IMPORTANT When cutting, e sure to djust the lde extension ccording to the mteril tht will e cut. If too much of the lde is extended, the lde my rek or the mt my e cut. Do not use roken lde. Otherwise, cutting cnnot e performed correctly. If the lde reks, remove the roken piece of lde from the cut mteril. When removing the roken piece of lde from the cut mteril, use tweezers; do not touch it with your fingers. Do not plce the AC dpter, power cord nd foreign ojects within the rnge of the mt s movements (feed re). Otherwise, opertions cnnot e completed correctly. Do not plce lrge ojects on the mt. 4

7 Do not fold or stretch the mt with extreme force. If the mt is dmged, it my no longer e possile to cut, drw or scn. Do not use dmged mt. Mke sure tht the edges of the mt do not ecome dirty. Otherwise, the mt type cnnot e detected, which will interfere with the proper opertion of the mchine. If the edges ecome dirty, wipe them with dry cloth. Use mt designed specificlly for this mchine. In ddition, do not use hrd mterils, such s metl sheets, which re incomptile with this mchine. Otherwise, dmge to the mchine my result. Avoid using crft pper or fric covered with decortive lyer (tht cn esily seprte), such s lmé or foil. While the mchine is operting, do not pull out or push in the mt with extreme force. Otherwise, the lde or holder my e dmged. Store the mt t room temperture nd in loction not exposed to high tempertures, high humidity or direct sunlight. If the crrige must e moved y hnd in n emergency, move it slowly. Otherwise, dmge to the mchine my result. Before replcing the holder, check tht the holder is not moving. While the mchine is operting, do not unplug the power cord or remove the USB flsh drive. Otherwise, the USB flsh drive my e dmged or the dt my e corrupted. Do not insert foreign ojects into the DC power jck or USB port on the mchine. Be sure to mke spce ville round them. 8 Precutions for Scnning After using the mchine to scn n originl, check tht the scn dt meets the requirements for precision nd qulity. Since some prts of the scn dt my e missing or deficient, oserve the following precutions. Depending on the condition of the originl, crcks, skewing, smering or loss my occur, nd some or ll of the scn dt my e missing. Mke sure tht there re not wrinkles or folds in the originl. In ddition, correctly ttch the originl to the mt. If n originl is scnned while the inside of the mchine is dirty, crcks, skewing, smering or loss my occur, nd some or ll of the scn dt my e missing. Crefully clen the inside of the mchine. Depending on the scn settings (scn size nd resolution), originls my e scnned s descried elow. With n insufficient resolution, the imge my e lurry. A prt of the imge my e missing, or the size my e reduced. Scn dt from midwy of the originl to the end my e missing. Mrgins my e dded to the edges of the scn dt. If fluorescent mrker hs een used on the originl, the color my not e scnned, depending on the mrker color nd thickness, or the hue my not e fithfully reproduced. 12 FIRST STEPS The following procedures descrie sic opertions, from prepring the mteril to performing tril cutting. Removing the Trnsport Pcking Mterils Before turning on the mchine, remove the shipping tpe nd the crdord shock-soring mteril. To store wy the opertion pnel, first rise it until it is verticl, nd then it cn e lowered nd stored wy. If you wish to decrese the ngle of the opertion pnel, rise it until it is verticl, nd then djust the ngle gin. If the pcking mterils were removed fter the mchine ws turned on, turn the mchine off, then on gin. Continuing to use the mchine without restrting it my result in incorrect opertion. Adjusting the Angle of the Opertion Pnel Follow the instructions provided ove to lower the pnel. Lowering it forcily my cuse dmge to the pnel. Turning On/Off the Mchine Connect the power cord to the AC dpter, nd then connect the AC dpter to the mchine. The ngle of the opertion pnel cn e djusted to one of three levels. Power cord AC dpter Memo When using the AC dpter, untie the undled cord. Plug the power cord into n electricl outlet. 10

13 c Press in the opertion pnel. When the opening screen ppers, touch nywhere on the disply. Opertion of LCD Pnel After the mchine is turned on, the opertion screens pper in the touch pnel. To perform opertions in the screens, use the included touch pen. 1 When the following messge ppers, touch the OK key. Never use hrd or pointed oject, such s mechnicl pencil or screwdriver, to mke selection in the screens. Otherwise, dmge to the mchine my result. The home screen ppers. Preprtion of Crft Pper/Fric Memo LCD pnels commonly hve right spots (permnently lit dots) nd drk spots (unlit dots). It my cuse some unexpected luminous spots to pper nd tiny picture elements to e missed in the screen. Plese note tht this is not sign of mlfunction. d To turn off the mchine, press opertion pnel. in the e Unplug the power cord from the electricl outlet. f Disconnect the AC dpter from the mchine, nd then disconnect the power cord from the AC dpter. Do not wind the AC dpter cle round the dpter or end the cle, otherwise the cle my e dmged. Prepre the mteril for cutting, drwing nd scnning (Direct Cut), sed on the following conditions. If mt with support sheet ttched is not to e used for certin length of time, peel the support sheet off the mt nd ffix the protective sheet on the dhesive side of the mt efore storing it. Do not reuse support sheet tht hs een ttched to the mt. Store the support sheet t room temperture nd in loction not exposed to high tempertures, high humidity or direct sunlight. Do not end the support sheet to store it. 4 Lightweight Fric for Any Use Other Thn Quilt Piecing 1 d c Fric cut out Support sheet remining on mt The support sheet my e unintentionlly peeled off while you re removing the fric from the mt under the following conditions: - The dhesive etween the mt nd support sheet is ecoming wek fter repeted uses. - The support sheet tends to e strongly ttched to certin types of frics. In this cse, use the included sptul to hold the support sheet on the mt nd remove the fric using your hnd. After cutting, crefully remove ny fiers remining on the support sheet. When ttching fric with n iron-on sheet ttched or pper to the mt, clenly peel off the support sheet from the mt, or ttch the mteril to different stndrd mt without support sheet ttched. Do not leve mteril ttched to mt with support sheet ttched for long period of time; otherwise, the dhesive will permete the mteril. Notice on Use of Support Sheet When the sheet s dhesive strength decreses or fric ecomes twisted while eing cut, replce the sheet with new one. When peeling the sheet off the mt or replcing the sheet, use the sptul to crefully remove the old sheet. Store the mt in etween uses with the protective sheet ffixed to the support sheet. If cutting line dt sved with different sem llownce is imported nd used, the setting specified in this screen will hve priority over the sved setting. Auto Shutdown If the mchine is not used for specified length of time, it will utomticlly turn off. The length of time until the mchine turns off cn e specified in the settings screen. Pttern Intervl Specify the spcing etween ptterns s well s white spce round the edges of cutting re when ptterns in the pttern lyout screen re utomticlly rrnged. Pge 4 Set the numer to 3 or higher when lightweight fric is ttched to the mt with high tck dhesive fric support sheet. In this exmple, we will use mteril with cutout in its upper-left corner s ckground imge. Touch in the pttern lyout screen (pge 35) to perform the uto lyout function. Depending on the pttern nd mteril to e cut, the ptterns my not e clenly cut if their spcing is too smll. In tht cse, rerrnge the ptterns to slightly seprte them. The spcing etween rrnged ptterns cn e specified in the settings screen (see Pttern Intervl on pge 24). Perform the uto lyout function fter every time you djust the spcing etween ptterns so the chnges re pplied. Set the numer to 3 or higher in the Pttern Intervl setting when lightweight fric is ttched to the mt with high tck dhesive fric support sheet. If lint nd dust ccumulte etween the lde nd holder, the lde my no longer rotte or the cutting qulity my ecome poor. Do not use lcohol or wter to clen the mt. When the mt is not eing used, clen it, nd then store it with the protective sheet ffixed. At tht time, do not ffix the protective sheet while the mt is dmp. Otherwise, the mt s dhesive strength will decrese. Do not fold or end the mt to store it. Store the mt t room temperture nd in loction not exposed to high tempertures, high humidity or direct sunlight. If the mt no longer hs ny dhesive strength, replce it with new one. Otherwise, increse the spcing etween ptterns. Turn the mchine off, then on gin, nd then try performing the opertion gin. The USB flsh drive eing used my not e usle with this mchine. If unplugging the USB flsh drive nd performing the opertion gin cuses the messge to pper gin, replce the USB flsh drive. To cut out or drw the pttern(s) outside of the re, increse the setting for Cut Are, or move the pttern(s) into the re specified with Cut Are (pge 23). When your re welding or unifying ptterns: Reduce the numer of ptterns rrnged or chnge the ptterns to ones with simple designs. The mt is one tht cnnot e used with the function eing performed.
