1 Hookup Recommendation This hookup guide is a general recommendation based on the information you provided about the equipment you are connecting, available input jacks, and the types of connection cables you want to use. You may customize the connections to suit your individual preferences. Alternate Cable Options Some hookup scenarios are offered with alternate cable-type options. If your hookup can be connected the same way with two different types of cables, for example composite video or S- Video, a table will be provided with the complete list of cables needed for each type of hookup. You will not need all the cables in the table, just the cables from the list that corresponds with the type of hookup you want. You may also choose to use a combination of the cables, rather than one type throughout. Common connection labels The hookup instructions are written using generic names for connection jacks. The labels on your equipment may vary. Refer to the table below for some of the possible label variations: Generic label used in hookup instructions RF IN, RF OUT LINE IN, LINE OUT AUDIO IN, AUDIO OUT MONITOR Possible connection labels on equipment UHF/VHF, CABLE, LINE, TV VIDEO FIXED, VARIABLE TO TV, VIDEO OUT If you do not have a cable box or satellite receiver The hookup instructions include details on how to connect a cable box or satellite receiver. If you are using a direct connection without a set-top box, disregard the steps involving the cable box or satellite receiver and connect the coaxial cable from the wall or antenna to the RF IN jack on the device to which the instructions say to connect the cable box or satellite receiver. If you are not connecting a cable or satellite source or inside antenna, disregard the instructions involving the cable box or satellite receiver and proceed to the steps that involve the equipment you are connecting. Operation This guide provides steps for basic operation of your equipment according to the specified hookup. Equipment will vary by brand and model. 3 How to Connect a Cable Box or Satellite Receiver and a DVD Player to a Television Using HDMI Cables Why we recommend this hookup: We recommend this hookup to view cable or satellite service and DVD movies on your television with optimum video quality. This connection should be used if your television, cable box or satellite receiver, and DVD player have HDMI jacks. If your television has a DVI jack instead of an HDMI jack, you can use a HDMI to DVI adapter and a composite audio cable. What you will need: HDMI Connection HDMI-to-DVI Connection 2 HDMI cables 2 Composite Audio cables 2 HDMI cables 2 HDMI to DVI Adapters Connection instructions: 1. Connect the coaxial cable from the wall the RF IN jack on the back of cable box or satellite receiver. 2. Connect the HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT jack on the back of the cable box or satellite receiver. 3. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN jack on the IMPORTANT: If the TV has a DVI jack instead of an HDMI jack follow the sub steps below. a. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN jack on the HDMI-to-DVI adapter. b. Connect the HDMI-to-DVI adapter to the DVI IN jack on the c. Connect the composite audio cable to the AUDIO OUT jack on the cable box or satellite receiver. d. Connect the other end of the composite audio cable to the AUDIO IN jack located next to or near the DVI jack on the back of the television. 3

4 4. Connect one end of the second HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT jack on the back of the DVD player. 5. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN jack on the IMPORTANT: If the TV has a DVI jack instead of an HDMI jack, follow the sub steps below. a. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN jack on the HDMI-to-DVI adapter. b. Connect the HDMI-to-DVI adapter to the DVI IN jack on the c. Connect the composite audio cable to the AUDIO OUT jack on the DVD player. d. Connect the other end of the composite audio cable to the AUDIO IN jack located next to or near the DVI jack on the back of the television. NOTE: If your television has only one HDMI or DVI jack, connect one of your devices to the television using a component (Y/Pb/Pr) video cable and a composite audio cable. Test the hookup to verify the equipment is working correctly: 2. Turn on the cable box or satellite receiver. 3. Use television remote control to tune the television to the HDMI video input in which the cable box or satellite receiver is connected, for example, VIDEO 5. If there is picture and sound on the television, you have connected the cable box/satellite receiver correctly. 4. Turn on the DVD player 5. Use the television remote control to tune the television to the HDMI video input in which the DVD player is connected, for example, VIDEO Insert a DVD movie. 7. Press the Play button on the DVD player remote control. If there is picture and sound from the DVD player on the television, you have connected the DVD player correctly.
