9 Load Types The 458 is a thyristor dimmer and can control most load types including: incandescent lamps; low-voltage halogen lamps with conventional and dimmable electronic transformers; mains halogen lamps; and neon lamps with conventional and dimmable electronic transformers. The table below shows the compatible load types and the minimum and maximum power per channel. This table should be used as a guide only. Always refer to the manufacturer s data for load capacities and dimming compliancy. Load Min. per channel Max. per channel (see note 3) Incandescent lamps / 230 V (mains) halogen lamps 25 W 2300 W Low-voltage tungsten halogen wire-wound transformer 50 VA 2300 VA (see notes 1 & 2) Dimmable cold cathode wire-wound transformer 50 VA 2300 VA Leading-edge electronic transformers for low voltage See notes 1 and 2 halogen lamps Leading-edge electronic transformers for See notes 1 and 2 dimmable cold cathode Note 1: Note 2: Note 3: Note 4: For other load types, refer to manufacturer s data. Transformers must be approved for dimming use by the transformer manufacturer. We recommend lamp loading of the transformer to no more than 80% of the nominal transformer power, unless otherwise specified by the transformer manufacturer. For example, a 500 VA transformer should not be loaded to more than 400 W of lamp load. In addition, the transformer has to be shortcircuit proof on the secondary side, or it must be equipped with thermal protection on the primary side. The thermal protection is to be non-resettable or manually resettable only. Maximum load for a pair of channels supplied from the same MCB is 10 A (2300 VA at 230 V supply voltage). Doc. 12 3.3. Make Necessary Control Connections SDIM Touch Panel Power Override DALI Power TERM B SCN 0V A + -/ 0V OVR + Link DA+ DA- Link for termination Close for Override Link for DALI power Figure 9: Control Connections Use the cable sleeving (supplied) to provide an extra layer of insulation between the S-DIM, TouchPanel and Override low voltage signal wires and other wiring. S-DIM If connecting to an Imagine system, plug-in the connector of the SDIM cable loom to the SDIM terminals. This is attached to the DIN-rail inside the chassis. Refer to the 458Mx Chassis Installation Guide for more details. If the dimmer is at the end of the S-DIM cable, wire a link between the TERM and B connections of the S-DIM terminals to enable the cable termination. TouchPanel You can supply one TouchPanel from the TouchPanel power connection terminal. Override If you wish to provide output level override functionality, wire a switch between the /0V and OVR terminals of the SDIM connector. Switch closure sets the light output of all dimmer channels to the override level. DALI If connecting to a Digidim system, use the DA+ and DA- terminals of the DALI connector. If the built-in 250mA DALI power supply is required, wire between the + and Power Link terminals of the DALI connector to provide DALI power (see Figure 9). REMEMBER THAT YOU CANNOT EXCEED THE DALI POWER SUPPLY OF 250mA Check connections Check that all the necessary connections have been made correctly and securely. Step 4 Replace Cover and Power Up the Unit 1. Replace the cover, using the original screws. (Screw size = M4x6). 2. Power up the dimmer unit by switching on the MCBs. 3. Check that the display screen on the Control Panel lights up and the dimmer channel levels appear. Doc. No Page 10 Issue 2 (27/5/2009)

At or below the switch off level, the channel will be off. For example, if the switch on level is 50%, and the signal rises to this level or above to turn the channel on, then if the signal falls to 40% or below, the channel turns off. By default on the dimmer: When hysteresis is on and the signal rises to 2%, the lighting for that channel turns on; when it falls to 0%, the channel turns off. When hysteresis is off and the signal rises to 2%, the lighting for that channel turns on; when it falls to 1%, the channel turns off. Hysteresis is off by default and the switch on level is set in the Minimum Level menu of the Control Panel (or set at the router). HYSTERESIS Channel Off 3À X Figure 28: Hysteresis Doc.
