The FIST-GCO2 for modular cables has the following functions and features: Single-ended design Base and dome are sealed with a clamp and O-ring system 6 or 16 round entry/exit ports for drop cables and 1 oval port for looped cable The UMS (Universal Mounting System) profiles provide the foundation for mounting combinations of SOSA2 (Splice Only Sub-Assembly) and/or SASA2 (Splitter Array Sub-Assembly) modules, which consist of a modular groove plate and trays Specially configured to be used with modular cables (raised frame position) Uncut fibers can be stored as single circuits in trays and/or as cable elements in the storage space between the profiles.

4 3.2 Opening the FIST-GCO The FIST-GCO2 will be mounted temporary on the work-stand. The work-stand is wrap-around, so that the FIST-GCO2 installed with cables can be taken away from it. Secure the FIST-GCO2 base onto the workstand with the four splitpen s Open and remove the clamp. Remove the dome and the O-ring Remark: take care with the O-ring and the sealing surfaces on the base and dome (avoid damaging). Clean only with clear water or with the cleaning tissue, included in the kit, if needed 4

5 4 Cable preparation 4.1 Microcable directly into the ports 4.1b Bracket/ Strength member and cable termination/preparation 4.1a Looped cable preparation S-cable: A window cut of 3m50 is needed for GCO2-BC6/16, 3m70 for GCO2-BD6/16 and 3m90 for GCO2-BE6/ S-cable: Mark the cable in the middle and mark the cable on (1.75), (1.85) or (1.95) meters left and right of the first mark. Remove the cable jacket starting in the middle Insert the strength members of the cable into the universal strength member connector on the loop bracket (loosen the bolts with the Allen key if necessary) such that all loose tubes can be routed without unnecessary crossings. Avoid to twist the loop in the case of a reversed oscillating cable. Fasten with the Allen key. Note: the strength members can be bundled with PTFE tape. To avoid crossings, one can cut two strength members. A B Reversed Oscillating cable: Mark the cable in the middle of the loop and remove cable jacket left and right of the mark over a total distance of 110cm (little more as the distance between two reversal points on the cable). Locate the loose tube reversal point and mark the cable on (1.75), (1.85) or (1.95) meters left and right from this point. Remove further the cable jacket starting from this point. Important: make sure that the twist position of the loose tubes is identical in A and B. This must be done correctly for ease of installation If the cable diameter is more than 8mm, secure the cables with the hose clamps onto the loop bracket. Wrap a few layers of tape around the hose clamps. If the cable diameter is less than 8mm fix the cables with tie wraps as shown Remove the strength member leaving 80mm from the cable jacket, if shield present leave 15mm of the shield Clean the loose tubes, remove all grease Identify the loose tubes with the split collet rings markers if necessary. There are different FIST-split-collet-rings depending on diameter of the loose tube Open the oval port; the cutting wire can be used. 5

6 4.1c Installation of the seals Take the oval sleeve and place the packing bag that has been opened on both sides in the oval sleeve to prevent the hotmelt inside the sleeve from dirt and grease. Take the LCIT and bend the loose tubes gently over it. Push the loose tubes in the sleeve. The uncoated edge of the sleeve (arrows) should point to the base of the closure Clean and abrade the port and the microcables Install the SCOP underneath the oval port as shown(for cables less then 12mm) Now push the loose tubes (looped around the LCIT) in the oval port Remove the LCIT and pull the loose tubes gently in the closure Remove the packing bag out of the seal, push the seal upwards to the base and mark the cable flush with the seal. Make sure the uncoated edge butts up against the base Position the loop bracket in the bracket and lock with the split pin. 6

7 Wrap the aluminium protection foil around the SCOP. Position it 15 mm to the inside of the mark as shown. Disregard the blue line on the aluminum cable protection foil Hold the cable in position. Shrink till the green painting dots become black, and the hotmelt is visible on the bottom. Postheat the clip on both sides till the adhesive shows a proper flow on the clip between the two cables. Do not move the FIST-GCO2 or cable during 20 minutes. 4.1d Loose buffer tube storage Push the seal against the base and place the clip Start heating the seal on the base and wait one minute, shrink in spiral movements downwards. Note: setting of the thermogun. FACC-HEAT-GUN-220V in position 10. Minimum hot air temperature should be 350 C Make some loops with the uncut loose tubes, and put these in the plastic bag (Be careful not to damage the loose tubes!).two sizes of bags are available. Use the correct size according the volume of the loose tubes. Slide the bag between the UMS. If the capacity of the looped loose tubes is too much, one puts the loops at one side; in this case secure the plastic bag with the tubes on the UMS-profiles with tiewraps. 7

8 4.1e Fiber storage in trays Select the loose tube(s) with the fibers that have to be spliced In case of reversed oscillating cable: separate the loose tube(s). Match the loose tube(s) on the tubeholder and mark both sides between the two marks. Shave between the two marks with the appropriate tooling. Clean the fibers and wind some PTFE tape around the ends of the tubes and fibers,to protect the transition from tube to fibers. In case of S-cable: cut the loose tube(s) (with fibers that have to be spliced) in the middle of the loop. Separate the cut loose tube(s) from the others. Match the loose tube(s) on the tubeholder and mark both sides. Strip the loose tube(s). Clean the fibers. Remark: Loose tubes routed up to the tube holder should be routed in such a way that one still has complete access of the stored tubes between UMS profile. This is needed for later routing of loose tubes from the loops to the tube holders, without creating crossings and without creating disturbances on the loose tubes already routed up to the tube holders In case of Reversed oscillating cable Identify exchange and customer-side using some PTFE tape around the fibers. One can also use the FIST-split-collets-rings markers to identify the loose tubes If the fibers are twist free one can route the fibers separate to single circuit trays or single element trays. Separate all fiber loops first till the tubeholder. If the fibers are not twist free select first the fiber(s) that have to be spliced and cut these fibers in the middle of the loop. Remove these out of the bundle till the tubeholder. These fibers can be routed to single circuit trays, others uncut will be routed to a single element tray (never in dark fiber storage) (See at fiber routing) Different loops can be put together beneath the same tube holder retainer. Position one or more loose tubes in the tubeholder and slide the tube holder retainer with the snap forward in the lowest possible cavities of the tubeholder above the loose tube(s). The tube holder retainer must snap. 8

Remove the outer-jacket over a distance of 300 mm. Note: make sure the microduct(s) is (are) not damaged in this area Secure the microducts inside the closure. This to prevent the multiducts from moving during shrinking of the cable seal Slide the cable seal over the multiducts. Position the cable jacket end halfway (± 30 mm) into the oval port. Note: Make sure the un-coated edge (arrow) is pointing towards the base of the closure Clean and abrade the multiducts and port. 9

10 4.2.7 Remove the packing bag out of the seal and push the seal against the base. Mark the multiducts flush with the seal. Note: Make sure the uncoated edge (arrow) on the sleeve is pointing towards the base Start heating the seal on the base, and wait one minute and shrink in spiral movements downwards. Note: setting of the thermogun. FACC-HEAT-GUN-220V in position 10. Minimum hot air temperature should be 350 C Match the blue line of the aluminium protection foil with the marks on the multiducts. 11 4.2c Microduct and microcable preparation (oval port) Cut the microducts with the tube cutter at 50 mm from the bottom of the base. Note: Make sure that the tube is not damaged at this spot. When necessary, re-cut the tube Remove the microcable jacket at 10 mm above the blocking connector Close the not used microducts with an ENDCAP connector, install on the used ones a blocking connector. Note: At this moment the microcable can be blown in, respect the necessary cable length.see point 2.5 (cable preparation table). When a second microcable is blown through (only running through the closure, no tap-off) it is advised to terminate it the same way as the first microcable Measure, mark and cut the strength members and attach them in the strength member attachment. Strength members can be bundled with PTFE tape to make installation easier. Note: the strength members can be bundled with PTFE tape. To avoid crossings, one can cut two strength members The termination and routing of the loose buffer tubes is done according to the S-cable method described under till Note: although the microcable has an SZ construction, it can not be blown in the closure in such a way that the SZ is centered correctly. 11

12 4.2d Multiduct preparation (drop port) A Single multiduct per port Strip the outer-jacket of the multiduct over 300 mm. Insert the multiduct into the drop port and position the cable jacket end halfway (± 30 mm) into the port. Note: make sure the microduct(s) is (are) not damaged in this area Match the blue line of the aluminium protection foil with the marks on the multiducts. Wrap aluminium cable protection foil around the multiduct (the aluminium foil should not be more than 30 mm inside the sleeve Push the seal against the base Secure the microduct(s) inside the closure. This to prevent the multiducts from moving during shrinking of the cable seal Clean and abrade the multiduct and port Start heating the seal on the base, and wait one minute and shrink in spiral movements downwards. Note: setting of the thermogun. FACC-HEAT-GUN-220V in position 10. Minimum hot air temperature should be 350 C Remove the packing bag out of the cable seal and push the seal against the base. Mark the multiduct flush with the cable seal. Note: Make sure the uncoated area (arrow) on the sleeve is pointing towards the base Hold the multiduct in position. Shrink till the green painting dots become black, and the hotmelt is visible on the bottom. Do not move the FIST-GCO2 or multiduct during 20 minutes. 12

13 B Multiple multiducts per port Clean and abrade the appropriate port and multiduct (over a distance of 200 mm) Position the SCOP at 30 mm from the multiduct jacket and wrap the SCOP around the multiduct (FACC-MC-SCOP-CS-10) Place the cable seal over the drop outlet of the base. When cable seal butts against the base, mark the sleeve length on the SCOP Slide the cable seal over the multiduct(s). Note: make sure the uncoated edge (arrow) on the seal sleeve is pointing towards the base Position the aluminum cable protection foil 15 mm to the inside of the mark on the SCOP. Wrap the aluminum cable protection foil around the SCOP and smoothen. Note: disregard the blue line on the aluminum cable protection foil Push the multiducts into the port till the SCOP butts against (or matches) the port edge. Secure the microducts into the closure with tape. Note: securing the microducts(multiducts) prevent the multiduct from moving out of the closure when installing the sleeve. Check the port capacity table (point 1.2) for the allowed configurations Slide the cable seal over the port. Shrink the cable seal on the base side with the recommended hot air gun device. Use the reflector to ensure heat distribution around the outlet. Shrink cable seal until the green thermo-indicating paint is converted to black. Note: setting of the thermogun. FACC-HEAT-GUN-220V in position 10. Minimum hot air temperature should be 350 C. 13

14 Shrink down the end of the cable seal on the multiduct side. Heat till the cable seal shrinks down onto the multiduct and the green thermo-indicating paint is converted to black and the hotmelt is visible on the bottom. Do not move the FIST-GCO2 or multiduct(s) during 20 minutes. 4.2e Microduct and microcable preparation (drop port) Close the not used microducts with an ENDCAP, install on the used ones a blocking connector (10mm microduct) or a blocking rubber(5mm or 10 mm microduct ). Note : at this moment the microcable can be blown in, respect the necessary cable length.see point 2.5 (cable preparation table). The blocking rubber is installed after the microcable is blown Cut the microducts with the tube cutter at 50 mm from the bottom of the base. Note: Make sure that the tube is not damaged at this spot, when necessary, re-cut the tube Cut the rubber blocking in half (30 mm) and install. Position the rubber half on the microduct and half on the microcable. Install a tie-wrap (secure it tight) onto the rubber in the microcable area and trim the tail. A Microcable (Ø 4 mm) Remove the microcable jacket at 10 mm above the blocking connector (or rubber blocking).

15 Position one or more loose tubes in the tubeholder according to the correct position and slide the tube holder retainer with the snap forward in the lowest possible cavity of the tubeholder above the loose tube. The tube holder retainer must snap. (see capacity of tubeholders). B Microcable (Ø < 4 mm) Measure, mark and cut the strength members, attach them as shown with the strength member attachment. Strength members can be bundled with PTFE tape to make installation easier. Note: in case of a 4W10 mm multiduct, one has to use the rubber blocking (FACC-MC-EBLOCK-10MM-10) and the multi-strength member attachment Match the loose tube on the tubeholder, mark and strip the loose tube from this mark. Clean the fibers Route the microcable as such towards the tube holder and mark in-between the tube holder marks. Note: Make sure the blocking rubber is installed.(see point ) Remove the outer-jacket till the mark and cut the strength members as close as possible to the jacket end. 15

16 PORT BASE: Ports ( ), ( ) for cables to (S2). Ports ( ), ( ) for cables to (S1). Verify the position of two cables if they are placed on the same side (next to each other) because the total amount of loose tubes in ports going to one tubeholder can never be more than mentioned in the capacity of the tubeholder Position one or more microcables in the tubeholder according to the correct position and slide the tube holder retainer with the snap forward in the lowest possible cavity of the tubeholder above the loose tube. The tube holder retainer must snap (see capacity of tubeholders). 5 Fiber routing 6 PORT BASE: Ports (1+3), (6+8) for cables to S2. Ports (5+7), (2+4) for cables to S1. Verify the position of 2 cables if they are placed on the same side (next to each other) because the total amount of loose tubes imports (1+3) or (2+4) or (5+7) or (6+8) can never be more then mentioned in the capacity of the tube holder. 5.1 Fibers can be routed between OS1, OS2, ES1 and ES2. In case that fibers have to be routed from SIDE-O (Odd portnumbers) to SIDE-E (Even portnumbers), use the window (see picture). Select the cable termination as such, that a minimum of fibers will cross and have to be routed through the window. Therefore the selection of the ports according to the cable lay-out is important. 5.3 Remove the hook and loop fastener and routing block cap. To remove the routing block cap lift the two snaps at one side of the routing block cap. 16

17 5.4 Secure the wraparound groove plate on the UMS by putting the plate with the long protrusions in the S1 UMS-profile and sliding the plate in the S2 UMS-profile until it snaps. (Do not leave gaps between groove plates). 5.5 To remove push the two snapfits at S2 UMS-profile and slide the wraparound plate towards S1 UMS-profile. 5.6 Place a tray in the wraparound groove plate; do this by pushing the lip on the groove plate (lowest possible position) slightly down with the tray and move the tray lateral into the hinge-cavities of the groove plate. To snap the Single Element tray (SE) in the wraparound single fiber groove plate leave always one hinge facility open between Fasblock or previous tray and the SE-tray. 5.7 To remove the tray put the fiber guiding pin between lip on wraparound groove plate and tray and move lateral towards S1. 17

18 5.10 Pull gently on the fibers in the tray and make sure that the fibers are well contained in the routing block and wraparound groove plate. 5.8 Identify the tray to be worked on and make it accessible. If the routing block and trays are in vertical position you will have to support the trays above the selected one using the tray wedge which fits in the cavities of the wraparound groove plate. Position the wedge carefully such that the groove is still accessible for the fibers and be careful not to push the wedge against fibers. To remove the wedge,use two hands to pull on both ends (near the groove plate) Store the fibers temporarily on a tray (picture shows the case of a loopback) Storing dark fibers can be done in different ways. 1) Organise dark fibers into the different trays, following instructions as described. 2) Organise dark fibers together into the first available tray (i.e. with a max. of 24cut or 12 loops primary coated fibers in one SE-tray). 6 Fiber routing on tray 8.1 Take the splice protector and put it centred towards the splice holder 5.9 Route the fiber in the grooves of the wraparound groove plates to the entrance of the identified tray. Fiber must be routed in the groove below the hinge of the tray! 6.2 SMOUV in SE tray. 18

20 8 Grounding/shielding Grounding or shielding might in some cases reduce the port capacity. For details, contact the local sales person. 8.1 Connect the grounding wire to the multiduct shield. 8.4 In case of shielding, connect the wires to the multiducts (point 8.1 and 8.2) and connect the wires to each other with the connector as shown. 8.2 Put PVC tape underneath and on top. 8.5 Cut the excessive length of the wires. 8.3 Put the eyelet (other side of the wire) underneath the washer and nut (grounding). Make a connection with the earth at the bottom side of the closure. 20

21 9 Closing the closure 9.1 Remove the outer bag and place the Silica gel in the closure (be careful, do not disturb any fiber or tube routing) 9.2 Place the o-ring back on a clean base and place the dome on top of it. 9.3 Close with clamp. 10 Important steps during installations Make sure that grooves on the wraparound groove plate are clean. Clean the fibers. Be sure that fibers are not stored to tight in the trays, to prevent stress on the fibers. Loose tubes routed up to the tube holder should be routed in such a way that one still has complete acces of the stored tubes between UMS profile.this is needed for later routing of loose tubes from the loops to the tube holders without creating crossings and without creating disturbtions on the loose tubes allready routed up to the tube holders. Use correct lengths in the tubeholder. Make sure not to loose ID. Use only 45mm long SMOUV. Be secure when preparing window cut on loose tube cable for storing uncut fibers. Avoid in all cases crossings of fibers and loose tubes in the cable brackets. Replace the Silica gel each time the closure has been opened. Do not place the aluminum protection foil too deep in the heatshrink. 11 Re-arrangement Avoid to pull fibers inbetween groove plates. Avoid fiber movement between tubeholder and first containment lip on the routing block. Take special care rearanging fibers from E to O side or reverse. If accidentaly active fibers are removed from the containment devices,reposition them carefully. 21
