10 1.1 Introduction Figure 1: ivw-fh122 The ivw-fh122 video wall controller box is for displaying a single video input on an array of monitors, implementing a large display without the inherent high costs of a single large monitor. The ivw-fh122 is for large displays where high definition video output is also essential. The video wall controller accepts a single HDMI input, which is split over all the monitors in the array. 1.2 Benefits The benefits of the ivw-fh122 include: Accurate, high-definition image Silent operation Simple setup Cheap implementation of a large display Major power savings over PC-based implementation Space saving 1.3 Features The features of the ivw-fh122 include: Page 2

17 2.1 Anti-static Precautions ivw-fh122 Video Wall Controller When the ivw-fh122 is unpacked, please do the following: Follow the anti-static precautions Make sure the packing box is facing upwards so the ivw-fh122 does not fall out of the box. 20 3.1 Requirements NOTE: The ivw-fh122 requires all attached components to comply with the specifications. If any attached item does not meet specifications, the ivw-fh122 may not work as desired. Before installation, make sure the minimum hardware requirements are met Monitors The monitors attached to the video wall controller must support the specified output resolution. The exact requirement depends on the installation. For best results, the monitors should all be identical Cables One dual-link HDMI cable is included with the ivw-fh122. The following cables are required for installation: Video card to video wall controller: one HDMI cable (included) Video wall controller to monitors: each monitor requires an HDMI cable Page 12
21 3.2 Panel Setup Options The ivw-fh122 supports multiple panel setups as shown in the subsections below. Dark black sections indicate the panels for the installation, and the bold number indicate which video output. To setup, connect the monitors as shown below Install LCD Panels The monitors should be installed in one of the configurations shown in the previous section. Recommended installation procedures are to: Use all identical monitors Minimize gaps between panels for the best image Maintain consistent horizontal gaps between monitors Maintain consistent vertical gaps between monitors 3.4 Mount Video Wall Controller The ivw-fh122 must be placed on a table, desk or other firm surface. Optionally, the ivw-fh122 can be mounted using the included mounting brackets. The installation location must be: Out of direct sunlight Without anything on top of it On a firm surface Away from moisture and liquids Page 13
22 3.5 Connect Cables ivw-fh122 Video Wall Controller The cables that need to be attached are listed below: Video input cable from the video source or computer with HDMI video output Video output cables attached to the LCD panels. Make sure the cables are connected to the correct monitors and connected securely. Power cable from the power adapter Connect the HDMI Cables To connect the HDMI cables to the video wall controller, follow the instructions below. Step 1: Attach the included HDMI cable to the HDMI input on the video wall controller and the HDMI output on the video source (usually the computer). Step 2: Attach the HDMI cables from the video wall controller HDMI outputs to the monitors. Attach the HDMI cables as shown in the installation section Connect the ivw-fh122 to the Power Supply Connect the included PSU into an AC power supply then connect the PSU to the ivw-fh122. Turn the ivw-fh122 on using the power switch. 3.6 Resolution and Display Mode Charts The display modes are automatically set according to the input resolution. The input and output resolutions are shown in the following subsections. Page 14

The bezel settings are set using the smartosd. Page 16

27 4.1 Onscreen OSD The OSD menu functions are described below OSD Buttons There are several on-screen-display (OSD) control buttons as shown in the diagram below. 29 Display Resolution The Display Resolution setting shows the resolution of the video image output. Display output setting options are shown below. 720p 1080p Display Mode The display mode option configures how the image is displayed on the screen. 1 x 1 2 x 1 2 x 2 Mode 1 Mode 2 Mode 3 Mode 4 DEFAULT The video input is cloned on all the monitors The video input is shown on the top two panels and repeated on the bottom two. The video input is tiled over all the panels. Same as 2 x 2, but the top left panel shows the full image Same as 2 x 2, but the top right panel shows the full image Same as 2 x 2, but the bottom left panel shows the full image Same as 2 x 2, but the bottom right panel shows the full image Mask Control The Mask control compensates for the gaps between monitors in the video wall array. These settings are shown in Page 21
30 Mask Control ivw-fh122 Video Wall Controller The mask control menu adjusts the mask settings. The mask settings compensate for the gaps between monitors in the video wall array. The mask control options are shown and described below. Figure 9: Mask Control Horizontal Mask Sets the horizontal mask. Vertical Mask Sets the vertical mask. Mask Control The mask control option turns the mask control on and off. Off DEFAULT The video wall controller doesn t compensate for the gap between monitors Page 22

32 4.1.4 System Menu System menu options are shown and described in the subsections below. Figure 10: Display Menu Factory Reset Factory reset returns all the settings to the factory default settings. Information Shows video wall controller version information. The information details are shown in Misc Misc allows other OSD features to be adjusted. Misc options are shown in Page 24
33 Identify Monitors Identify monitors displays the monitor s ID on the screen Information The information screen shows some basic information about the video wall controller and the monitor. The details are described below. 34 Miscellaneous ivw-fh122 Video Wall Controller The miscellaneous menu allows the option to go to the OSD setup menu. Figure 12: Input Select OSD Configuration Adjusts the rotation of the OSD display and how long after inactivity the OSD display will close. Brightness Adjusts the display brightness. Contrast Adjusts the display contrast. Page 26
35 4.2 Remote Control The ivw-fh122 comes with a remote control for easy configuration of OSD settings. Below shows the remote control and its function keys. Figure 13: Remote Control Power. Moves the selection up. Down. Moves the selection down. Auto/Exit. Exits from any menu. 4.3 smartosd smartosd is a proprietary On-Screen-Display (OSD) software solution that enables easy, remote monitor setting adjustments in a Windows environment. smartosd delivers Page 27
36 excellent performance and provides more flexibility than the typical OSD hardware solutions when adjusting a monitor. smartosd also allows the screen output screen resolution and mask size to be adjusted over an HDMI cable. The smartosd can compatible with the following operating systems. Windows XP Windows Vista Windows Installation To install the software, please follow the steps below: Step 1: Follow the instructions from the interactive installer to install the smartosd on the system. Step 2: Insert the installation disk that came with the system and open the installation file. Page 28

Figure 24: File Menu Step 1: The file menu is for saving and loading settings files. Select Load File to retrieve the settings from a saved file and apply those settings to the video wall controller. 48 5.1 Anti-static Precautions ivw-fh122 Video Wall Controller WARNING: Failure to take ESD precautions during the installation of the ivw-fh122 may result in permanent damage to the ivw-fh122 and severe injury to the user. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can cause serious damage to electronic components, including the ivw-fh122. Dry climates are especially susceptible to ESD. It is therefore critical that whenever the ivw-fh122, or any other electrical component is handled, the following anti-static precautions are strictly adhered to. Wear an anti-static wristband: - Wearing a simple anti-static wristband can help to prevent ESD from damaging the board. Use an anti-static pad: - When configuring the ivw-fh122, place it on an antic-static pad. This reduces the possibility of ESD damaging the ivw-fh Maintenance Overview Note: There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Make sure to carefully follow all the instructions in this section to diagnose any problems. If the problem persists, ds_sales@indstech.com for help from a sales representative To preserve the working integrity, the ivw-fh122 must be properly maintained. If components need replacement, the proper maintenance procedures must be followed to ensure normal operation. 5.3 Troubleshooting This section provides some simple troubleshooting suggestions. 49 5.3.1 No Image on One Monitor ivw-fh122 Video Wall Controller If there is no image on one monitor, follow these steps to remedy the problem Check Monitor Power Step 1: Check that the monitor is turned on. Step 2: Check that the power source for the monitor is turned on. Step 3: Check that the power source has the correct power rating (check panel specifications for details). Step 4: Make sure the LCD panel power cables are securely fastened to the monitor and to the power source Check Monitor Video Connection Check to see that the video cable is fitted correctly. Step 1: Check that the monitor is connected to the ivw-fh122. Step 2: Securely attach the video cable to the panel and to the ivw-fh122. Step 3: Fasten the video cable at both ends and tighten the video cable screws No Image on Two or More Monitors If there is no image on more than one of the panels, then repeat the steps for all of the monitors in the array No Image on Any Monitor If no image displays on any monitors, repeat the steps for all the monitors in the array, then try the following additional steps. 50 Check Video Wall Controller s Power Make sure that the video wall controller is powered on. Step 1: Check the power supply is connected to the power source. Step 2: Check that the ivw-fh122 is connected to the power supply Check Source Video Connection Check to that the source video cable is securely connected to the ivw-fh122. Step 1: Securely attach the video cable from the video source to the ivw-fh122. Step 2: Fasten the video cable at both ends and tighten the video cable screws. Page 42
