5 Chapter r 1: Introducton I ton Overvew At tmes multple AV sgnals need to be transferred to multple nearby ouput montors. The AV Router allows multple VGA/audo nputs to be routed to multple outputs smultaneously, by way of a drect connecton nto router. The AV Router s a hgh-qualty swtchng matrx VGA type sgnals. All sgnal mats are catered ncludng VGA, SVGA, XGA, RGBHV and sync on green (SOG applcatons. For ease of nstallaton, Standard VGA connectors (HD15 sockets are used nput as well as output vdeo sgnal. All that s requred s a standard pn-to-pn VGA cable to connect to sgnal source. Stereo audo can also be routed to multple outputs. The audo can er be routed ndependently or toger wth vdeo sgnal usng SmartControl software that s very easy to use. Note: maxmum sgnal permance, use only hgh qualty cable that has nternal coaxal cable each color. The unts contan a very hgh bandwdth routng matrx Red, Green and Blue vdeo channels. 6 Chapter r 2: Installaton t l la Connectng AVRouter (Quck Start Warnng: As a precauton, we recommend that you dsconnect all power cords and make sure that all devces are turned off. 1. Plug n all external audo/vdeo sources to back of AVRouter. (Inputs 2. Connect all external montors and speakers to back of AVRouter. (Outputs 3. Connect RS232/RS422 adapter to male seral port on your computer. Then connect RS422/RJ45 adapter to that frst adapter 4. Use CAT5 cable to connect adapters (from computer to rght (R CAT5 termnal on front panel of AVRouter unt. 5. Plug power cable nto AVRouter unt. 6. Install SmartControl software. 7. Power on AVRouter. Note: 2 adapters wll be connected toger. Ths s normal. RS232 to RS422 to RJ45. Page 6

7 Chapter r 2: Installaton t l la Connectng AVRouter (Detaled Instructons Vdeo and Audo Inputs The vdeo nput AVRouter s a standard HD15 connecton. Connect all of Input vdeo sources to back of AVRouter unt. The nputs are located on rght half of rear panel. Hnt: You may want to label nput vdeo connectons so as not to lose track of where sgnal s comng from. Later on when software s nstalled you wll be able to gve each connecton a name and software wll remember t you. Ths way you can swtch vdeo connectons wthout havng to look at physcal connectons on back of unt. (You can also use ncluded page at end of ths manual n order to keep track of connectons as you make m. The audo nputs AVRouter are standard 3.5 mm Stereo Mnplug connectors. Connect all of audo nputs to back of AVRouter unt. The nputs are located on rght half of rear panel. Many computer audo sources use ths standard connecton but re s or equpment such as recevers, and VCRs where a specal adapter cable wll be needed. Such as a 3.5mm mnplug to stereo RCA cable. Make sure that audo and vdeo are comng from same source and are plugged same nput number. For example, f audo from one computer s connected to nput 1, n vdeo should also be connected to nput 1. Vdeo and Audo Outputs The vdeo and audo connectons AVRouter outputs are exactly same. The only dfference s that y are located on left sde of back panel Connect all of external vdeo montors and correspondng speakers to output connectons located on back of AVRouter unt. Page 7

8 Chapter r 2: Installaton t l la Connectng nec ng Communcaton m n Cable: RS422 2 Each unt can be controlled by a RS422 port connected va a RJ45 on front of chasss. Two connectors are provded expanson, allowng a smple Cat 5 patch cable to lnk to addtonal unts. The SmartControl software wll be used to control unts. There are 2 adapters: RS232 to RS422 adapter (Connects to seral port on your computer RS422 to RJ45 adapter (connects to or adapter as well as AVRouter Unt 1. Connect RS232 to RS422 adapter nto control computer by connectng female RS232 connector nto male RS232 connector of PC. Turn sde screws so that t does not accdentally become dsconnected 2. Connect RS422 to RJ45 adapter to or adapter by connectng female end nto male connector of or adapter. 3. Run a sngle UTP CAT5 cable from ths connector to front of AVRouter unt. 4. Connect CAT5 connector to COMMS connector on rght. Page 8

9 Chapter r 2: Installaton t l la System Power ON AVRouter connecton dagram r You are now ready to turn on system. Make sure that all connectons are plugged n and all vdeo montors and speakers that you wsh to use are connected. 1. Plug n power cord to back of AVRouter unt. Connect ths power cord to wall. 2. Turn computer on and make sure that boot up process has completed. 3. Observe to see f LEDs are lt. The AVRouter unt has two. One of those LEDs s power and or s to ndcate that unt s functonng properly. 4. Power on all external montors and speakers. Page 9

10 Chapter 3: Software r Installaton I la at & Operaton r Fnd Installaton CD that came wth your AVRouter unt. Ths CD has SmartControl software that you wll need n order to control unt usng a computer. Insert CD nto your CD-ROM. On CD you should see: SmartControl Installer.exe SmartControl Help Fle AVRouter Manual n PDF mat Double clck SmartControl.exe n order to ntate software nstallaton. Clck Install. After nstallaton has completed, clck CLOSE. In order to use software, clck on START button>programs>smartcontrol. There you should see a help fle, SmartControl launcher as well as a shortcut to unnstall SmartControl. Clck on SmartControl n order to launch software. When software starts you wll see a screen lke ths. Advanced Confguraton: : If you have more than one Router nstalled you wll want to check ths box. Router r Type: Select SmartNet-X. Ths s not actual model of router but communcaton wll stll functon properly f ths s selected. A/V Splt: Check ths box f you need to route audo and vdeo ndependently, regardless from whch source y orgnated from. Leave unchecked f you want audo and vdeo sgnals from same nput to reman toger. For example, f you wanted to route dfferent vdeo feeds to dfferent locatons but wanted all of m to have same audo, you should check box. Page 10

11 Chapter 3: Software r Installaton I la at & Operaton r Inputs/Outputs: u Enter number of Inputs/Outputs your AVRouter has. For now we wll assume that re are 16 nputs and 16 outputs. Com Port: t Select approprate com port that your computer s usng to access router. Router Tmeout: By default ths s 0 meanng computer acknowledges commands almost nstantly. Sometmes a computer takes longer to respond. Ths settng should be left at 0. If you need to change t, t should be no hgher than 0.2. After you have entered n necessary nmaton clck OK. Ths wll now take you to Man Routng Wndow where you can route dfferent vdeo/ audo connectons. On ths screen you wll notce nput buttons runnng down left sde whle output buttons run across top. They are each labeled 1 through 16. Note: The three small colored buttons at lower rght labeled ALL, VIDEO, and AUDIO are not avalable f AV Splt was not checked when you confgured your router. 12 Chapter 3: Software r Installaton I la at & Operaton r The Man Routng Wndow enables you to control router(s connectons by means of matrx panel, button panel, or wth pre-recorded routes called macros. Matrx r Panel: : Ths s probably smplest way to route connectons. Smply clck on cross pont tself. The nput on left wll n be routed to output above. Note: Inputs can be routed to several dfferent outputs, but each output can only have a sngle nput at any one tme. So you can have several connectons horzontally but not vertcally. The Button Panel: These are numbered buttons across top and left sdes. Clck an output button on top, and n clck an nput button on left. Optons usng Button Panel Output u Optons: To select multple outputs next to each or, clck on one output, n hold shft key down and clck last output. When nput s clcked, t s routed to all selected outputs To select multple outputs ndvdually, hold control key down and clck on any number of outputs. When nput s clcked, t s routed to all selected outputs. Input t Optons: s To route an nput to all outputs at once, hold control key down and clck on an nput. To leave outputs selected after route s made, hold shft key down and clck on an nput. Page 12

13 Chapter 3: Software r Installaton I la at & Operaton r Macros: r s Ths secton of wndow s used to save and play back macros. Macros store a set sequence of routes. To record a macro: 1.. Clck on Record button (last button shown above. A blnkng recordng message below ths button wll be dsplayed to ndcate that all routes are beng recorded. 2.. Select desred cross ponts. (See Matrx Routng detals on makng se routes. There s no lmt on number of routes you may record. 3. If you clck a macro button whle n record mode, macro wll be executed, and se routes wll be added to recordng. Ths makes t possble to combne routes of two or more macros nto one bgger macro. 4. When fnshed, clck Save Macro button. You wll be nstructed to n clck on one of macro buttons. Dong ths wll save recorded routes to that button. To cancel savng macro, clck Cancel Save button. 5. To play back a macro, smply clck on one of 50 macro buttons. Use scrollbar to brng any of se nto vew. 6. The macros are automatcally saved n current confguraton fle. They are also saved when you select Fle/Save Confguraton... menu. To save macros n a separate fle a specal purpose, select Fle/Save Macros...menu. Page 13

14 Chapter r 4: : Addtonal l Hardware r & Operaton Confgurng f ng more than one AVRouter r Many tmes one AVRouter s enough to sut ones needs, but at tmes t becomes necessary to have more connectons. Ths s when t would be necessary to have multple routers n order to have opportunty to have more advanced connectons. There are dfferent ways to connect routers. We wll assume re are two routers. If you want to be able to control r l multple routers, r do followng: l The AVRouter has two RJ45 connectors on front of unt. These connectors are used to control unts usng a PC. The COMMS cable should already be connected to rght RJ45 connector on prmary unt. Connect an addtonal CAT5 cable to left port of prmary unt and run t to rght port on second unt. If you had more unts you would contnue ths seres connectng all of unts toger. Now all routers can be controlled by computer. Remember that ths confguraton s used solely to control unts. Ths confguraton s used only when you want to smulataneously swtch two nputs to dfferent pars of outputs.. For example: you have four screens n one locaton and want to swtch all of those nputsto four or screens n anor locaton. A real lfe example would be a four screen vdeo wall usng 4 AVRouter unts. The four mages must reman toger. As an example. Imagne havng a two-screend vdeo wall presentaton. Each screen has a seperate nput. If you want to swtch both of se nputs nto a separate set of screens, connect AVRouters wth followng confguraton: 1 The vdeo nputs must connect to two seperate routers. You can connect left screen to one of routers and rght screen nto or. Make sure that thy are both connected nto same nput number. 2 Also make sure that outputs are also seprated nto dfferent routers. Make sure that all of left screen nputs and outputs reman on same router. Do same rght screen nputs and outputs. On followng page you wll see setup confguraton to connect four AVRouter unts and have m route a 4 screen presentaton to multple outputs. Page 14

If you purchased any of SmartControl software optons you wll have receved a sutable converter and cable. SmartAVI Technologes, Inc. warrants to end-user customers that SmartAVI product specfed above wll be free from defects n materals and workmanshp duraton of 1 year, whch duraton begns on date of purchase by customer. Customer s responsble mantanng proof of date of purchase. 2. SmartAVI lmted warranty covers only those defects whch arse as a result of normal use of product, and do not apply to any: a.
