2 Research Experience Graduate Research Assistant Present Advisor: Prof P. P. Vaidyanathan DSP Group, Caltech Sparse Sampling and Spectral Estimation: Developed new sparse (sub-nyquist) sampling strategies such as nested and coprime in 1 and multiple dimensions for estimation of the autocorrelation lags at the Nyquist rate, leading to spectral estimation with higher resolution. Proved new results on coprimality of integer matrices arising as a result of such sampling strategies in 2 dimensions. Sparse Arrays for Direction of Arrival Estimation (DOA): Proposed nested and coprime arrays of sensors based on the preceding sampling strategy to perform DOA estimation of O(N 2 ) sources using only O(N) physical sensors. Also, extended the approach to the case when higher order statistics of the signal are considered. Correlation Aware Sparse Support Recovery: Drawing insights from the proposed spectral estimation framework, we proposed correlation aware techniques for the recovery of sparse support in Multiple Measurement Vector (MMV) problems demonstrating that the recovered support can be orders of magnitude more than that achieved by existing approaches. In particular, if s is the sparsity level (number of non zero entries) that is guaranteed to be recovered using existing approaches, then our approach can recover sparsity levels as large as O(s 2 ). Summer Intern June-October, 2012 Advisor: Dr. Henrique Malvar Microsoft Research, Redmond, WA. Worked on the problem of dereverberation of speech in noisy environment. Undergraduate Summer Intern May-July, 2006 Advisor: Dr. Urbashi Mitra University of Southern California, CA. Worked on algorithms for Channel Estimation in multi-hop sensor networks employing both encodeand-forward and amplify-and-forward schemes for joint sensing and communication.
