1. General information on PERIFON-M 1.1. Application and characteristics PERIFON-M is a fence detection system which analyzes fence noises and which issues intrusion alarms to the control and indicating panel in the event of an alarm. It detects attempts by persons to climb over and penetrate a fence. Recommendations for trouble-free operation: Mesh-wire, steel-weld-mesh or expanded-metal-mesh fence installed in accordance with the specifications, i. e. mechanically stable fence structure and no rattling fence elements (doors) or objects (signs or locks etc.) Professional installation and commissioning of the detection system Plants and vegetation (shrubs and branches etc.) which could cause a disturbance by producing fence noises must be cut back No strong electromagnetic interference sources (transmission systems, radar or high-voltage substations etc.) in the vicinity of the fence The parent company in Munich must be consulted at an early point should you suspect the existence of such interference sources. PERIFON-M consists of the microprocessor-controlled evaluation unit AWE, which is accommodated in the evaluation cabinet, and the cable sensor mounted on the fence. Two alarm zones, each with an alarm zone length of approx. 250 m, can be connected to each evaluation cabinet, see Section 2.2. The cable sensor is attached to the fence by means of cable ties or clips. It detects signals produced when persons attempt to overcome the fence. The evaluation unit evaluates these signals. An intrusion alarm is tripped if specific alarm criteria are reached. PERIFON-M monitors itself. Tampering with the cable sensor or the door of the evaluation cabinet leads to tamper alarms. The detection characteristics for the relevant type of fence can be set separately as an operating mode for alarm zone 1 and alarm zone Other PERIFON-M documentation Product publication: Perimeter Detection System, PERIFON-M, Installation and commissioning instructions, PERIFON-M fence detection system 2. Planning the alarm zones 2.1. Cable sensor The cable sensor is available in reels of 100-m or 300-m length. The end of the cable sensor is connected to a distributor (with terminating resistor), and this distributor is attached to the fence with a plastic cable tie (accessory pack). The cable sensor is secured with plastic cable ties to mesh-wire fences. Special steel clips are used to attach the cable sensor to steelweld-mesh fences of Messrs. ADRONIT. The cable sensor can either be woven into the fence or secured with additional steel cable ties to enhance protection against tampering. The required installation hardware can be determined with the quantity-calculation sheets in Section 11 (enclosures). 3

2.2. Length of the alarm zones Rule: Alarm zones each start and end at fixed fence limits, i. e. fence posts or masonry wall. The longer the alarm zone is, the greater the possible influence of extraneous interference (see Section 1.1). The maximum alarm zone length is determined by the maximum permitted cable length of 300 m. The cable length is the sum of the length of the cable sensors and, if present, the length of the lownoise coaxial cable (see also Sections and 2.4.). On plastic-sheathed fences up to 2.0 m fence height and on fences without plastic sheathing up to approx. 2.5 m fence height, the cable sensor must be laid (singly) along the alarm zone on the fence (Figure 1). Allowing for cable routing (e.g. loops for strain relief or as cable reserve for repairs), the alarm zone length is limited to approx. 250 m. On higher fences up to approx. 5 m fence height, the cable sensor must be laid double along the alarm zone in order to guarantee adequate detection reliability, within the gate leaf as shown in Figure 2. The alarm zone is thus limited to approx. 125 m. Examples of laying in loops app. 20 cm Connection post Alarm zone Alarm zone app. 20 cm Examples of laying in a meandering configuration Fence reinforcement app. 20 cm Figure 1 Examples of laying cable sensors Length of the alarm zones in the case of an evaluation cabinet mounted away from the fence The evaluation cabinet may also be installed away from the fence. It is connected to the cable sensor via the low-noise coaxial cable and a distributor. The total cable length, i. e. the sum of low-noise coaxial cable and cable sensor, may not exceed 300 m. 4

Length of the alarm zones on systems with camera surveillance It is advisable to supplement a PERIFON-M system with a CCTV surveillance system in order to permit false alarms to be distinguished from genuine intrusions. Each alarm zone should be monitored with one camera. The alarm zone lengths of the PERIFON-M system must be matched to the CCTV system. Owing to the restricted field of view of the camera, long alarm zones can generally not be observed entirely. Moreover, the camera s field of view may be reduced by ambient influences, e. g. by fog. The camera s field of view is approx. 50 m to 60 m Gates in the alarm zone Gates which are frequently used should not be secured with PERIFON-M. False alarms may be tripped owing to mechanical stressing of the cable sensor resulting from gate movements at the transition point from fence to gate. Gates which are used infrequently, e. g. emergency access or service gates, may be incorporated in an alarm zone. Figure 2 shows an example of how to lay a cable sensor on a gate and also shows the distributors and cables required for this. Swing gate Low-noise coaxial cable in protective conduit Figure 2 Laying cable sensors on gates 2.4. Low-noise coaxial cable Only the low-noise coaxial cable (Figure 2) may be used for points at which the cable is to pass under gates. A distributor must be attached at each transition point from the low-noise coaxial cable to the cable sensor. A maximum of two cable sensors can be connected to this distributor. 5

3. Evaluation cabinet The evaluation cabinet consists of a splash-proof plastic housing made of polyester with plastic cable entry points performing a strain-relief function and an insert with a motherboard. The motherboard serves to accommodate additional, optional plug-in PC boards. The galvanized sheet-metal insert serves as a subrack and for EMC screening. The following items are also supplied in the accessory pack for the evaluation cabinet: Mounting hardware for attachment to round posts (post diameter up to approx. 60 mm) and mounting hardware for wall mounting of the evaluation cabinet. Note: If using other posts or other post diameters, please select suitable hose clamps from Table 1. 1 ground clamp for connection of the earthing lead from the buried earth electrode or from the earthing network. 3 m earthing lead with cable lugs for connection of the ground clamp to the evaluation cabinet. 3 screen connectors for connection of the signal cable screens. 8 4. Power and signal cables The underground cables should be routed, wherever possible, in such a manner that they emerge from the foundation only directly at the post on which the evaluation cabinet is mounted. They must protected against damage between foundation and evaluation cabinet, e. g. by using protective conduits Power cables The power cables may be looped through from evaluation cabinet to evaluation cabinet if the following conditions are fulfilled: Max. cable diameters When selecting the cables, please note that the following maximum cable diameters may not be exceeded owing to the existing cable lead-throughs (PG glands) of the evaluation cabinet: 6.5 mm-16 mm (PG 16) Terminals in the evaluation cabinet The terminals in the evaluation cabinet are designed for wire cross-sections of maximum 2.5 mm 2. Cables (Technical data, see Section 9) Mains power supply 3x1.5 mm 2 oder 3x2.5 mm 2 DC voltage supply 2x1.5 mm 2 oder 2x2.5 mm 2 (the above mains cables may also be used as an alternative) The local conditions (existing field distributors and cable trenches etc.) are crucial to selection of the cables and the laying method Signal cables Signal cables may be looped through from evaluation cabinet to evaluation cabinet if the following conditions are fulfilled: Connection distributor The evaluation cabinets are generally connected to the control and indicating panel via a ring-configuration, multi-core signal cable. Since distribution is not possible in the evaluation cabinets owing to the limited number of cable lead-throughs, a connection distributor must be provided for each evaluation cabinet. Maximum cable diameters When selecting the cables, please note that the following maximum cable diameters may not be exceeded owing to the existing cable lead-throughs (PG glands) of the evaluation cabinet: 9.0 mm-20 mm (PG 21) Terminals in the evaluation cabinet The terminals in the evaluation cabinet are designed for wire cross-sections of maximum 1.5 mm 2. Cables (Technical data, see Section 9) Use screened telecommunications cable. Wire diameters of 0.8 mm are conventional. Wire diameters of 0.6 mm are not recommended. See Section 5 for the number of wires. The local conditions (existing field distributors and cable trenches etc.) are crucial to selection of the cables and the laying method. 8

5. Signal transmission to an alarm control and indicating panel, number of signal cable wires required The number of wires required for evaluation cabinets depends on the allocation of intrusion alarm signals, tamper alarm signals, audio signals and control inputs and can be determined with the aid of Figure 3. One core pair is recommended for each signal mode per alarm zone. The alarms Tamper 1 and Tamper 2 and the door contact may also be combined to form one common Tamper alarm. 6. Power supply The power supply module fitted in the evaluation cabinet is designed for mains or DC voltage power supply. Mains voltage 230 V AC +6 %/ 30 %, 50/60 Hz, approx. 5 VA power consumption or 115 V AC +6 %/ 30 %, 50/60 Hz, approx. 5 VA power consumption DC voltage 10 V DC to 33 V DC, max. 1,5 W power consumption 6.1. Mains power supply In the case of the mains power supply lines in particular, it must be ensured that the applicable local regulations are observed, in particular in the case of protective earthing, line cross-sections, equipment fuses, cable laying configurations and connections of the evaluation cabinets (see also Section 7). It is advisable to include an uninterruptible power supply in planning if supply systems are highly unstable (high mains voltage fluctuations) DC voltage power feeding of several evaluation units via one double-core supply cable Please allow for the following aspects in the case of emergency power feeding of the evaluation units via a common power feeding line: The supply system must be designed such that adequate supply voltage is applied to the evaluation unit at the end of the chain, even in cases of emergency power supply during the entire emergency supply period. The battery final cut-off voltage of the buffered mains supply must be allowed for as a criterion and the maximum possible power consumption of the evaluation units during start-up must be allowed for at the design stage Definitions AWE 1...n Evaluation unit 1...n L 1...n Length of the connecting line between the evaluation units in km U 0 Output voltage of the DC voltage source U 1 DC voltage at evaluation unit 1 I Maximum current consumption of an evaluation unit, I = 0.15 A K-Value K = I x R L R L Line resistance (two-core), see Table 2 9

Conditions for permitted operation of the evaluation unit U 1 10 V DC If this condition is not observed when calculating on the basis of Formula 1, either the wire cross-section must be increased or the number of evaluation units connected to the supply cable must be reduced. and U 0 max 33.0 V DC This maximum supply voltage may not be exceeded since, otherwise, the evaluation unit will be damaged Calculation example for a DC voltage power feeding Initial situation: 3 evaluation units Supply from an uninterruptible 24 V power supply (UPS) Telephone line with diameter 0.8 mm (double-core) Arrangement, see Figure 5 DC voltage source Double-core supply cable (diameter = 0.8 mm) U 0 = 22,3 V AWE 3 AWE 2 AWE 1 U 1 L 3 = 0,2 km L 2 = 0,1 km L 1 = 0,05 km Figure 5 Example of DC voltage power feeding In this case, we obtain the following from Formula 1: U 1 = U 0 K (L 1 + 2xL 2 + 3xL 3 ) with U 0, K, L 1 from Sections to and values for L from Figure 5, we consequently obtain: U 1 = 22.3 V V ( x x0.2) U 1 = 22.3 V V x0.85 = 22.3 V 9.31 V U 1 = 13 V Result: The conditions for permitted operation of the evaluation units U 1 10 V and U 0max 33.0 V are observed. 11

7. Earthing 7.1. Protective earthing Each evaluation unit must be connected to a PE system by the PE conductor for mains supply pursuant to local regulations. Protective earthing in accordance with regulations must be used in each evaluation cabinet in the case of connections to supply systems without PE wire! 7.2. Functional earthing of the evaluation cabinet In general, functional earthing of the evaluation cabinet on the fence post with the installation hardware supplied in the accessory pack will suffice. Special earthing measures are required only on alarm zones in the vicinity of which there could be electromagnetic interference for instance as specified in Section 1. Please refer to the Installation and Commissioning instructions for the PERIFON-M fence detection system for examples of such additional earthing measures. The planning engineer must stipulate the project-specific earthing measures. This may require additional installation hardware, such as four-wire connectors, connection terminals or earthing wires etc. Please refer to the quantity-calculation sheets in the Annex for an overview of materials. 8. Overvoltage protection 8.1. Evaluation cabinet All inputs and outputs of the signals and the power supply cables to the evaluation cabinet must be protected against overvoltage resulting from lightning strike (overvoltage arresters and varistors) Alarm control and indicating panel The overvoltage protection requirements dependent on the relevant control and indicating panel must be met for the inputs and outputs of the signals and for the power supply. 12
