These trend themes will also be in the spotlight at ORGATEC, leading international trade fair for offices and facilities, which will take place from 26th to 30th October in Cologne. The event offers not only the exhibitors' latest developments and solutions, but also an array of supporting programme highlights that will be of special interest to planners. More: 2) viscom frankfurt: Digital Signage Best Practice Award impressive projects: with a high technical standard, creativity and customerorientation, the nominees for the Digital Signage Best Practice Award 2010 demonstrate the great diversity of digital signage applications. The projects are nominated in the five categories Retail Signage, Guiding Signage, Information Signage, Content for Digital Signage and Interactive Signage which reflect the entire range of this young and promising medium. Once again this year the jury consisting of twelve experts also reserves the option to award separate prizes to particularly innovative solutions. Two projects have been nominated for this year's special award. The fourth edition of the Digital Signage Best Practice Award is more international than ever. Companies from all over Europe applied, among others from Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland, Denmark, Israel and Cyprus. The interest in the award as part of the Digital Signage World also demonstrates the great significance accorded to this "fair within the fair". The number of visitors who attended the 50th IFA was equally high. From 3 to 8 September 2010, 235,000 visitors (+5%), among them 125,000 trade visitors (+8%), once again made sure that IFA lived up to its reputation as the world s biggest and most important trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances. At 3.5 billion euros (+9 %), the volume of orders placed by the retail trade exceeded last year s figures. The normally quiet summer holiday season has seen an unprecedented surge in new bookings, leaving the show s floorplan with only a handful of stands remaining despite the addition of two further halls since the 2010 event. Mike Blackman, Managing Director, Integrated Systems Events, comments: Little more than a month ago, we felt certain that our expansion into Halls 6 and 9 of the Amsterdam RAI would be enough to cater for the increase in exhibitor demand by comparison with However, even in those two new halls, very few spaces now remain unsold. Blackman attributes the rush of new exhibitor interest in ISE 2011 to a number of factors. The first half of the year has been a strong one for the AV business generally and optimism levels along the whole industry value chain have risen, he says. In parallel with the healthy business climate, we are also seeing large numbers of manufacturers entering our market with new products, for which ISE 2011 will be the perfect global launch platform. And, on top of that, many of our existing exhibitors have enlarged the stand space they occupy some by as much as 100%. Integrated Systems Europe 2011 will take place at the Amsterdam RAI, Netherlands, from 1 3 February More: 5) Mitsubishi Electric: First OLED Screen in Large Display Format The first screen of its kind, the Diamond Vision OLED, measuring 8.8sqm (3.84 m (w) by 2.3 m (h)) with a depth of just 9.9cm, has been installed at the material Research Center recently opened by the chemical and pharmaceutical company Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany. The new technology is a pioneering step forward, using organic light emitting diodes (OLED) as a light source, which due to its structure and composition is fully scalable and can be arranged into flexible forms and shapes. The 'Diamond Vision OLED' screen is located in the lobby of Merck s new research centre. Merck KGaA is one of the leading producers of organic base materials for innovative OLED technology and will use the screen as an information system for presentations and events. It has a resolution of 1,280 x 768 Pixel and weighs around 480kg. The screens deliver a wide viewing angle of approximately ±80degrees vertically and horizontally, while generating a maximum brightness of cd/qm. More:

3 6) HYUNDAI IT: The new H466AT at Total Media 2010 The Korean manufacturer will introduce its full line-up of indoor and outdoor digital signage displays on booth no. 5 from 6th to 7th of October at the Total Media 2010 in Madrid ( HYUNDAI IT will show innovative products like the new designed H466AT, a 46" outdoor display. As a new feature this IP 66 conform product is fitted with a transflective LCD panel. This special panel is able to use the sunlight to increase the display's brightness. In combination with the regular backlight the sunlight reflector makes it possible to reach a brightness of up to 3000 cd/qm in case of sunlight ambience is at 80K LUX. Another new feature is the anti-graffiti-protection: A special coating on the display allows an easy removal of colours without any damage of the display's surface. The integrated auto-brightness sensor measures continuously the ambient light and adjusts the panel's brightness according to the ambient lightning conditions. As a result the power consumption will be reduced while the panel's lifetime will be increased. More: 7) projectiondesign returns to Virtual Efficiency Congress Norway s projectiondesign jointly exhibiting at the second Virtual Efficiency Congress as part of the 2010 Joint Virtual Reality Conference being held at Schwabenlandhalle, Fellbach, Germany on Friday, 1 October The event will see the first ever demonstration of the company s flagship F35 wqxga DLP projectors in a stereo visualization configuration. This type of configuration is perfect for bright, large-screen viewing in a range of computer graphics environments such as VR analysis, museums, research, academia, CAVEs and large room presentations. The F35 wqxga features an unprecedented WQXGA resolution, at 2560x1600 pixels for a more realistic display of data. The F35 wqxga stereoscopic solution will be shown alongside the compact active stereoscopic 3D projector, the F10 AS3D. More: 8) Da-Lite: New Multi Format Imager Masking System Da-Lite Screen Company introduces a new addition to its comprehensive line of home theater projection screen options with the launch of the Multi Format Imager masking system. In a response to the home theater market demand for screens that can display optional format choices while maintaining a constant height, Da-Lite s new Multi Format Imager allows for sizes up to 16 wide. With the masking retracted, the native aspect ratio of the Multi Format Imager is Cinemascope (2.35:1). With masking, user can achieve Letterbox (1.85:1), HDTV (1.78:1) and NTSC Video (1.33:1) formats. Da-Lite s Multi Format Imager is standard with Pro-Trim finish, which is a fabric frame covering that aesthetically enhances the appearance of the installation while absorbing light that surrounds the viewing area. More: 9) DNP: High Brightness Supernova 3D The award-winning roster of Supernova front-projection displays from Danish optical screen pioneers, dnp denmark, is about to undergo a further paradigm shift by embracing 3D technology. This follows the successful trial at this summer s InfoComm expo in Las Vegas, where visitors donned active stereo shutter glasses to experience one of the unforgettable moments of the show. They were able to view specially-created 3D content on a huge Supernova Infinity screen, equipped with a 0.8 low gain material to provide unique contrast and horizontal half gain viewing angles. Fed from a Mechdyne Dimensions Media and 3D Server, projected from a Digital Projection TITAN Reference 1080p 3D projector, dnp met their combined goals of providing a highcontrast image with super wide viewing angles in a harsh overhead lighting setting. As dnp Product Manager Johnny Jensen explains, Watching 3D on a dnp Supernova Screen gave viewers a totally active 3D experience, even in a high ambient light environment. More:

This enhanced customer service is ideal for highly demanding industries such as broadcasting and the rental/staging markets. GefenPRO products also feature a more rugged construction and internal power supplies using industry standard AC cords to improve performance in the field. More: 12) Minicom Digital Signage: New Solution DS Vision Digital in Europe Minicom Digital Signage, leading manufacturer of advanced multimedia platforms and media distribution solutions for the Digital Signage industry, is introducing its new solution, DS Vision Digital, in Europe in the next important Digital Signage industry events in Spain and in Germany. In Spain, Minicom Digital Signage is participating to Total Media, along with STI its Spanish Partner, at the IFEMA, in Madrid. More: 13) BrightSign: Two new Digital Sign Controllers with Built-in Wi-Fi BrightSign announced at IBC the HD210w and the HD1010w, two new solid-state media controllers with built-in Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n) capabilities. Designed to speed and simplify signage deployment, BrightSign's HD210w looping sign controller and HD1010w interactive sign controller can be connected to a wireless network without having to install cabling or an adaptor. The new media players are complete, ready-to-use high-definition signage solutions that include the hardware, software and the built-in Wi-Fi tools in a small but rugged steel enclosure that can be easily tucked out of sight. More: 14) beyerdynamic at Orgatec 2010 in Cologne At the Orgatec in Cologne beyerdynamic will demonstrate how state-of-the-art microphone technology can be integrated into conference furniture and how the best sound for video conferences will be made possible. Those, who plan conference rooms today, ideally integrate the required communication and presentation technology into the room and furniture. The new built-in microphone units of the MCS-Digital conference system can be folded away into the table and can be opened when needed. This is enabled by the patented Revoluto technology, which does not need a gooseneck microphone. With the classic Nextel finish in dark black, the microphone units integrate visually into tabletops of different materials. If required, the visible cover plate can be produced in the same colour as the tabletop or provided with an appropriate veneer from the furniture manufacturer. This allows individual and discreet solutions. beyerdynamic will also present the new wireless Stegos boundary microphone and demonstrate how a reliable plug and play solution will look, that can easily be connected to all standard video conference systems. 5 15) WolfVision launches iphone application WolfVision, European manufacturer of high-end Visualizers, has developed an iphone application which is now available at the Apple App Store and can be downloaded free of charge. The application WolfVision Remote Control for iphone / ipod (itunes name is WVRemote) enables the user to control WolfVision Visualizers directly from an iphone or ipod Touch. The WV Remote application delivers the ultimate user experience in controlling WolfVision Visualizers. The intuitive user interface also offers an integrated preview which allows the user to easily view the live feed of the Visualizer. This feature further enhances the user s freedom of movement and direct contact with the audience, as even when distanced from the Visualizer there is no need to check the main display screen by means of the customary glance over the shoulder. The iphone / ipod Touch application, which can control all IP addressable WolfVision Visualizers, is an invaluable tool for users as they benefit from having their very own personal remote control. More: 16) Futuresource Consulting: The Future of Broadcast At the end of last year, over 600 million homes across the globe were connected to cable, satellite or IPTV subscription TV networks, with nearly 200 million set top boxes shipped last year alone, of which over 60% were pay-tv boxes, according to Futuresource Consulting. Although worldwide set top box shipments and the subscriber base will continue to grow during the period under review, revenue growth will decelerate due to market saturation, price competition and the continued impact of the economic climate on consumer spending. As margins shrink, businesses operating at all points along the capture and delivery pipeline will need to focus on greater efficiencies and improved workflow. Now more than ever, investments made within the broadcast industry will need to show a rapid - if not immediate - return on investment.
