5 About the User Manual This user manual describes the operation of the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD Director Monitor. The user manual is split into two sections. Section one is the user guide, in which the reader is introduced to the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD Director Monitor and its operation. The various control options are described. A guide to installation of the system is given. Section two is the technical section, the system specifications, dimensions and interfaces are described. 6 Introduction to the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD Director Monitor The Ultra-ViewRF 8HD Director Monitor is a Standard Definition and High definition MPEG2 microwave wireless video receiver / decoder LCD monitor system. The Ultra-ViewRF 8HD that has been designed specifically for the Television, Film and Video Production industry and is the ideal tool for receiving transmissions from many commonly used 5.8GHz COFDM DVB-T MPEG-2 SD/HD video transmitters. Operating in the 5.8Ghz spectrum and equipped with diversity antennas for optimum receive performance, the Ultra ViewRF 8HD is the ideal confidence monitoring tool. The Ultra-ViewRF 8HD has a 7 inch native high definition screen, and is powered from industry standard V-mount style IDX Li-Ion batteries. For longer deployments the Ultra ViewRF 8HD can also be powered from a cable interface with standard 4 pin XLR connector. User operation of the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD is made simple by the ability to store and recall up to 64 preset channels, stored in 8 user selectable banks. All 64 preset channels are accessible from the front panel button interface. Additionally a powerful on screen display Spectrum Analyzer function is provided to enable users to quickly diagnose RF problems. Programming of the 64 channels is easily performed using the user software provided with Ultra-ViewRF 8HD. The Ultra-ViewRF 8HD is provided with HD/SD-SDI and CVBS video outputs for connection to larger displays, as well as analog audio outputs for monitoring. Ultra-ViewRF 8HD can be simply hand carried using the hand grips provided, or tripod / stand mounted via the ¼ -20 or 3/8-16 threaded base. Ultra-ViewRF 8HD Director Monitor

9 Mounting the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD Director Monitor The Ultra-ViewRF 8HD is designed for mounting in the VER standard handle system. The Ultra-ViewRF 8HD has bottom ¼ -20 and 3/8-16 tapped screw holes for general purpose mounting on tripods, C-Stands or clamp-on brackets as well as 2 threaded screws top and bottom for attaching handles.

10 Front Panel Operation The Ultra-ViewRF 8HD Director Monitor is controlled using the front panel buttons. These are shown below. 11 Mode BANK Video Mode Press once Bank Select Mode. Displays a list of enabled banks. There are a maximum of 8 banks that can be displayed. The currently used bank is highlighted. Pressing Bank will increment the selected Bank in the list. Repeated presses will cycle the list of enabled banks. This menu is exited by pressing the SRV button. Banks are enabled or disabled in the MENU screen. Bank Service Select Mode Press once Bank Select Mode. Displays a list of enabled banks. There are a maximum of 8 banks that can be displayed. The currently used bank is highlighted. Pressing Bank will increment the selected Bank in the list. Repeated presses will cycle the list of enabled banks. This menu is exited by pressing the SRV button. Banks are enabled or disabled in the MENU screen. Service button 1 to 8 Service Select Mode Press once Selects the service indicated on the screen alongside the button.

12 Mode of Operation Video Mode This is the standard mode of operation, in this mode the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD is active and will be displaying video for the service/ frequency for which it is tuned to. There will be no text on the screen. This is the mode the unit will enter when first powered on. There are two choices for Video Mode.

13 1) Director Mode (standard default mode). In director mode the screen is driven with a composite video signal. 2) SDI Mode (for users requiring higher resolution video on the screen). In SDI mode the screen is driven with an SDI signal, and will show higher resolutions. Users operating in this mode may observe slight delays as they move through menus and change channels. Users can select between Director mode and SDI mode in the Menu Screen.

14 Mode of Operation Menu Screen Pressing the Menu button when in Video mode will display the Menu screen as shown below. The Menu Screen has five possible user selections. Selection 1 Director Mode Director Mode is the standard default mode. In director mode the screen is driven with a composite video signal. See Video mode section for further explanation. Selection 2 SDI Mode SDI Mode should be selected by users requiring higher resolution video on the screen. In SDI mode the screen is driven with an SDI signal, and will show higher resolutions. See Video mode section for further explanation. Selection 3 Bank Enable Selecting the Bank Enable will display the screen shown below. This screen allows users to edit which of the eight channel banks are enabled and available for users. By default all eight banks (and corresponding 64 channels are enabled). A bank can be toggled between enabled and disabled by pressing the associated button.

15 Selection 4 LCD Menu Selecting the LCD menu button provides users with full access to the LCD control functions such as brightness, contrast, format etc. The LCD menu is shown below. The LCD menu will disappear automatically after 5 seconds if no key is pressed. The LCD menu is navigated by the keys shown in green, the SEL (select), - and + (adjusting values, or moving through menus) and Menu to exist LCD mode.

16 Selection 5 HP Vol Selecting the HP Vol button allows users to adjust the headphone volume using the +/- keys.

17 Mode of Operation OSD Display Mode Pressing the OSD button will place the unit in on screen display mode. In this mode the screen will display parameters describing the received RF signal, as shown below. Data should be interpreted as follows. Input Level A / B = Signal level on Antenna A / B -20 to -50dB = Strong signal -50 to -85dB = Normal Signal -85 to -95 = weak Signal SNR A / B = Signal Noise Ratio A/B > 15dB = Good Quality Signal 15 to 8dB = Normal Signal <8dB = Poor Quality Signal Please Note, high input levels, with poor SNR is a good indication of interference in the signal, users are advised to change frequency.

18 Users requiring further RF status can access a spectrum display for the received RF spectrum by further selecting the Spectrum A or Spectrum B options. In this mode a representation of the received spectrum on a blue panel overlaid on the received video (as shown in the photo below). The spectrum and associated data allows the user to diagnose RF reception problems. The Spectrum display can be removed from the screen by pressing the OSD button again.

19 Mode of Operation Service Select Mode Pressing the SRV button when in Video mode will display the Service Select Screen as shown below. In Service Select Mode the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD will display up to 64 predefined service names on the screen. These are displayed in groups of 8. A group of 8 services is referred to as a bank. Users wishing to change from one bank to another should see the section titled bank select mode. A service is selected and loaded by simply pressing the button associated with the service (the button will illuminate to indicate the selected service), buttons are labelled 1 to8. Users can exit from Service select mode back to video mode by pressing the SRV button.

20 Ultra-ViewRF 8HD Director Monitor Mode of Operation Bank Select Mode Users can enter bank select mode in two ways. From video mode by pressing the Bank button, or from service select mode by pressing the bank button. Bank select mode allows the user to change which is the current group of eight services available for selection. There are 8 banks in total, giving a 64 services. When in bank select mode the screen below is displayed. Pressing the BANK button increments the set of displayed service names by 8, from services 1..8 to services This continues to the final bank of services Banks that have been deliberately disabled by the user will not appear in the list effectively reducing the number of services names available for selection (see earlier Bank Enable section). The currently selected service and bank are highlighted in the text.

21 PC Control Application Services are programmed into the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD by using the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD control application provided with the product. The Ultra-ViewRF 8HD control application should be loaded on a suitable PC. The PC requires a PC with an RS 232 Comm port. The Comm port should be connected to the Ultra- ViewRF 8HD using the control cable provided. The Control Cable should be connected to the Ultra- ViewRF Data port shown below. Connect control cable to PC here.

22 Start the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD application. The window shown below should be displayed on the PC. Step 1) Select the appropriate Com port that the control cable is connected to the PC on eg COM1. Step 2) The software will read back the current settings in the Ulta-View and fill in the table. Step 3) Modify any settings that need to change. Step 4) Press apply. Step 5) Wait 4 seconds while the changes are applied.

24 Software Upgrades to The Ultra-ViewRF 8HD Software upgrades are performed using the VE boot loader application that can be found on the CD supplied with the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD. Install the VE boot loader application on a PC with a serial port connection to the Ultra-ViewRF 8HD, using the cable provided.
