8 Differences between Analog and IP Analog Cables are home run to head end (Coax has max of 1000 ) Resolution limitation of VGA (720x480) Resolution and frame rate determined thru recorder No bandwidth limitations Motion and analytics are performed at the recorder Compression is achieved thru recorder Video standards IP Cables are run to closest IT closet (Cat5e has max run of 300 ) Virtually no resolution limitation Resolution and frame rate are determined at the edge (camera) Bandwidth limitations determined by desired camera output and cable Motion and analytics are performed at the edge(camera) Compression is accomplished thru camera No standards yet! Not all cameras are compatible with recorders. PSIA and ONVIF are two standards that are being adopted.
