5 CASE STUDY: SHoW DMX VERO New LED Lighting For The Stamford Train Station If you are driving up the East Coast from New York City to Boston it s impossible to miss the bold new lighting on the Stamford, Connecticut train station. The story behind this installation is part of a larger story that is taking place all over the world: LED architectural lighting controlled by wireless DMX. Every municipality wants to be involved with the growing trend of revitialising their central cities with new lighting, controlled in new ways. 12 QolorFLEX LED TAPE LED tape is a revolutionary product, allowing lighting users to put light in places that were impossible in the past and to create lighting fixtures and lighting effects in new and inexpensive ways. It is disruptive technology at its best. Our QolorFLEX LED tape is manufactured to City Theatrical s exact specifications for professional use in Theatrical, Film, and Video applications. It is available in a variety of types such as single colour, three colour RGB, and four colour RGBA, and RGBW. There are two sizes of LED chips which we offer, 5050 and The 5050 size chip is larger and produces more light. Tapes with a density of 60 LEDs/M are also twice as bright as the 30 LEDs/M version. We have both indoor and outdoor rated styles in both 12V and 24V. The types are constantly evolving, so check our website regularly for new additions. It has an adhesive applied to the back side to allow peel-and-stick mounting. It is available in 5 metre (16.4 ft.) spools. See our website for complete specifications for each tape type. Rock solid DMX distribution and now DMX distribution that supports RDM is even more important today than ever before. With most lighting systems now using an incredible mixture of gear from a very large number of manufacturers, optosplitters are required for starwiring and for protection against ground loops, common mode voltages and other problems that may emerge. Pathway Repeaters use a time-proven design that includes self-resetting poly-switches for unassisted recovery from electrical faults, and socketed transceiver and opto-coupler chips. The Repeater Pro models support RDM packet traffic, as well as DMX, and will also act as simple RDM controllers. 27 Adana Theatre Festival in Turkey CASE STUDY: SHoW BABY Three Show Baby s were used to control a massive water show spectacular and LEDs on the water at the Opening Ceremonies of the 15th International Theatre Festival 2013 in Adana, Turkey Jens Hillenkotter states: We had to integrate a multimedia show around an artistic performance. Part of the opening ceremonies included a 75 meter water display in the middle of the Seyhan River in front of the Hilton SA Hotel Adana. We had two nights to program and rehearse the entire opening ceremony around the artistic rehearsals. Strong winds caused delays as the water display could shoot up to 75 meters high which means there are 3.5 tons of water which are coming down somewhere. During setup and tech rehearsals we built the mission control in a suite at the Hilton. We used three Show Babys (equipped with 5dbi aerials) to control the water display, one as the receiver on the water platform at the river, one as sender at the mission control at the Hilton, one at the front of the house. 55 CASE STUDY: SHoW BABY Rowan University Department of Theatre and Dance Kill Me Now Stairs To The Roof Guys and Dolls Who Will Carry The Word I am the Resident Lighting designer for Rowan University. This past season I used SHoW Babys on every show. On the first show, Stairs To The Roof, I used four SHoW Babys to run Wybron Cygnus LED units over the stage. On the second show, Kill Me Now, we were in a ballroom with limited power (only six circuits) so the show needed to be almost all LED. We also had to pack up and break down three times during the tech and run, so wireless DMX was the right choice. I used four units again on this show to run the FOH and to the backstage area. Six circuits and 684 channels of control, all run on SHoW Babys. The third show, Who Will Carry The Word, took place in an art studio. We used six SHoW Baby units to get around this space. Again, limited power, so we had lots of small dimmers and MR16 Birdies around the space. The fourth show was Guys And Dolls. With a limited setup time and booms everywhere - we used 11 SHoW Baby units, one at each boom, to control the LED Cygnus sidelights. The fifth show, No Vacancy, was the big dance show of the week. With a limited crew and only 12 hours of load in time, the SHoW Baby was again the answer. We used 14 of them this time, 10 to run the Cygnus LED booms and rotators and another three over the stage to run the moving lights. Robert A.
