this Set-point: - Hot Foods - Prepared Foods The default set-point is 40.0 F. To change the set-point, unlock the display unit first, and then follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X switch, the display will ask for what function to select. 2. Select #5 using Up/Down switch 3. Then trigger F/X switch again to confirm function selection. The display unit will show the current set-point. (or 4.4 C if the default temperature scale is in Celsius) 4. Select any set-point using Up/Down switch. (or C if the default temperature scale is in Celsius) 5. Trigger F/X switch to confirm your selection. The set-point is now 5.0 F (or C if the default temperature scale is in Celsius) Function #6: Defrost Timer On larger case it may takes more time to get back into temperature after defrost cycle has end. For that the display unit can be adjusted for 60 or 90 minutes defrost cycle. The default defrost timer is 60 minutes. To change the defrost timer, unlock the display unit first, and then follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X switch, the display unit will ask for what function to select. 22 2. Select #6 using Up/Down switch 3. Then trigger F/X Switch again to confirm function selection. the display unit will show the current defrost timer in minutes d60 means the defrost timer is 60 minutes before going into alarm mode 4. Change the defrost timer to 90 minutes using Up/Down switch. 5. Trigger F/X switch again to confirm you selection. The defrost timer is now set to 90 minutes before going into alarm. 23 WIRELESS INTERFACE SETTINGS For this function list to have any effect, a Wireless Display Unit is required. The difference between Non-Wireless and Wireless Display unit This is a Non-Wireless Display Unit. There is no wireless module installed This is Wireless Display Unit. There is a wireless module installed. These functions list governs how the display unit interfaces and communicates through wireless network. With in a single wireless network (a single Wireless ID), the Display Unit ID is unique. There can be more than one wireless network running at the same time. 24 Function #7: Turn On/Off Wireless Module, and View Display Unit ID If the display unit is part of the Wireless Network, this is the function to check for the display unit ID. By default the display unit is not jointed (Wireless Module turned off) to any wireless network. Turning Wireless Module ON To turn on wireless module, unlock the display unit first, and then follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X switch, the display unit will ask for what function to select. 2. Select #7 using Up/Down switch. 3. Trigger F/X switch to confirm function selection. It will show -Jna, since wireless module is turned off 4. Using Up/Down switch. Turn wireless module on 5. Trigger F/X switch to confirm your selection. The display unit will then ask for wireless ID to join to. Note that the first dash is blinking Using Up/Down switch, set the first digit of the wireless ID to joint to. Select any character between 1 to 9 and also between A to F In this case, I ve selected D as the first digit 6. Trigger F/X switch to confirm your selection. Please refer to Function #8: Setting Output Channel View Wireless ID and Display unit ID In the case of replacement, maintenance, or documentary purposes, it is useful to know the Display Unit ID and what Wireless ID a particular display unit is connected/jointed to. To check the Display Unit ID and Wireless ID for a particular display, unlock the display unit first, and then follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X switch, the display unit will ask what function to select. 2. Select #7 using Up/Down switch 3. Trigger F/X switch. If the unit displays -Jna the wireless module is off If the unit displays +Jna the wireless module in on. In this case the wireless module is on. 4. Turning Wireless Module OFF In the case of replacement, maintenance, or documentary purposes, it is useful to turn off wireless module on a display unit. Function #8: Assigning/Viewing Output Channel For the Energy Management Controller to receive temperature data from the display unit, we need to assign an output channel f or it. Output channel is a path from the Display Unit to the Energy Management (EMS) Controller. So that temperature data from the display unit can be properly routed to the EMS Controller. Display unit are assigned an output channel by entering a Board #, Point #, and Sensor #. By default, Output Channel is not set. To assign or view output channel, unlock the display unit, and then follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X switch, the display unit will ask what function to select. 2. Select #8 using Up/Down switch 3. Trigger F/X switch. If display unit has an output channel, then it will display the Board number. In this case, the output channel has not been set yet. 4. Using Up/Down switch, select board number from In this case, we are routing the display unit temperature data to board #5. 5. Trigger F/X switch to confirm board number selection. Display unit will ask for a point number in board #5. If display unit has an output channel, then it will display the Point number In this case, the output channel has not been set yet. 6. Using Up/Down switch, select point number. To delete/change existing output channel, unlock the display unit, and follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X, the display unit will ask what function to select. 2. Using Up/Down switch select Function # Trigger F/X switch to confirm function selection. Function #10: Assigning New Multi-Node ID Multi-Node ID is another form of Display Unit ID# for display unit in Multi-Node configuration. A power supply called the Row Control Computer (RCC) is required. This function is suitable for assigning new display unit. By default, the display unit has no multi-node ID. Trigger F/X switch to confirm your selection. The display will blink 3 dashes as it waits for multi-node ID # (blinking) 5. Once the display is showing a number and blinking. Multi-Node ID has been assigned successfully. In this case the RCC has assigned Multi-Node ID # 4 Function #11: Replacing/Viewing Existing Multi-Node ID Multi-Node ID is another form of Display Unit ID# for display unit in Multi-Node configuration. A power supply called the Row Control Computer (RCC) is required. This function is suitable for replacing a display unit that has specific Multi-Node ID. Do not assign new display unit using this function. RCC will not recognize Multi-Node ID# set using this function. By default, the new display unit has no multi-node ID. Replacing Existing Multi-Node ID To set the new display unit to existing Multi-Node ID, unlock the display unit, and then follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X switch, the display unit will ask what function to select. 2. Using Up/Down arrows, select # Trigger F/X switch to confirm function selection. If the new unit has old Multi-Node ID, it will display it. In this case the unit is factory default. 4. Using Up/Down switches, select existing Multi-Node ID. 2 In this case, we re replacing an existing display unit with Multi-node ID #2 5. WIRED INTERFACE SETTINGS Function #14: Enable/Disable Analog Output The display unit is capable of providing an Analog Voltage to allow direct connection to any device with an Analog input for reading temperature. This allows direct connection from the unit to the EMS Controller. This function requires Multi-Node (Spine) Hardware Configuration By default the analog output is disabled. To enable analog output, unlock the display unit, and follow these steps: 1. Trigger F/X switch, the display unit will ask what function to select 2. Select #14 using Up/Down switch Trigger F/X switch to confirm function selection. The display will show current state of Analog Output -DAc In this case the analog output is disabled. 4.
