In addition to the usual concens aound ou negotiations, the big issues in the Black Book and Location Manage negotiations will evolve aound Pension and Health benefits and New Media. HOFF PUBLISHED IN THE DETROIT NEWS, PRIL 4, 2018 T oday maks the 50th annivesay of the tagic assassination of the Rev. Matin Luthe King J., a man who stands foeve tall as one of the geatest leades in U.S. histoy. I m in Memphis today, whee King was mudeed, with my fellow Teamstes, othe union membes, civil ights leades and social justice activists to emembe the life of a man who was an icon not only fo fican-meicans, but all who faced injustice, including the woking poo. Many may not know that King was in Memphis at that time because he was advocating fo stik- ing Memphis waste wokes who faced unsafe woking conditions and low pay. Two months ealie, two city sanitation wokes had died when the vehicle they woked on malfunctioned and killed them. The Reveend made it clea in his famous I ve Been to the Mountaintop speech, deliveed the night befoe his death, that he was sue justice would come fo all those disenfanchised, just not sue when. I just want to do God s will, he said that night. nd He s allowed me to go up to the mountain, and I ve looked ove. nd I ve seen the Pomised Land. The union, when my fathe was its pesident, joined the Mach on Washington, povided financial suppot to King and the civil ights movement and paticipated in actions acoss the nation. Viola Liuzzo, wife of a Teamstes Local 247 business agent, gave he life in 1965 standing up against hate. King knew that civil ights and labo ights wee one and the same. Social justice and economic justice go hand in hand. In 1968, Memphis sanitation wokes eaned so little that many wee on welfae and food stamps. Does that sound familia? It should! Today, millions of meican wokes need govenment assistance to make ends meet. It s nothing shot of a disgace! The U.S. is the ichest county in the wold, but ou wokes need food stamps to feed thei families. This has to change. Now is the time fo elected officials to listen to the demands of woking people. In 2016, two of the 1968 stikes came to the Teamstes 29th Intenational Convention to tell thei stoies about how they and this union stood togethe in an effot to bing dignity and espect to the wokplace. Fifty yeas ago, they woe I m Man placads, the same ones wokes will wea today. One of those gentlemen, lvin Tune, died last Septembe. But the lessons he shaed with thousands of union bothes and sistes that day still esonate. The Teamstes will continue the fight fo justice in Memphis and acoss the nation going fowad. That s how this union will hono the memoy of King beyond today s impotant emembances. The Memphis stikes did eventually pevail in thei fight. But the stuggle fo sanitation wokes, both in Memphis and elsewhee, continues. Half a centuy late, the Teamstes ae standing with waste wokes fighting fo wokplace safety, because these jobs ae still the most dangeous in the nation. 3 IN LOS NGELES BY MTTHEW KLEKNER Snowfall is a damatic seies that centes on the cack epidemic that swept though Los ngeles in the ealy 1980 s. Much like The Wie and Taffic, it s a spawling naative that spans multiple geneations and stoylines.the thee main stoy acs eside in South Cental Los ngeles, East Los ngeles/boyle Heights and I like to say to get to the wold of Snowfall you have to peel the onion back multiple layes to get to whee we eside, says Location Manage Bian O Neill. On a show like this we don t eally live in the standad filming wold. We don t often shoot in high falutin estauants o big, beautiful, Bevely Hills mansions, he continues. Ealy on it was just myself fo the fist month doing some boad stokes and scouting of the neighbohoods. Once we naowed them down, we stated going doo-to-doo to find whee these chaactes would live and if these neighbohoods ae ok with us potentially filming thee fo the next five yeas. The stoy ac is a five-season plan if all goes well. The stoy of Snowfall stats in the summe of 1983 and what most people don t emembe is that Compton was just anothe subub at the time. Things wee actually petty good thee, pecisely because the cack epidemic hadn t decimated it yet. Just Google 1983 Los ngeles and take a look at the pictues. Thity-five yeas ago, things wee dastically diffeent than today. It is only 1983, but we might as well be ceating 1940, Says O Neill. In 83 people didn t have thei yads fenced off o bas on thei windows. In 1986, 87, 88, when the neighbohood stated to take a tun fo the wose, that s when all the secuity bas wee put on people s houses and fences went up aound thei yads. In many of the neighbohoods whee we shoot, we actually take down (and put up) all thei fences and bas evey time we come and go doesn t seem like too long ago, but evey- the jungles of Nicaagua. s the seasons pogess, the stoylines convege, and the show spins an elaboate web that spans the entie city. The stoy of Snowfall follows thee individual chaactes, but the neighbohoods in which they live play a lage ole in the stoy. s chaactes develop, so too do the neighbohoods. thing fom the steet signs to advetising signs had to be coveed eveywhee they went. Thee ae also all the moden inventions like DiecTV dishes, which pop up all ove the neighbohood. So many things we take fo ganted evey day, simply didn t exist 30 yeas ago. nd then thee ae the pictue cas. simple walk and talk down the steet takes multiple blocks of us cleaing the steet to put ou peiod cas on the oad. nd in most neighbohoods, when we come in to clea thei cas off the steet, they want to put them in thei diveways. But we can t even have them in thei diveways, so we have to find altenative paking lots. We have a shuttle system to get neighbos to pak in altenative places all ove the city, says O Neill. That s always a challenge wheeve you go, says Tanspotation Coodinato Caig Fehman. You have to hide the company out of sight and you have to clea the steets of all the moden-day cas and tucks. Finding places to pak huge companies and big equipment is eally a challenge nowadays, adds Fehman. ll the lots that we would nomally pak at ae gone now. That s a challenge fo Locations, but they do a geat job on the show find- ing us places to pak. They ve also povided us with good secuity and hied local neighbohood liaisons to help us manage and wok with the neighbohood envionment, says Fehman. South and East Los ngeles ae not known as hot beds of filming activity. These ae neighbohoods that ae not used to a big company olling in and changing things aound and impacting thei daily lives. Gaining access and tust equied a goup effot to lock down entie neighbohoods and get eveyone on boad with shaing in the s h o w s c e a t i ve vision. I have a vey divese cew fom all diffeent backgounds fom all diffeent neighbohoods, says O Neill. Eveyone was excited that we wee coming to town, that we wee going to potay thei neighbohood. They know we ae not thee to exploit thei community, says O Neill. We eached out to the City Council. We eached out to the LPD. We have a numbe of community liaisons and involvement with the local chuches. We e woking with all of them, he continues. Snowfall shoots in these neighbohoods egulaly and they didn t want to behave like some othe shoots that come and go quickly and leave a wake of tash o negative sentiments behind them. They made evey effot to infom and include the neighbohoods. We give back as much as we can, says O Neill. Just last week we had a Food Tuck Fiday. We bought out a whole bunch of food tucks fo one of ou neighbohoods in South L.. and we ween t even filming thee. This wasn t fo the cew, it was fo the neighbohood to come out and enjoy. It was a Thank You fom us. We also invited a whole bunch of the neighbohoods to ou pemiee last yea and thee s a sense of pide that we e seeing now in season 2. We e also tying to institute an intenship poject this yea with the folks fom the neighbohoods we film in, that s both East L.. and South L.. That s still in its infancy but we e hoping to ty to open the wold of filmmaking to the people in those neighbohoods. When Snowfall was initially budgeted they planned on being on stage two o thee days pe episode. When you shoot 8 days pe episode, those days on stage allow Locations and Tanspotation to catch thei beath, get caught up, and get pepped fo the next episode. That was the initial plan at least, but Snowfall often doesn t confom to the noms of episodic filmmaking. We e beginning Episode 6 of this season and we ve had, I think, thee days on stage in all six episodes, and two of them wee patial stage days as we moved out to a location at the end of the day, says O Neill. I like to say we e out ten out of eight days, he continues. We have multiple locations many days and we pobably shoot 15 locations within an episode. It s a vey busy show, acknowledges Fehman. T.V. has sot of evolved into a smalle footpint, says Fehman. It s just easie to wok since we have to move almost evey night and sometimes make multiple moves duing the day. Smalle 10 tons ae the main equipment fo gip, electic and camea depatments. It s just an easie way to tavel and it makes it a lot easie fo the diffeent depatments to access thei equipment, since the smalle tucks can pak close. It s just a good fomula fo shooting a show like this. When you tavel smalle you can accomplish moe. s a 41-yea vetean of Local 399, Caig is no stange to woking in challenging envionments. s a Tanspotation Coodinato he s coodinated lage pojects like Hunge Games. Fo the bette pat of the past ten yeas, a lot of his wok has taken him out of town thoughout the county, to places like Texas, Viginia, New Oleans, Oklahoma, Mississippi and tlanta, to name a few. You meet a lot of geat people and have a lot of geat expeiences. But when it comes to the pue pofessional and knowledgeable wok foce, thee s no place like home, says Fehman. Obviously we e a smalle footpint than a big featue, but in T.V. you e basically pepping a small featue evey episode. So, thee s always a new scout, anothe meeting, o new equipment to deal with. On a featue you have a little bit longe to pep but you get all that stuff done pio to shooting. Sue, thee s going to be changes duing you shoot on a featue, but you have a set schedule that you e tying to stick to. In T.V. it s a new schedule evey eight days and new things to figue out. It helps that the studio and the poduces undestand what it takes to do a show like this on location. They tust them and give them the esouces they need to do the job. If you e hiing and laying off guys and finding new equipment evey week that can be a challenge. So, it can be a little bit of a pain in that espect. It s nice to have a oste full of expeienced help to pull fom, says Fehman. But this show is a little bit diffeent than nomal because we ae out evey single day. They ve allowed me to keep my coe goup with me the whole time and they ae all doing a geat job. So that makes it a little bit nice and easie fo me athe than having to cut back when we e on stage and lay off all my cew fo a couple of days and then ehie my cew late. I cay basically thity-five full time Dives. So, it s geat and it s nice fo them too because they know they ve got a fulltime job and they don t have to go looking fo a diffeent show evey couple of days, says Fehman. Captain Dave Moison is doing a geat job fo me. I sot of leave all the daily wok of the set to him. He does the daily poduction end of it. It s nice to have the capability of being able to ely on guys you know who can do the job without micomanaging eveybody. The Locations depatment is well staffed as well, caying anywhee between 10 and 15 people at a time. You know I ve got a vey lage team and they e geat at making this happen fom day to day. It s the most difficult and challenging job I ve been a pat of in my caee, says O Neill. The wok Bian and his Locations team did on Season 1 did not go unnoticed and they wee awaded the best OneHou TV Location Team of the Yea and best TV One-Hou Location Manage of the Yea by the Califonia On-Location wads. I was eally excited to see my team win because they deseve all the cedit. nd it was nice to be acknowledged as an individual but without the team I don t exist. I spend moe of my days in the van scouting fo the next episode and just tying to manage the poblems that aise on a daily basis. I like to say a good day in Locations on set is one whee nobody needs to call fo Locations. PGE 5 I m just the quateback. I just get to sit thee and thow the ball out to them and let them go to wok, which they do amazingly! I m only as good as the people I have aound me and I ve got some of the best and talented location pos aound me. Snowfall, got off to a ocky stat. The initial pilot fo the seies was thown out by the Netwok, FX, and a new cew was bought in fo a majo ovehaul of the poject. FX knew they had something special on thei hands and they wanted to see this poject though. FX applied fo a tax Incentive fo Snowfall while the poject was still in the pilot stage and as the final iteation of the pilot took shape, Snowfall was ganted a $4.9 million tax cedit towads its fist season. Shotly afte aiing, FX quickly picked up the poject fo a second season and thei faith in the poject was ultimately ewaded when the incentives wee enewed as well. I did the second pilot and we always had the idea that as soon as we finished the pilot we wee going to go staight into the seies. You know, nothing s eve a guaantee. I think we took thee to fou weeks off and we stated the seies, says Fehman. I have shot a lot out of Califonia and I would say the tax incentive came at a geat time fo eveybody, says O Neill. nd on a pesonal note the tax incentive came ight about when my son was bon. So, it has let me be home fo the fist two and a half yeas his life. If I have to leave befoe he gets up I can usually see him befoe he goes to sleep, o vice vesa, but to not have to be in a hotel each night is a geat thing and I m eally hoping we get a enewal fo anothe bunch of yeas to keep filming hee. It s nice in the espect that most eveybody that you hie ae expeienced and they know what they e doing, says Fehman. It makes my job easie. When I m out of town I neve know what the cew is going to be like and thee s always some good, some bad. When you ae in L.. thee s not a million questions and thee s not the whole leaning expeience of telling someone what they need to do. You know, they just don t get the same quality of wok out of the distant hie cews as they do in L.. It s always nice to get back home and make a phone call to someone, and say, Hey I need you to do this, and they do it. I did a show in tlanta last yea and when I showed up on the studio lot I was supised by how many people I knew. So many people had tansplanted thee o had been thee fo quite some time. Unfotunately, because that s whee the wok was, especially in Featues. Featues ae still catching up hee in L.. It s pedominantly a T.V. diven town. So, if featue wok is you fote, then you had to be out of town. That s had, but that s the eality of it. Thee ae moe featues coming back now, and the incentives have had a geat impact. They ve definitely tuned this town aound, says Fehman.

4 WOMEN IN TRNSPORTTION STRONG. FOCUSED. DETERMINED. HRDWORKING. When we think of ou Teamste Local 399 Sistes, thee ae a few wods that immediately come to mind. Embaking on a caee in the Entetainment Industy can be one that demands a lot fom not only a Membe as an individual, but also the fiends and families that suppot them. It is a tough Industy with long hous and many demands in the vaious Cafts. Since its oigin, Local 399 has been fighting to elevate the standad of living and gains fo all of ou Membes. Expanding on the had wok of ou Retiees and ou past Local Leades. Unions as a whole have played, and continue to play, a huge ole in closing the gende pay gap and leveling the playing field fo all wokes to be paid a fai wage fo a long day s wok. That being said, we ae constantly eminded that we still have a long way to go to ceate equal oppotunities fo all wokes in all wokplaces. TEMSTER LOCL 399 SISTER: Kim Latina TRNSPORTTION COORDINTOR Teamste 18 Yeas If you have a goal and something you want to accomplish in this Industy, it is all possible. These wods of wisdom ae shaed by Tanspotation Coodinato Kim Latina. Kim has been a Membe of Teamstes Local 399 fo ove 18 yeas. Though female Tanspotation Coodinatos in the Industy ae few and fa between, Kim stesses the impotance of seeking out oppotunities to gow in you caft to get to whee you want to be in the Industy. Kim is no stange to the Entetainment Industy. He fathe was Stephen Latina who also woked in the Industy as a Tanspotation Coodinato. Kim s oiginal plan was to wok in the Industy as an Edito. Though she went to college to become one, and was gateful fo the oppotunity to take an intenship whee she was able to sit in on an actual editing bay on a show, it was hee that she eassessed he caee path unsue of whethe editing was the path she wanted to pusue. I m a social peson and I like to be out and about and being stuck in a dak oom fo many hous was not what I wanted to do when it came time to see what the job actually entailed. I was still going to college and continuing my education when it came up that 399 was into Pemits, Tanspotation Coodinato Tom Thomas said to my dad and to the cew on CSI that maybe we should have Kim get he days to have something to fall back on. I got my days and I woked a bit when I was a Goup 3 but not much. s the Industy stated to get a bit busie and I became a Goup 2, I stated woking moe and ealized that this line of wok was what I eally wanted to do. I enjoyed diving a van, meeting new people eveyday, being outdoos, and woking in diffeent locations. That s when I fell in love with this caee. The pocess of Kim moving up to wok as a Coodinato was We chose to featue Women In Tanspotation in this Membe Spotlight because the numbes of ou Local 399 Sistes ae dispopotional compaed to Bothes in this line of wok. That does not in any way weaken ou stong Teamste Sistes that have made exceptional caees in the Entetainment Industy. We talked with 4 of ou Local 399 Sistes woking in Tanspotation to hea about thei caees thus fa, thei pathway to embaking in the Industy, as well as lean fom each of them by way of thei sound advice fo anyone seeking a caee in this Industy. We believe ou entie Membeship is made stonge by highlighting accomplished individuals so that we can lean fom thei expeience and advice. When the Wite s Stike happened, wok was definitely uncetain and Tom Thomas bought me into the office afte the stike had settled and said I think we should put you on as a Captain. Ou Captain at the time was doing something in San Fancisco and wasn t going to be able to make it back. I had neve eally thought about moving up but he told me, tust me, you e eady, you e going to be okay. I took his wod fo it. He was a huge pat of my caee. Kim continued to wok with Tom on CSI even afte he Fathe moved onto anothe poduction. Late down the oad, as Tom pepaed to etie, he woked with Kim to take ove his ole as Coodinato when he left. The last 2-3 yeas that Tom was active in the Industy, he goomed Kim and taught he the steps necessay to be a Coodinato. I was vey fotunate to be in the ight place at the ight time and having someone that could look ove my shoulde fo yeas to teach me. Many people don t get that oppotunity. When he stepped out and etied I stepped in. I was aleady doing the wok, I just didn t have the title yet. The biggest diffeence Kim mentioned between Captaining and Coodinating is that when Coodinating, you ae solely esponsible fo the budget and how the money is spent. s a Captain, Kim was dealing mostly with Dives, howeve with Coodinating you ae woking close with the Poduces and the accounting depatment basically the people in the office veses the people in the field. I pefe Coodinating fo a couple easons. I enjoy the papewok pat of the job, budgeting and woking with numbes. I enjoy the challenges of putting togethe the ight equation to make the show wok o function popely. It s definitely whee I feel I should be. s a Coodinato, Kim is solely esponsible fo all tanspotation movement on any given show. She is helping out both sides by woking with Poduces as fa as being budget conscious, while also taking cae of he cew and he Teamste Sistes and Bothes woking in he depatment. I eally enjoy being able to pick my cew and who I get to wok with eveyday. We ae thee fo hous and hous on end. Some days, not eveyone is happy and enjoying each othe s company. That doesn t always happen when you ae months and months into a poduction. But I enjoy the people I wok with and I enjoy getting to put the pope cew togethe to make that happen. Kim attibutes a lot of he success in he caee to not only he had wok but also he ability to seek out oppotunities to gow, take on moe esponsibility, and to lean fom the people that she espected as to how they did thei job. Identifying shows that you like how they ae un and ae oganized and ty to follow those people as mentos. If Coodinating is something that inteests you, it s bette to just be in someone s back pocket if you can and lean that way. This job is vey hands on; some of the pieces can be shapened up in the classoom, but not necessaily taught. Just picking someone out that you think is good at thei job and shadowing them is the best way. Pick someone out that you espect, get along with and that is good at thei job and shadow what they do. Stating out it can be intimidating to some people because it is a pedominantly male dominated line of wok, but I think you need to move past the intimidation facto and get ove any feas and believe that you can do it. Dispatche Kaen mbose made the jump fom Teamstes Local 399 Dispatche to the Tanspotation Depatment Manage at Staz. He caee path is unique and he dedication to he caft is one that developed ove time. Kaen joined Teamstes Local 399 in 2001 and woked in the Industy two yeas pio to joining Teamstes Local 399 as a Dispatche. Tanspotation wasn t a ole I had seen myself in the best thing about stating as a Poduction ssistant is you usually get a eally good view of how poduction woks, and fom that you can assess what aea inteests you. I found Tanspotation and stayed hee because afte a show o two and as my eputation gew, it was just easie to find wok. Kaen descibes heself as just sot of falling into the field of Tanspotation. When Kaen gaduated college she had moved to Seattle to wok in theate befoe stating as a P.. I spent about a yea in Seattle woking in Theate. While I loved it and I loved Theate, I got tied of staving so I came home. I always knew I wanted to do something in the Entetainment Industy, I didn t eally know what. When Kaen etuned fom Seattle and got stated as a P she sent he esume to anyone and eveyone she could think of to ty to find consistent wok. Kaen mentioned that in this business you ae hied a lot of time by who you know, and at the time she didn t know too many people in the Industy. Somehow my esume wound up on the desk of a Tanspotation Coodinato at Wane Bos., Keith Dillin. He hied me fo my fist Studio Show, which was a little movie Clint Eastwood was doing, called Tue Cime. That was my fist job in Tanspotation. t the time that Kaen was woking on Tue Cime, the position of Dispatche at a show level didn t exist. Most of the Dispatches at the time wee in-house with Studios. She says she was essentially woking as a gloified non-union P, o Tanspotation Office Manage, as they wee called back then. fte completing Tue Cime Kaen moved on to wok with othe Coodinatos. Dive I met on one show would efe me to anothe Coodinato, and that Coodinato would hie me, and then on the next show I would meet anothe Dive who would intoduce me to anothe Coodinato. nd it just fell like dominos. I went fom Keith Dillin to Dave Robling to Tommy Tanchaoen, to Jonathan Rosenfeld, and it just fell in-line like that. Eventually Jonathan Rosenfeld helped Kaen get he 30 days to become a Membe of Teamstes Local 399. fte he time with Jonathan, she began woking with Coodinato Denny Caia and continued to wok with him fo 13+ yeas staight. When discussing the highlights of being a Dispatche, Kaen mentioned outside of loving the wok, she was also gateful that as a Dispatche she was able to wok moe nomal hous compaed to othes in the Industy. s she continued to develop a geat eputation fo he wok, the Coodinatos she woked with wee vey willing to wok with he schedule and povide a level of flexibility with he hous. s long as the wok was getting done, I was fotunate to have Coodinatos that would wok with me and my schedule. The tade-off fo me was that I was always willing to put in exta time when necessay to get the job done. s I got maied and stated a family, I was extemely fotunate to wok with a lot of Coodinatos who didn t cae if I came in late o left ealy on occasion as long as I was available and the wok was getting done. fte a successful caee as a Dispatche, Kaen s wok ethic, expeience and commitment to he caft made he a pefect candidate to gow in he ole in the Tanspotation Depatment. I neve eally thought of my caee as a path. I ealized seveal yeas ago that I didn t want to coodinate and that is the peak of the Poduction Tanspotation oad. Once I ealized I didn t want to do that, mostly because I didn t want to put in those types of hous, I emembe thinking that maybe my caee had leveled off and I was okay with that. The tade off was the flexible hous and the time I would have with my kids. Fo Kaen howeve, that wasn t the only path to follow. fte yeas of woking in the Industy as a Dispatche, the position opened at Staz of Tanspotation Manage in the Oiginals Pogamming Team. Kaen accepted the position and is now woking at the Studio as the Tanspotation Executive, managing Staz Tanspotation policy and DOT compliance ove thei oiginal poductions. Pat of my job now is eally to build a elationship with the Coodinato and Tanspotation team to make sue they have the suppot they need to stay compliant with the Studio and DOT policies. My ole as a Dispatche pepaed me fo this because as a Dispatche, you deal not only with Dives and Coodinatos, but with poduces, executives and evey othe depatment. While I am now on the Studio side, I think it s impotant to have someone that has a lot of poduction expeience that knows what is actually happening on a day-to-day basis. I know what both the Studio and the Poduction needs. In discussing he cuent ole she was quick to mention that thee ae definitely things she misses about Dispatching. I miss the Dives. I miss the cew. Thee is an enegy and fun on set that you just don t get anywhee else. Though I miss the people, I can t say I miss my phone inging at 5:30 in the moning because someone can t find something at basecamp. Kaen s move to Staz was met with a lot of suppot fom the Coodinatos and Dives she had woked with ove the yeas. They wee eally glad fo me. I leaned eveything I know fom them and I know pat of the eason I am hee today is because of thei wisdom and suppot. With such an extensive caee thus fa in the Industy, we wanted to know what advice Kaen has fo New Membes embaking on a caee in Tanspotation in the Entetainment Industy. My advice is no matte the position you ae in, whethe it be Dive, Mechanic, Captain, etc lean eveything you possibly can. nd don t be afaid to be wong. Ove the couse of my caee I have seen people be afaid to be wong, which in tun held them back. Lean as much as you can fom eveyone. Sometimes it s also just as impotant to lean what not to do as what to do. Kaen continued by stessing the impotance of not letting youself get pigeonholed in Tanspotation. This advice especially ings tue fo women woking in the Industy. Women make up a small pecentage of Tanspotation Membeship not only in ou Local but also acoss the county. I have had convesations about this with New Yok and tlanta whee thee ae even fewe women in Tanspotation in the Industy, and they all dive vans. I have known a lot of geat female Taile Dives, Stake Bed Dives, Semi Dives. My advice to women in ou Industy is to be fothight and speak up about what you want to do. In my expeience, women who wok had and ae good at communicating what they want don t stop woking. t the end of the day, this advice goes fo eveyone in the Industy accoding to Kaen. Make it known what you want and then look fo those mentos that will help you get thee. Don t be afaid. Pat of the fun is who you wok with today might not be who you wok with tomoow. It s all about elationships. If you feel like you aen t getting the oppotunity you need o you feel like you e in a place whee you e not gowing, keep looking. Someone out thee will be willing to help you. Sue it can be intimidating, but keep looking. In closing Kaen left us with one final piece of advice and wods of wisdom to shae, Take the one-day call. You neve know what it can tun into. Take whateve oppotunity that comes you way. This business can be ough but the Union and its Membeship have always been eally good to me. I do all the shopping fo the tailes, clean them and I am thee to fix them if something goes wong. Something I have gotten eally, eally good at. lso, if the actos need to be shown how to do something simple like tun on the a/c o heate, I can help them with that. Especially since I hadn t seen o spoken to that actess in 4 yeas. ll of a sudden they called me out of the blue. Having a geat eputation that gets you jobs with specific people yeas afte woking with them made me feel special and affimed that I did my job well. I wok to make eveyone happy. Even though Delya has had an extensive caee woking in Tanspotation, it was just this past Decembe that Delya stated he Dispatching position as a Pemit and she achieved he 30 days in Febuay Delya is cuently woking as a Dispatche at Paamount and handles the DOT Compliance side of things, making sue they ae in compliance with State and Fedeal Regulations, as well as making sue the Dives they employ ae well educated on what they need to do when they tavel and ae opeating unde Paamount s DOT numbe. One of the things I head fom people and Dives I have woked with ove the yeas was how suppotive and excited they wee fo me when they found out I was able to become a Dispatche and a Teamste. Outside of being flexible when it comes to being a Dispatche, Delya mentioned this job is also based in lage pat on collaboation and the elationships you build, not only with you co-wokes but also all people that wok in poduction such as Dives, Coodinatos and Captains. One thing I pide myself on is building elationships whee people can feel comfotable to ask questions o help poblem solve a situation. I always tell Dives o DOT dministatos on a show that I would much athe they feel comfotable to ask fo any claification then do something wong o be confused. Thee ae no silly questions. The move to Dispatche at Paamount was anothe way to continue to gow pofessionally and give heself a new challenge to tackle. Dispatche was something I was eally excited about not only because I could be pat of a eally stong Union and I would get good benefits and obviously the pay but it was also an oppotunity to gow as a pofessional and lean the diffeent aspects of tanspotation that I wouldn t have leaned o been exposed to befoe. That was the main diving foce fo me how can I lean moe and gow moe. Delya heself is a elatively new Local 399 Membe. With extensive expeience in the Entetainment Industy in the field of Tanspotation, she is no stange to obseving that this field tends to have moe men than women. Howeve Delya says she doesn t eally think too much about that. Though she mentioned she would love to see moe female Dives and continue to see moe oppotunities fo women to embak in this field of wok, she mentioned she always gets excited wheneve she gets to wok with stong women in the Tanspotation Depatment. Fo Delya, the bottom line is it s all about being a had woke. I have always looked at the Dives in the Entetainment Industy as had wokes. They put in extemely long hous.
