1 X-Digital Systems XDS receiver QUICK START GUIDE REVIEW THIS GUIDE IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR XDS RECEIVER. ALSO, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE CALLING SUPPORT. Make all satellite RF, data (LAN/WAN) and audi cnnectins prir t applying AC pwer t the XDS receiver. Westwd One strngly recmmends the use f a Phase Lcked Lp (PLL) LNB fr yur new XDS receiver. The Lcal Oscillatr (LO) stability f yur LNB shuld nt be abve (wrse than) 25kHz. If this XDS receiver is designated t supply DC pwer t the LNB at yur dish, be sure t turn n the LNB vltage n the frnt panel menu AFTER the LNB is cnnected (See Satellite RF Cnnectin sectin 1.1 n page 2). Westwd One urges statins t use an Uninterruptible Pwer Supply (UPS) fr the XDS receiver fr equipment prtectin frm pwer spikes r brwnuts. Als cnsider lightning prtectin if yu are lcated in an area susceptible t frequent lightning strms. Surge suppressrs d nt prvide sufficient prtectin. 2 1. MAKING THE CONNECTIONS Satellite RF, data (LAN/WAN) and audi must be prperly cnnected. Please fllw the steps belw: 1.1 SATELLITE RF CONNECTION Yur XDS receiver is pre-tuned t the Westwd One carrier n SES-11. Once the satellite RF is prperly cnnected and yu apply AC pwer, the XDS receiver shuld autmatically tune and lck t the Westwd One carrier. A. Cnnect the satellite RF t yur dwnlink Yur new XDS receiver is delivered with a parts kit that includes tw 6-ft RG-6 cables and an L-band splitter that allws DC pwer t pass thrugh ne prt. B. Verify the XDS receiver is tuned and lcked t the WESTWOOD ONE carrier Once the satellite RF is prperly cnnected, apply AC pwer t the receiver and verify as fllws: If the SIGNAL LED is green then the receiver is lcked t the WESTWOOD ONE carrier and the LCD screen will display: (Westwd One lg) EB ##.# AG ### (# = numerical value) EB shuld be abve 9.0 and AG shuld be between abut 30 and 60 fr prper peratin. If the XDS receiver des nt acquire the Westwd One carrier, the red FAULT LED will illuminate steadily and the LCD screen will display: (Westwd One lg) EB._ AG ### (# = numerical value) Verify prper RF cnnectins and the XDS receiver shuld autmatically lck t the carrier. 3 T manually tune the XDS receiver t Westwd One carrier n SES-11: At the main screen with the Westwd One lg, press the SET key, then the left r right arrw keys t reach. Press SET. Press the left r right arrw keys t reach Tuner. Press SET. Press the left r right arrw keys t reach Frequency. Press SET. Use the fur arrw keys and the SET key t set the frequency t khz Press the left r right arrw keys t reach Symbl Rate. Press SET. Use the fur arrw keys and the SET key t set the symbl rate t sps The XDSPRO receiver shuld lck. (Green SIGNAL LED will illuminate steadily). If this XDS receiver is designated t supply DC pwer t the LNB at yur dish, yu can turn n the LNB vltage n the XDS receiver frnt panel menu as fllws: Make sure yur dwnlink LNB is cnnected t the XDS receiver Apply AC pwer t the receiver Frm the main screen with the Westwd One lg, press the SET key, then press the left r right arrws t reach. Press SET. Press the left r right arrws t reach Tuner. Press SET. Press the left r right arrws t reach LNBV, Press SET and turn the LNB Vltage n. If the frnt panel f yur XDS receiver displays flashing red lights, this indicates all Activatin and Installatin steps have nt been cmpleted and/r yur XDS receiver is nt cnnected t the internet. All Activatin and Installatin steps, including yur internet cnnectin, must be cmpleted r yu will NOT receive Westwd One prgramming, including ESPN. 4 1.2 AUDIO OUTPUT CONNECTIONS Once the XDS receiver is lcked t the Westwd One carrier yu can verify audi functinality as fllws: A. Verify audi receptin Initially the XDS receiver headphne utput and all the audi prts are prgrammed t receive the Test Channel. Cnnect a set f headphnes and verify yu can hear the Test Channel. T manually prgram the XDS receiver headphne t utput the Test Channel: At the main screen with the Westwd One lg, press the SET key, then the left r right arrws t reach Audi Prts. Press SET. Press the left r right arrws t reach Headphnes. Press SET. Press the left r right arrws t reach Prgram. Press SET. Use the up and dwn arrws t find Test Channel. Press SET. B. Verify audi prts Yur new XDS receiver is delivered with a parts kit including fur mating DB-9 cnnectrs with shells. The analg audi utputs fr yur services appear at the fur DB-9 cnnectrs n the rear panel. Wiring pinuts are the same as n the lder Starguide receivers: AUDIO OUTPUT DB9M Pin Signal Signal Pin 1 L+ L- 6 2 GND GND GND R- 9 5 R+ Rule: Each DB-9 cnnectr carries ne radi prgram stream, either mn r stere. If the prgram is mn, the same audi appears n the left and right pin pairs. In mst cases, the left and right sides f a stere channel are n lnger used by Westwd One t carry unrelated mn prgrams. 5 Yur receiver shuld be pre-cnfigured t utput the Test Channel n all prts. Verify yu can hear the test prgram thrugh all receiver prts. T manually prgram the XDS receiver t utput the Test Channel n a desired audi prt: At the main screen with the Westwd One lg, press the SET key, then the left r right arrws t reach Audi Prts. Press SET. Press the left r right arrws t select the Audi Prt (letter A, B, C r D). Press SET. Press the left r right arrws t select Prgram. Press SET. Use the up and dwn arrws t find Test Channel. Press SET. 1.3 INTERNET CONNECTION This new XDS receiver requires cnnectin t an always-n internet pathway. The internet pathway is used by Westwd One t trublesht remtely, send audi r text cntent t yur receiver s strage, send cmmercial playback schedules, retrieve as-played lgs f cmmercials inserted by the receiver, and mre. Yur XDS receiver is delivered with a 20-ft Categry 5 data patch crd wired straight thrugh (nt crssver) fr cnnectin t yur netwrks hub r switch. A. Cnnect the XDS Receiver t yur netwrk If yu elect t place yur XDS receiver in yur lcal netwrk inside yur firewall, cnnect yur netwrk cable t ne f the receiver s LAN prts. The receiver is set by default t btain a dynamic IP address, als called a DHCP address, frm yur netwrk s DHCP server. If there is n DHCP server r yu elect t assign a static IP address, yu can d it as fllws: Assigning a Static IP address t a LAN Prt: At the main screen with the Westwd One lg, press the SET key, then the left r right arrw keys t reach. Press SET. Press the left r right arrw keys t reach Netwrk. Press SET. The default settings fr DHCP is ON. Use the SET and arrw keys t change DHCP frm ON t OFF. Press the left r right arrw keys t g t the LAN Address menu. Press SET. Use the up and dwn arrw keys and the SET key t set the desired IP address. Press the left r right arrw keys t g t the LAN Subnet menu. Press SET. Use the up and dwn arrw keys and the SET key t set the desired subnet address. Press the left and right arrws t g t the Gateway menu and press SET. Use the up and dwn arrw keys and the SET key t set the desired gateway address. 6 Assigning a Static IP address t the WAN Prt: If yu elect t cnnect yur receiver in a firewall zne called a DMZ (demilitarized zne) r Outside the firewall where it can see the internet directly, cnnect yur netwrk cable t the receiver s WAN prt. Yu must assign a static IP WAN Address, WAN Subnet, and Gateway. Fllw the Assigning a Static IP address t a LAN Prt instructins abve t g t the apprpriate WAN menus and change settings as desired. NOTE: If yur netwrk requires the use f a prxy server, please refer t the nline user s guide lcated at yur affiliate s website. Refer t Sectin 2 n page 7 fr instructins n hw t lgin t yu yur website. B. Test cnnectin t the Westwd One NOC At the main screen with the Westwd One lg, press the SET key, then the left r right arrw keys t reach. Press SET. Press the left r right arrw keys t reach Netwrk. Press SET. Press the left r right arrw keys t TEST NOC. Press SET. Press the NOC sftkey t perfrm the test. The test will take a minute r tw. Yu will get a SUCCESFULLY CONNECTED TO NOC message if yur IP settings are crrect. Otherwise yu will get a CANNOT CONNECT TO NOC message and yu will need t adjust yur IP settings (n the receiver, r in yur netwrk s switches, ruters r firewall) until the receiver can cnnect t the NOC. T trublesht, yu can use the PING sftkey t verify yur receiver can lcally cnnect t yur netwrk gateway. 1.4 AUTOMATION RELAY CLOSURES There are tw DB-37 cnnectrs n the rear panel which tgether cntain a ttal f 32 mappable relay (r cntact) clsures t drive yur statin autmatin. 7 NOTE: Wiring pinut fr the RELAY A prt is the same as n the StarGuide receiver with Westwd One Netcue Card. The NQ TxD pin is RS-232 data with n flw cntrl r handshaking. Baud rate is set by default t 9600 bps 8N1. THREE CHARACTER NETCUES: If yu currently use a Netcue/Data card in yur Starguide receiver, any 3-character Netcue that Westwd One sends ut can be mapped t any cntact clsure yu wish. Cntact ur Technical Services department r cntract Help Desk t help yu map yur existing Netcues t the same relay pins n ne f the DB-37 cnnectrs n yur new XDS receiver. 2. VERIFY PROGRAMMING AND ACTIVATE In the XDS system each prgram, nt each channel, is permissined and labeled fr statin use. 8 schedule the prgrams t appear n each utput prt. Yu will need t review yur schedule and activate yur receiver with yur statins prgramming. Initially yur receiver nly utputs the Test Channel n all prts, the frnt panel LCD shws a Please Activate message and the range UPDATE LED in flashing. Yu must edit and activate the schedule f the prgrams that yu want t appear n each audi utput prt f the XDS receiver thrugh the WESTWOOD ONE Affiliate website at T lgin yu will use the XDS receiver s serial number as the username and a passwrd generated by the receiver. T find this passwrd: At the main screen with the Westwd One lg, press the SET key, then the left r right arrws t reach. Press SET. Press the left r right arrws t select Serial Number. Press the PWD sftkey t display yur passwrd. Once lgged in, yu may setup a friendly passwrd t the site and als review and apprve yur receiver s setup (Time Zne, Schedule, Relay Mappings, etc). Adjust Time Zne the apprpriate time zne fr yur receiver Review Schedule Yu will see the default schedule fr every statin yur receiver supprts. Please mdify and verify yur schedule as desired. RULE: Each call-letter radi statin at yur site that carries any Westwd One prgramming r cmmercials frm this XDS receiver must be assigned t an XDS receiver prt and each prt must be scheduled t utput the prgrams yu need. NOTE: Yur new XDS receiver cntains abut 32 hurs f audi strage which yu may use t tape delay netwrk prgrams and schedule them t play later. 9 Review Relay Mappings Yu will see the default relay mapping cnfiguratin fr yur receiver. Please mdify and verify yur mappings as desired. Apprve and Activate Once yu reviewed all yur desired settings, check the APPROVE SETUP AND ACTIVATE bx, press the UPDATE buttn, and the NOC will send the updated prgramming t yur receiver. It may take a cuple f minutes fr the XDS receiver t dwnlad the Westwd One prgramming infrmatin. T verify yur receiver is activated, the UPDATE LED will turn ff and the frnt panel LCD will display the XDSPRO message instead f the Please Activate message 3.
