1 SELENA ATOMIC CLOCK ( Option # ) Rev. GS34 ATOMIC CLOCK WITH ( Optional Feature ) ( option # ) In all Atomic clock with receiver option configurations the functions Fn 70 must be enabled. The Daylight Savings correction for US and Canada may be enabled by enabling the function Fn 60. In order to use the receiver option, the clock must have at least one or input port installed. In a MultiZone clock system, the zone offset may setup by enabling the function Fn 50 as described in the section: MultiZone Clock Systems. Many commercial receivers may be used with the Selena clocks as long as they are WAAS enabled and generate the NMEA 0183 standard sequences in the default mode at 4800 bps. However, it is advisable that the Selena receivers model or V be used for best results. In a multiclock MasterSlave configuration, one clock assigned as the Master may be connected to a receiver while other slave clocks may be synchronized with the Master by other methods as specified in the section: Master Slave Synchronized System Clock Networks. Similarly, more than one clock may be connected to the same receiver as long as the maximum, allowed load of the communication link is not exceeded. Activating the Atomic Clock option The function Fn 70 must be enabled. If external receiver is used, the receiver cable must be connected to the 4pin terminal block on the back panel of the clock as follows: model: V Black wire terminal on clock Black wire White wire terminal on clock Green wire No connection terminal on clock No connection Red wire terminal on clock Red wire If an extension cable is used between the receiver and the clock, it is important to keep the wire resistance of the and supply wires as low as possible. In most applications the cable does not have to be shielded. However, in an environment with a lot of electrical interference a shielded cable may be used. In such instance, connect the cable shield to the terminal. Note, that the Selena clock can indicate if it receives a valid time data from the. This indicator is the decimal dot after the forth digit in the time display. This indication is active as long as the function Fn 12 is enabled. At the first powerup the dot may come ON at the 50th second of each minute and stay on until the clock recovers a valid time data from the, or until the 00th second. Subsequently, the data is sampled once, each minute, beginning at the 50th second until the 00th second. As soon as the data is detected as valid, the dot will be turned off, until the next minute. This feature may be deactivated at any time by disabling the function Fn 12. Perform the following steps: 1. Place the receiver near, at or outside a window, so that it has unobstructed view of at least a part of the sky.. 2. Connect the receiver's cable to the clock terminal block. 3. Power up the clock. 1

After several seconds, the display will turn on and will show the time reading, which at this point, may not be accurate, depending if the clock was synchronized before and if it still has the backup charge enough to maintain the timekeeping without the supply power. Normally, the initial time recovery should not take longer than appx. 3 minutes. 5. After the clock receives the first valid data from the, the time will be synchronized with the Atomic Time and Date transmitted by the satellites. Depending upon the Time Zone settings in the clock ( see Fn 50 and Fn 51 ) and if the Daylight Savings is enabled ( see Fn 60 ), the time displayed by the clock may or may not be correct for the clock location. 6. From this point on, the clock will attempt to receive the time at the 50th second of each minute until the 00th second. The indicator dot, if enabled, will be turned on each time and turned off as soon as the data is received, which normally should take approximately 1 to 2 seconds. If necessary, the indicator dot function may be deactivated by disabling the function Fn Any of the clock functions or settings may be changed by the user at any time via the remote control. Note, that whenever the data becomes unavailable for whatever reason, the clock will automatically revert to its internal time base that was synchronized all the time when the data was most recently valid. Therefore the time accuracy will remain very high until the next time sync from the. When the clock supply is interrupted, the display will be automatically turned off, but the internal selfrecharging backup will continue accurate timekeeping for approximately 2 weeks on each charge. Full recharge takes approximately 30 minutes when the supply power is restored. Using the clock as the Master clock. In a multiclock MasterSlave configuration, the Master may be a clock with a receiver installed. In such case, one of the simplest configurations is achieved by linking the Master clock with all Slaves by wiring the or cable between the Master clock and the Slaves. That cable should be connected in parallel to all clocks and the Master clock should be setup as the Transmitter of the sync data by enabling the function Fn32 or certain other functions as explained in the section Master Slave Sync System with Serial Communication. If the Master clock and the Slaves have interface installed, the Transmit ( ) pin on the terminal in the Master clock should be connected to the Receive ( ) pin of the in all Slave clocks. Then the Slave clocks should be set as sync receivers by enabling the function Fn34 or by enabling the repeater functions as described in the section: Master Slave Sync Signal Range ExtenderRepeater. Note, that the ( Ground ) wire in the Master and all Slaves should also be wired up together. DO NOT connect any wires to the terminal. That supply is only for powering up the receiver unit itself. 1. In clocks with the alphanumeric ELECTRONIC TEXT / DATE display, consult the manual section: Date / Text and ZONE text display. The functions Fn80, 85 and Fn86 control the assignments of the electronic text. 2. During assigning of the ZONE TIME OFFSET or the ZONE TEXT, the operation of the SET key on the Remote Control is changed, depending if the function Fn86 or Fn51 are enabled. Never let both functions be enabled at the same time. 2
