3 Troubleshooting Guide 3 IN CASE OF TROUBLE If a problem occurs, review manual section covering activity associated with problem. If necessary, consult Troubleshooting Guide on following pages. This guide identifies problems, possible causes and suggested actions f: Problems during startup Netwk problems Image problems Alarm detection problems Filter problems Problems during unit operation Archive problems If problem cannot be solved, you may have to contact your dealer facty. When you call f suppt, representative will ask you to provide specific infmation about installation. To save time, spend a few minutes getting ganized. Befe calling Technical Suppt, write down following infmation: The serial number of your Intellex unit. The software version and feature as shown on About Intellex screen (see About Intellex in Intellex Operating Instructions). The make and model of each piece of hardware connected to Intellex. Approximate date of purchase and of installation. The exact text of err message (if any). The symptoms you have observed. NOTE: Please do not return any product to facty without obtaining a Return Authization (RA) number. Failure to do so can result in a significant delay in processing your repair. To obtain an authization number, contact Technical Suppt.

4 4 Intellex Digital Video Management Sysem PROBLEM Power indicat is not lit. Nothing displays on main monit. Nothing displays on optional video out monit. Nothing displays on optional Call Monit output. No Power TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE POSSIBLE CAUSE S Problems During Startup power to unit. switch not engaged. Voltage switch not set crectly. No power to monit. Monit cable is not properly connected. SUGGESTED ACTION Make sure power cd is crectly connected to unit. Make sure power is available at supply outlet. Insert a paper clip into pinhole below power indicat to turn on unit power. Set voltage switch to crect voltage: Make sure power cd is connected to monit crectly and switch is turned on. Make sure monit cable is connected to Monit connect on rear panel. U nit is not powered up. Power up unit. No power to optional video out monit. Monit cable is not properly connected. No power to optional call monit. Call Monit cable is not properly connected. Make sure power cd is connected to monit crectly and switch is turned on. Make sure video cable f optional video out monit is connected to Video Out connect on rear panel. Make sure power cd is connected to call monit crectly and switch is turned on. Make sure video cable f optional call monit is connected to Call Monit Out connect on rear panel.

5 Troubleshooting Guide 5 PROBLEM Unit displays mouse missing err message. Unit locks up befe Intellex splash screen appears. Unit locks up after Intellex splash screen appears. Intellex hardware verification screen appears. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE POSSIBLE CAUSE S Problems During Startup (continued) Mouse device is not connected its plug is not fully seated in its connect. A problem occurred during Windows 98 startup. A key on keyboard is stuck. Unit encountered an Intellex software database problem. Hardware diagnostics encountered a problem during startup. SUGGESTED ACTION Connect mouse device, making sure plug is fully seated. Insert a paper clip into pinhole above REC indicat on front panel to reset unit. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE POSSIBLE CAUSES Netwk Connection Problems The cable is neir Categy 3 n Categy 5 twisted-pair Ernet (CAT 3 TPE CAT 5 TPE). A cable connect is defective. Replace affected with a known good. Check replace video cable and connections. Set crect termination on T ermination screen. Test unit by switching input and output cables to a different pair of connects. Then disable termination on Terminatio n screen. If images still do not appear on loop through device, check device, its cable and its connects. Test unit by switching input and output cables to a different pair of connects. Then disable termination on Terminatio n screen. If images now appear on loop through device, contact your dealer Sensmatic.

9 Troubleshooting Guide 9 PROBLEM No response to an alarm input. Alarm output devices do not respond. Continuous alarm when alarm input is connected. Intermittent Video L oss alarms. Unit does not trigger filter when imptant activity occurs. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE POSSIBLE CAUSE S Alarm Detection Problems Alarm occurred during D isabled segment. Alarm input polarity increctly set. System time not set crectly in 24-hour fmat. Alarm output device not connected properly. System time not set crectly in 24-hour fmat. Alarm not connected properly. Alarm input polarity increctly set. SUGGESTED ACTION To begin alarm moniting, change segment to Active Alarmed on Schedule Setup screens. Change input polarity on A larm In Polarity screen. Use Date/Time option to set system time in 24-hour fmat. Check connections and crectly connect alarm. Use Date/Time option to set system time in 24-hour fmat. Unit triggers filter when no activity occurs. Column text does not display completely on Status, Alarm Review Search Results screens. The screen goes blank during playback. When you click P lay again, playback resumes at a different time. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE POSSIBLE CAUSE S Filter Problems (continued) System time not set crectly in 24-hour fmat. Unimptant activity area is included in target area. Sensitivity is set too high. System time not set crectly in 24-hour fmat. Light area. level is too low in target Camera not mounted properly. Camera faulty. is random interlace Problems During Unit Operation Column width is adjusted. not crectly The unit is in circular mode, and it has overwritten oldest playback images in image database with newer images. SUGGESTED ACTION Use Date/Time option to set system time in 24-hour fmat. Deactivate unimptant area on appropriate filter setup screen. Change Sensitivit y setting on appropriate filter setup screen. Use Date/Time option to set system time in 24-hour fmat. Increase light level in target area. Stabilize mount. Check operation. Replace with 2:1 (full) interlace. Drag line between column headers to right to increase column width. Release it when complete text appears. Since images have been overwritten, reste appropriate video segment(s) from archive tape. Then play rested images.

11 Troubleshooting Guide 11 PROBLEM When enhancing an image, Reste button becomes disabled. When you return to playback screen, it is blank. Unit displays an err message and exits to Windows 98. Text images show through option setup screens. F TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE POSSIBLE CAUSE S Problems During Unit Operation (continued) The unit is in circular mode, and it has overwritten image in image database with a newer image. Unit encountered an Intellex software database problem. A problem exists database. in image Archive Problems SUGGESTED ACTION If you saved printed enhanced image, do nothing. Orwise, reste appropriate video segment from archive tape. Then locate and enhance crect image. Contact your dealer Sensmatic. 12 12 Intellex Digital Video Management Sysem TAPE MESSAGES MESSAGE The tape drive is empty. The unit cannot back up image database without a tape in tape drive. The tape is write protected. The unit cannot back up image database to a tape that is write protected. The unit ejects tape. When a tape problem occurs during archive reste, use following table to identify appropriate action. TAPE MESSAGES During Archive ACTION Insert a backup tape. After tape drive lights stop blinking, click N ext. The unit checks tape again. To use this tape: 1. Disable write protection. Move slide to close opening on back of tape. 2. Insert tape. After tape drive lights stop blinking, click N ext. The unit checks tape again. To use a different tape: Insert a different tape. After tape drive lights stop blinking, click N ext. The unit checks new tape. The tape is not fmatted. The unit cannot back up image database to an unfmatted tape. The tape fmat is not compatible. The unit cannot back up image database to a tape with a different fmat. To fmat this tape: Select Yes and click Next. After fmatting tape, unit continues with backup. To use a different tape: Select No and click N ext. After unit ejects tape, insert a different tape. After tape drive lights stop blinking, click N ext. The unit checks new tape. To refmat this tape: Select Yes and click Next. After fmatting tape, unit continues with backup. To use a different tape: Select No and click N ext. After unit ejects tape, insert a different tape. After tape drive lights stop blinking, click N ext. The unit checks new tape.

13 Troubleshooting Guide 13 Message The tape drive is empty. The unit cannot reste images without a tape in tape drive. The tape fmat is not compatible. The unit can only reste images from a tape which was fmatted on an Intellex unit. The Status indicat on tape drive is flashing. The drive needs to be cleaned. The tape drive has completed 24 hours of operation since last cleaning. Please clean it befe you continue archiving. Lost communication to tape driver (0xnn-0xnnnn). A processing err occurred. The archived images are secure. Hardware err (0xnn-0xnnnn). Eir tape drive must be cleaned a tape drive problem occurred. TAPE MESSAGES During Reste Action Insert a backup tape. After tape drive lights stop blinking, click N ext. The unit checks tape again. After unit ejects tape, insert a different tape. After tape drive lights stop blinking, click Next. The unit checks new tape. Or Messages Stop archive operation and clean tape drive (see C leaning Tape Drive). To clean tape drive now: Click Yes and N ext to clean tape drive immediately. Follow on-screen directions. To clean tape drive later: NOTE: If you postpone cleaning tape drive, you may render unit inoperable, resulting in data loss. Click No and Next to clean tape drive later. As soon as possible, clean tape drive (see C leaning Tape Drive). Write down err number. Click Finish to exit message screen. Shut down unit. Power unit down, n up. Restart archive operation. If problem remains, contact your dealer Sensmatic. Write down err number. Click Finish to exit message screen. Then try archive reste again. If problem remains, clean tape drive (see Cleaning Tap e Drive). If problem still remains, contact your dealer Sensmatic.

14 14 Intellex Digital Video Management Sysem MESSAGE Hardware err: The tape drive heads are clogged. The tape drive will not operate until you clean it. Tape media err (0xnn-0xnnnn). Eir tape drive must be cleaned tape is damaged. All tape messages. TAPE MESSAGES Or Messages (continued) ACTION Click Finish to exit message screen. Clean tape drive immediately (see Cleaning Tape Drive). If problem remains, tape drive probably needs service. Contact your dealer Sensmatic. Write down err number. Click Finish to exit message screen. Clean tape drive (see Cleaning Tap e Drive). If problem remains, try a new tape. If new tape wks, iginal tape is damaged and should not be used. If it contains data, a third-party data recovery service may be able to recover some all of data. Write down exact text of message. Then click Finish to exit message screen. Try archive operation again. If problem remains, contact your dealer Sensmatic.

15 Troubleshooting Guide 15 Cleaning Tape Drive Many tape problems result from dirty and clogged heads on tape drive. Often se problems can be resolved by regular drive maintenance. In units equipped with a Sony tape drive Status light on tape drive blinks and unit displays a message to remind you to clean drive. NOTE: Proper maintenance of tape drive is required f reliable operation. Sony tape drives should be cleaned after every 24 hours of operation. Use Sony cleaning cartridges in Sony tape drive. OnStream ADR tape drives should be cleaned after every 500 hours of operation. Use only OnStream ADR Cleaning cartridges in OnStream tape drive. Follow directions included with eir brand of cleaning cartridge. Use following procedure to clean tape drive: 1. Eject tape from unit (if any). 2. Insert cleaning tape. After about seconds, unit ejects cleaning tape and Status light stops blinking. If Status light keeps blinking, discard cleaning cartridge and use a new one. 3. Continue archive operation. If you still have tape problems, try cleaning tape drive again. If this does not wk, tape drive probably needs service. Contact your dealer Sensmatic.
