3 Act 1: Finding the Treasure Map Scene The Admiral Benbow - we see a sign made by the cast who are sitting frozen in the inn with mugs of pop - they are local farmers. MUSIC CUE 1 NARRATOR: It started when I was a young lad (the NARRATOR puts a hat on the child playing Jim) and my mother ran an inn called The Admiral Benbow. One day we had a fierce man come and stay with us called Billy Bones. BILLY BONES Walks in looking suspiciously at everyone. BILLY BONES: Yo, ho, ho and bottle of rum NARRATOR: He frightened everyone with his stories of pirates, sea battles, sharks, and his songs. During this the cast are leaning forward listening as BILLY BONES tells his stories JIM is next to him. Everyone is frightened, he comes to a conclusion, they all gasp, then he breaks into song. BILLY BONES: Sing you swabs, sing, ALL: What shall we do with the drunken sailor. What shall we do with the drunken sailor What shall we do with the drunken sailor Early in the morning BILLY BONES: Get out you swabs. Aagh Billy Bones swings his sword over his head they run out scared stage left and right and get ready as soldiers and pirates. BILLY BONES then grabs JIM. NARRATOR Billy Bones grabbed Jim and said: BILLY BONES: If you ever see any pirates tell me. JIM goes outside and looks. BILLY BONES looks around with telescope. NARRATOR: I looked and looked until one day a blind man came and said.. BLIND PEW: (stage right grabs JIM and makes him jump) Who will help a poor blind man? BLIND PEW: Where s Billy Bones. 3

4 JIM takes him to the captain. BLIND PEW: Billy the crew wants the treasure map. BILLY BONES: Have this instead. BILLY BONES swings his sword over his head at BLIND PEW ducks then moves out of the way and escapes to stage left. BLIND PEW: (from a distance). The pirate crew will be back for the map. BILLY BONES: He is exhausted and out of breath he gasps. Fetch me help Jim, they re after me treasure map. He collapses exhausted. JIM runs for help in slow motion to stage right, the pirates enter stage left side in slow motion saying the likes of get the map ha, ha they are rummaging in cupboards etc. NARRATOR: The pirates came crashing into the Inn searching for the map as I ran to the village to get the Judge and his men. And we made it back just in time. JUDGE and SOLDIERS: (in real time) Stop in the name of the law. MUSIC CUE 2 JUDGE enters with JIM and marching soldiers stage right in slow motion. PIRATES: Runaway.. aaaaah They run away. The soldiers guard the Inn whilst one goes in to check BILLY BONES lying down. JUDGE: What did they want Jim? JIM: They wanted his treasure. SOLDIER: He s died of shock sir. JUDGE: See what s in his trunk. JIM: A treasure map Everyone turns and looks at the map and Billy Bones sits up looks at the map, the pirates, the audience, then falls back dead with a scream. Aghhhhhhh End of act 1 4

10 Act 2: The Journey The cast are in vertical lines to the audience miming unloading or loading a ship. Some are passing boxes in a chain, some are carrying them on or off the ships. Mixed in between these vertical lines are pirates talking and looking around furtively. Stage right is JUDGE, JIM, CAPTAIN, and SOLDIERS. Stage left is LONG JOHN SILVER. NARRATOR: So we went to Bristol to find a ship. MUSIC CUE 3 The cast do a jig in their set positions. NARRATOR: The judge hired a captain and a beautiful ship for his secret mission. All he needed was an honest crew but he talked a bit too much and too loudly. JUDGE shakes hands with the CAPTAIN.. JUDGE: (bombastically). Got the ship for our adventure. JIM,CAPTAIN and SOLDIERS: Ssh The word adventure passes along a line of PIRATES to LONG JOHN SILVER. JUDGE: Got the map. JIM,CAPTAIN and SOLDIERS: Ssh The word Map passes along a line to LONG JOHN SILVER. JUDGE: Then we can get the treasure. JIM,CAPTAIN and SOLDIERS: Ssh The word Treasure passes along a line to LONG JOHN SILVER. MUSIC 4 LONG SILVER: I ear you re looking for a crew. JUDGE: Yes. And who might you be? LONG JOHN SILVER: I m Long John Silver and here s an honest crew. The whispering PIRATES bunch together looking dastardly and evil. LONG JOHN SILVER growls at them, they all pull innocent faces. Captain takes Judge and Jim to stage front, soldiers lean forward to listen. CAPTAIN: They look a bad lot to me 10

11 The whispering PIRATES bunch together looking dastardly and evil. Judge,Captain and Jim turn round the pirates all pull innocent faces, the soldiers stand back to attention. JUDGE: I will take you all. PIRATES: Hurray A whistle blows and all the cast form a ship. MUSIC CUE 5, to cover change. One as a figure head one on the wheel four on the capstan, four either side with ribbons coming to a point for the shape of the ship THE JUDGE, JIM, CAPTAIN, LONG JOHN SILVER AND THE SOLDIERS are on the upper deck by the wheel with telescopes. The upper deck could be made by putting sports benches together if it proves safe. They all move with sea legs wobble when they are on deck it gets stronger as the weather gets worse. NARRATOR: So we set sail for the Caribbean. CAPTAIN: Hoist the sails. MUSIC CUE 6 NARRATOR: We met all sorts of weather: strong winds. NARRATOR: Storms. All the cast sways about from one side to another. Chinese ribbons go crazy. NARRATOR: To no wind, just the scorching sun. All the cast sit very bored sun bathing, sleeping etc. NARRATOR: Long John Silver was very kind to me until one night when my friends the Captain, Judge and his men were asleep (gentle snoring) I overheard Long John Silver talking to the crew. LONG JOHN SILVER: I am your pirate captain and I say when we steal the ship and the treasure. The PIRATES mumble aggressively. LONG JOHN SILVER: Everyone agree PIRATES: Aye, Aye Captain. NARRATOR: I was shocked to hear that Long John Silver and the crew were pirates and I was frightened they would find me. 11

The ship can then be coloured in make sure to colour the background blue so it blends in with the backdrop. Again stick either 2 rulers or 2 pencils (or anything else appropriate) on the back at each end with plenty of tape UZN(*4 Draw an island on some yellow card/paper (if using white card,then colour or paint it yellow). On the front write LAND and then stick another stick (ruler/ pencil) on the back. 14

20 ACT 3: THE BATTLE Judge, Jim, Captain and his Men are on the upper deck. Jim talks to the Judge, Captain and his Men. The pirates are already in the boat NARRATOR: I told my friends the Captain, Judge and his men what I had heard. JIM: Sir Long John silver and the Crew are Pirates. JUDGE: What CAPTAIN, JIM and SOLDIERS: Sssh CAPTAIN: Pretend we know nothing. Take a break ashore men. The PIRATES shout Hurrah and row off. NARRATOR: Long John Silver insisted I went with him. LONG JOHN SILVER: Come on Jim lad. NARRATOR: I climbed down into the boat and we rowed to the island. LONG JOHN SILVER: Heave, Ho.. The JUDGE and co sit down as the rowing boat gets nearer to the island as if disappearing on the horizon. BEN GUN hiding behind them. NARRATOR: When we got to the Island I ran away. JIM Runs away as they pull up to shore. LONG JOHN SILVER: Catch the boy. But don t hurt him. PIRATES: Aagh The pirates stand up and run on the spot, then creep on the spot, then turn into scary tress. NARRATOR: I ran and I ran and I ran, then I crept and I crept and I crept, until I found myself in dark forest full of ugly scary trees. Then suddenly. A scream is heard. The scary trees/pirates crowd around the back JIM. Then BEN GUN jumps out from the back of the crowd. JIM screams BEN GUN screams. 20

21 JIM: Who are you? BEN GUN: I m Ben Gun, have you got any cheese. NARRATOR: This is Ben Gun. He was BENGUN: Cheese? NARRATOR: No, marooned by pirates because he couldn t find the.. BENGUN: Cheese? NARRATOR: treasure and now all he want is. BENGUN: Cheese? NARRATOR: I trusted him so I told him about my friends. JIM: My friends the Captain, Judge and his men came to look for treasure but Long John Silver and the crew are pirates. BEN GUN: I ll help you if you take me back to England. NARRATOR: Then we heard gun fire. My friends had left the ship to come and find me and were on the island fighting the pirates. MUSIC CUE 7 Ben Gun runs off stageright followed by Jim. The trees turn and become pirates again. Slow motion battle sequence they use swords and swing them above their heads. 27 Act 4 - Treasure Hunt The Pirates are lying on the floor sleeping. The Judge, Captain, Soldiers, Ben Gun and Jim are at the front of the stage and follow the Narration. NARRATOR: That night Ben Gun came to meet our friends. Jim, Captain, Judge and his men put out hands to shake hands and Ben Gun says: BEN GUN: Cheese NARRATOR: We were all very worried. Jim, Captain, Ben Gun, Judge and his men: put hands each side of face and look worried. Freeze NARRATOR: The pirates had the ship and there were a lot more of them than us. Jim, Captain, Ben Gun, Judge and his men: shake their knees and hands and look very frightened. Freeze. NARRATOR: But I had a good idea, while my friends were thinking what to do. Jim, Captain, Ben Gun, Judge and his men: hands on chin looking very thoughtful. Freeze. NARRATOR: I sneaked off into the night, rowed out to the ship, killed the pirate on guard (scream), and hid the ship on the other side of the island. Jim pretends to creep away, row out to the ship climb aboard and then hide behind the ship, then scream. NARRATOR: Meanwhile, unknown to me, my friends had decided to find the pirates and were hiding in the bushes watching them. Ben Gun, Captain, Judge and his men, crouch at the sides watching the pirates. NARRATOR: But when I returned to tell them the good news I got lost, and had a very nasty surprise. Pirates jump up and surround Jim. LONG JOHN SILVER: Ah shipmate. You are our hostage now. Give us the Treasure Map ALL PIRATES: AHA NARRATOR: So I gave them the map and the next morning we set off for the treasure. 27

28 The PIRATES spread out and walk on the spot, being very boisterous miming carrying picks and shovels. LONG JOHN SILVER is at the front of the pirates with Jim they respond to what the NARRATOR says. NARRATOR: At first we marched fast and everyone was very excited, but soon we grew tired in the hot midday sun. After a long climb up spy glass hill we found the first point on the map. It was a skeleton. LONG JOHN SILVER, JIM, BEN GUN, CAPTAIN, JUDGE AND HIS MEN shoot at pirates, while they swing their swords above their heads, they fall over like dominoes, pretending to be dead. NARRATOR: It turned out that Ben Gun had found the treasure and hidden it in his cave.he agreed to share it with us. So we loaded on to the ship and set sail for home.
