4 Resolution for DOOH For those creating files for us for the first time, you may want to have a quick read before you start. The term "resolution" for DOOH can be confusing for some clients preparing files for our screens. Typically what we would refer to as DPI (dots per inch) or PPI (pixels per inch) does not apply to file sizing for BBTCA features. To explain further, and for our purposes, file resolution refers to the size of file (width and height), not dots or pixels per inch. The below image indicates (in Photoshop), where resolution is adjusted for our files. This file size would be correct for feature DD-I, DD-KL or DD-Z files: Please follow the above sizing process for all BBTCA files. You can also follow the same sizing process in other apps, such as InDesign or Illustrator simply choose pixels as your units when sizing width and height in these programs. Have more questions? 17 Digital Display R-1 to R-3 [DD-R-1/2/3] Cont d Additional Specification Information Designing for Multi-Touch Designing for multi-touch can lead to some very interesting and creative user experiences. The R feature is capable of handling up to 20 points of touch. There are 3 considerations for designing a multi-touch experience for our feature: the form factor, an understanding of gesture based interactions and technology. The Form Factor Our R feature is a 6x6 Christie MicroTile display that measures to 8' x 6' with a resolution of 3200 x 2400 pixels. Gestures There's no limit to the types of gestures this feature can support. The interactive kit can detect single or multiple finger gestures or gestures based on multiple hands. Here are some common gestures to consider in your design: Drag Flick Pinch and spread Press Press and tap Press and drag Rotate Scroll Squeeze and splay Technology To program for multi-touch there are some base technologies that must be used. Our content management program, Scala, supports most of them. They would include HTML5, C++, VBScript, Python, Java, JavaScript and Flash/ActionScript. The choice is really up to you. There are also many frameworks and SDKs that enable/support multi-touch events and help expedite development and testing Interactive Safe Area In order for an optimal user experience, we suggest a safe area of interaction. 19 FILE DELIVERY specifications IMPORTANT NOTE: Please use Adobe After Effects Templates, Media Encoder pre-sets and PNG Guidelines for the Digital Displays. They are available for download at Some key things to keep in mind when creating and submitting files: Files MUST BE exactly 15 seconds, or 450 frames at 30.00fps (NOT 29.97fps PLEASE) Please note the location of the screen bezels on the multi screen video walls and adjust placement of key messaging and branding accordingly (please reference PNG Guidelines) Video file format accepted is MP4 (H.264) only (please reference rendering presets) Send files 10 business days in advance of posting date for testing or we can t guarantee they will be live at start of contract Send any interactive touch screen files 15 days in advance to allow for testing, or we can t guarantee they will be live at start of contract Please ensure all DOOH files (before compression) are named: BBTCA_DDfeatureletter_advertiser_startdate For example: BBTCA_DDB_advertiseinc_Dec25 If you have a series of files for DDQ or DDM, please number them in sequence DDQ1 and DDM1 respectively. File naming and numbering specifications are outlined on pages 11 (DDQ) and 14 (DDM). Please upload your files to the FTP in a zipped (.zip) folder each upload cannot exceed 2GB. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you need to re-upload your zipped folder for any reason, please name it as a new version as two files with the same name cannot exist on the FTP at the same time and the new upload will be rejected. 22 CREATIVE GUIDELINES, SPECIFICATIONS & BEST PRACTICES FOR DIGITAL OUT OF HOME (DOOH) 22

23 Creative Guidelines & Specifications for Digital Out of Home (DOOH) DOOH executions that follow best practices, taking into consideration movement, composition, physical dimensions, location and dwell time, consistently outperform those that do not. The following pages outline some best practices that will ensure better performance on BBTCA screens. It is most effective to develop creative specifically for out-of-home so you take advantage of the unique and effective benefits of the medium. Keep in mind: You are advertising in an airport The identity of the advertiser should be immediately clear. KEEP IT SIMPLE. 23

24 DOOH what to think about Location, Location, Location Consider the location and size of your sign when developing creative. Factors that can affect your design: Passenger flow The amount of time it takes to convey your message must be the same as the amount of time it takes a viewer to read it. If it takes a viewer 6 seconds to pass a screen, then he or she will probably only be able to read the screen for 4 seconds, which means that you have 4 seconds to convey your message. Dwell time Passengers may or may not stop in the area of your sign. Passengers on the go won t necessarily stop to read your message unless they are in a waiting area. Size of the screen and distance of viewers from them Everything looks great on large screens, however, it s harder to focus on content when you are standing within feet of a display. There must be a balance between how much content is presented on the screen and what is digestible by the viewer. Multiple Screens allows for content to be spread out in order to tell a story. Each screen should include a limited amount of concept and messaging to maximize impact. 24

25 DOOH best practices to include in your creative 1. Develop specialized creative for DOOH DOOH creative requires consideration of its unique creative benefits in order to be effective. 2. Make it move Even the smallest amount of creative movement will help elevate engagement. Examples of movement may not only include full motion video (not always accessible), but rather transitional movement and animation builds using still images. It all works well. 3. High Contrast and Colour Dark backgrounds with elements of vibrant colour work best for delivering high impact. Rule of Thumb: if possible, avoid using large areas of white i.e. backgrounds or large image areas. It can be visually overwhelming for the viewer (brightness). 4. Legibility Even interior DOOH signage requires larger messaging in order to increase absorption of concept. Rule of Thumb: if the text used in your creative is unreadable on your computer screen at 100% zoom, it will not be visible on a digital out of home screen. 5. Simplicity Creative that is simple in all ways including concept, branding, imagery, fonts, etc., will always be more effective in DOOH than complex executions. 25

26 DOOH other important considerations 1. Involve the audience Content that invites interactivity or engagement performs better. Use a call to action to increase engagement. 2. Use technology Research the benefits of using technology to help connect and engage your brand/message with viewers. Concepts can include a triggered response display of weather, flight availability or speed of traffic. 3. Test your creative Show the design to someone from a distance for only 5 seconds and then ask him or her about it. Did they understand it? Who was the advertiser? What do they think the advertiser wants them to do? 26
