Answer: Pitch Pitch = Distance in milimeters between centers of each SMD LED (or pixel) So P2.0 LED display = 2mm Pitch = 2 milimeters between the centers of each pixel Question: What pitches are considered Ultra-Fine Pitch? Pitch = Distance between center for Pixels in mm Answer: Ranges from 3mm and smaller Note: There are no industry standards and resolutions for Ultra-Fine Pitch Direct View LED tiles and cabinets. Divide by 2 rule: 4.0 mm pitch / 2 = 2 m or 6.5 ft 1.5 mm / 2 =.75 m or 2.5 ft Retina distance is the purist s answer. Distance at which person with 20/20 vision does NOT see pixels. 4.0 mm = 45 ft or 15 m 1.5 mm = 17 ft or 5.6 m True answer depends on content, application, personal perception (and budget!) 10 Considerations When Planning & Designing LED Video Wall Displays When considering LED Direct View technology for video wall applications, there are three key factors: The first is Pixel Density which can affect viewing distance and image quality. The smaller the pixel pitch and tighter pixel density, the better the image will look at close distances. Which brings us to the second key factor, Viewing Distance. It is important to know the shortest distance from the viewer to the video display so your designer or AV integrator can select the best pixel pitch and components for the system that will produce optimal image quality. The third factor is Cost Per Meter 2. There are many ways to calculate the cost of an LED video wall. Especially with so many different vendors and non standard tile and cabinet sizes. Always make sure to calculate the actual cost per meter 2. 10

11 Other Considerations Efficient and Easy Installation & Service Other factors to consider are system installation and service costs. Direct View LED video wall cabinet mounting brackets should provide multiple axis adjustment points that fine tune each display for a smooth, seamless appearance. Also front service access reduces additional installation costs for additional wall framing construction. Also consider an off-board electronic architecture that moves the system power supplies, controllers, and media players away from the video wall display. This reduces the need to mount electronic hardware behind the display, which dramatically reduces fan noise and heat at the display. This also provides easy access for service and maintenance to the electronic components, which helps keep service and maintenance at a minimum. In addition, off-board electronics allows for redundant power supply, video source and cabling that ensures uninterrupted system operation. LED video wall cabinets come in different sizes.
