ReSound s nnovatve sound technology and desgn, combned wth the customzed programmng selected by your hearng care professonal, wll make hearng a more enjoyable experence. Please read ths manual carefully n order to wholly beneft from the use of your hearng ads. Wth proper care, mantenance, and usage, your hearng ads wll serve you n better communcaton for many years. Ask your hearng care professonal f you have any questons. 2 Intended use Generc ar-conducton hearng ads are wearable sound-amplfyng devces ntended to compensate for mpared hearng. 5 3 Becomng accustomed to amplfcaton Whle purchasng a hearng ad s a major step, t s only one step n a process toward more comfortable hearng. Successfully adaptng to the amplfcaton your hearng ad provdes takes tme and consstent use. You wll enjoy more benefts from your ReSound hearng ad by takng the followng actons: Wear the hearng ad regularly n order to get comfortable wth usng t. It takes tme to get used to a hearng ad. It may help to begn by wearng your hearng ad for short perods even as lttle as 15 mnutes and then gradually ncreasng your wearng tme. In a way, t s no dfferent from adjustng to contact lenses. Speak to your hearng care professonal, who can desgn a schedule talored just for you. As you get more comfortable wth the hearng ad, ncrease the wearng tme and wear your hearng ad n multple types of lstenng envronments. It may take as long as several months for your bran to get used to all the new sounds around you. 12 6.2 Recognzng left and rght hearng ad If you have two hearng ads, they may be tuned dfferently. One for your left ear, the other for your rght. Do not swap them. Please pay attenton to ths when cleanng, storng and nsertng the hearng ads. Left Rght You mght want to ask your hearng care practtoner to mark your hearng ads wth a colored Left and Rght ndcaton: Left s blue and Rght s red US Rev.A.ndd :52:43

13 7 Gettng started Once you have placed the hearng ads on your ears, you can turn them on. The hearng ad always starts n program 1 and wth the pre-set volume. 7.1 On On/Off functon 1. Close the battery door to turn on the hearng ad n program 1 (one). 2. Open the battery door to turn off the hearng ad. Use your fngernal to pull t open. Off Smart Start Smart Start delays the tme before the hearng ad turns on after you close the battery door. Wth Smart Start, you wll hear a beep ( etc.) for each second of the delay perod (5 or 10 seconds delay). If you do not want to turn on the hearng ads pror to placng them on your ear, ask your hearng care professonal to de-actvate Smart Start Insertng/Replacng the battery 1. Open the battery door completely by usng your fngernal. Remove the used battery f present. 2. Prepare the new battery (please refer to page 2 for nformaton on approprate battery type/sze for your hearng ad). Remove the protectve fol to actvate the battery Wat for 2 mnutes before nsertng the battery nto the hearng ad US Rev.A.ndd :52:44

14 4. Insert the new battery wth the postve sde n the correct poston. Always nsert the battery n the door: never drectly nto the hearng ad. 5. Gently close the battery door. 1. Always use new Znc-Ar batteres that have a mnmum remanng shelf lfe of 1 year. 2. Whenever the hearng ads are not n use, remember to turn them off to avod unnecessary battery consumpton. 3. At nght, swtch off the hearng ad and open the battery door completely to allow mosture to evaporate and prolong the hearng ad s lfespan. 4. If the hearng ad s experencng frequent loss of connecton to ReSound wreless accessores, contact your hearng care professonal for a lst of low mpedance batteres. WARNING: Batteres contan dangerous substances and should be dsposed of carefully n the nterest of your safety and for the envronment. Also, keep batteres away from pets, chldren and mentally dsabled persons. 7.3 Low battery ndcator The hearng ad wll reduce amplfcaton and play a melody f battery power gets too low. Ths sgnal wll recur every 15 mnutes untl the hearng ad automatcally swtches off. NOTE: Keep spare batteres on hand US Rev.A.ndd :52:44

15 7.3.1 Low-Battery Indcator when usng ZPower Rechargeable System The acoustcal low-battery ndcator, dscussed n the above, wll not functon n the same way when used wth the ZPower Rechargeable System due to the battery desgn. As soon as the ndcator s actvated (or heard), connect the hearng nstrument to the charger provded to you or replace wth non-rechargeable Znc-Ar batteres. It s recommended that you keep a supply of non-rechargeable Znc-Ar batteres to use n case you do not have your charger wth you, or do not have the tme to re-charge the battery wth your charger Low battery ndcator when pared wth wreless accessores only The batteres dran faster when you use wreless functonaltes lke drect streamng from your Phone or streamng sound from your TV wth our TV Streamer. When the batteres deplete, the support of some ReSound wreless accessores shut down. Full functonalty returns when you nsert a new battery. The table below shows how the functonalty decreases wth the depleton of the batteres. 16 7.4 Insert/Remove hearng ad For comfort, always turn off your hearng ads before you nsert or remove them Insert earmold 1. Hold the earmold between your thumb and ndex fnger and poston ts sound outlet n your ear canal. 2. Slde the earmold all the way nto your ear wth a gentle, twstng movement. 3. Move the earmold up and down and gently press to place t correctly n the ear. Openng and closng your mouth can ease nserton. 4. Make sure the hearng ad sts frmly behnd the ear. By expermentng, you may dscover an easer method. Wth proper nserton, hearng ads should ft snugly but comfortably. NOTE: It may be helpful to pull your ear up and outward wth your opposte hand durng nserton. CAUTION: Never attempt to modfy the shape of the hearng ad, earmolds, or tubng yourself US Rev.A.ndd :52:46

17 7.4.2 Remove earmold 1. Lft the hearng ad from behnd the ear. For a moment, let t hang besde your ear. 2. Gently pull the removal cord (not the hearng ad or the tubng) to pull the hearng ad from the ear. NOTE: For thn tube custom earmolds, grasp the removal cord and pull the earmold outward. 3. Remove the earmold completely by gently twstng t Insert thn tube wth dome 1. Hang the hearng ad over the top of the ear. 2. Hold the thn tube where t bends and gently place/push the dome nto the ear canal. Push the dome far enough nto the ear canal so that the thn tube les flush wth the head (check wth a mrror). NOTE: To avod whstlng, t s mportant that the tube and the dome ft correctly nto your ear. For other possble reasons, check wth the Troubleshootng gude. 18 7.4.4 Remove thn tube wth dome 1. Hold the thn tube wth your thumb and forefnger and remove the tube Sports lock Your hearng care professonal wll apply and adjust the Sports lock. 7.5 Operaton of the hearng ad Push button and Mult-functon button If you have a hearng ad wth a push button or mult-functon button, ths wll allow you to use up to four dfferent lstenng programs, each of them sutable for certan stuatons. 1. Tap the push button to swtch between programs. 2. You wll then hear one or more beeps. The number of beeps ndcates whch program you have selected (one beep = program one, two beeps = program two, etc.). 3. When you turn the hearng ads off and then back on, they always return to the default settng (program one and pre-set volume). It should not be necessary to control the volume manually. However, n addton to controllng lstenng programs, the mult-functon button (62-DRW only) and push button (61 models) provdes you the ablty to adjust the amplfcaton to your lkng. The mult-functon button s desgned to change the volume or lstenng programs of the hearng ad, based on dfferent ways t s pressed US Rev.A.ndd :52:47

20 NOTE: If you have two hearng ads wth the Synchronzed Push Button enabled, program changes to one hearng ad automatcally repeats n the second hearng ad. When you change a program n one hearng ad, t responds wth one or more beeps. The same number of confrmaton beeps n the second ad follow. Ths Synchronzed Push Button can also be confgured to allow one sde to control volume ncreases and the other sde to control volume decreases. The volume changes to one hearng ad are repeated on the other sde to keep the levels the same US Rev.A.ndd :52:47

21 8 Telephone use Your hearng ad allows you to use the telephone as you ordnarly do. Fndng the optmal poston for holdng a telephone may requre practce. One or more of the followng suggestons may be helpful: 1. Hold the telephone up to your ear. 2. Hold the telephone towards the top of the ear (closer to where the mcrophones are). 3. If whstlng occurs, t may take a few seconds of holdng the telephone n the same poston before the hearng ad elmnates the feedback. 4. Whstlng may stop by holdng the telephone slghtly away from the ear. NOTE: Dependng on your ndvdual needs, your hearng care professonal may actvate a program specfcally for telephone use. 8.1 Usng ReSound Smart Hearng Ads wth Phone, Pad, and Pod touch (optonal) ReSound LNX 3D hearng ads are Made for Phone, and allow for drect communcaton and control wth an Phone, Pad, or Pod touch. NOTE: For assstance wth parng and usng these products wth your ReSound LNX 3D devce, please contact your hearng care professonal US Rev.A.ndd :52:47

22 8.2 Usng ReSound hearng ads wth smart phone apps Use wth smart phone apps: Notfcatons of app updates should not be dsabled, and t s recommended that the user nstalls all updates to ensure that the app wll functon correctly and wll be kept up to date. The app must only be used wth ReSound devces for whch t s ntended, and ReSound takes no responsblty f the app s used wth other devces. If you would lke a prnted verson of the user gude for a smart phone app, please consult customer support or go to our webste at Cellular phones Your hearng ad comples wth the most strngent Standards of Internatonal Electromagnetc Compatblty. However, not all cell phones are hearng ad compatble (HAC). Any degree of dsturbance can be due to the nature of your partcular cellular phone or of your wreless telephone servce provder. NOTE: If you fnd t dffcult to obtan a good result whle usng your cellular phone, your hearng care professonal wll be able to gve you advce on avalable wreless accessores to enhance lstenng capabltes. 8.4 Phone Now The Phone Now functon automatcally swtches your present lstenng program to your telephone program when a telephone recever, equpped wth a magnet, s close to your ear. When you remove the US Rev.A.ndd :52:47

23 telephone recever from your ear, the hearng ad automatcally returns to the prevous lstenng program Placement of Phone Now magnets Place Phone Now magnet on your telephone recever to allow operaton of the Phone Now functon. In order to place Phone Now magnet properly: 1. Clean the telephone recever thoroughly. 2. Hold the telephone vertcally, n a poston smlar to when makng a telephone call. 3. Place the magnets just below the telephone recever. Make sure not to cover the mcrophone openngs. If necessary, move the magnet to another poston to mprove ease of use and comfort whle speakng. NOTE: If you are not satsfed wth the strength of Phone Now, you can reposton the Phone Now magnet or add addtonal Phone Now magnets. NOTE: Pror to placng the magnet on the telephone or cell phone, use a recommended cleanng agent to clean the telephone Phone Now usage 1. Use your telephone n a normal manner. 2. A short melody ndcates that the Phone Now feature has automatcally swtched on the telephone program US Rev.A.ndd :52:47

24 NOTE: Intally, you may need to move the telephone recever slghtly to fnd the best poston for relable Phone Now actvaton and good hearng on the telephone. If you have two hearng ads Comfort Phone functonalty enabled, the hearng ad on the non phone ear automatcally reduces the volume. 8.5 Telecol (62-DRW only) Your hearng ad may be equpped wth a telecol. The Telecol program may help to mprove speech understandng wth Hearng Ad Compatble telephones and n theaters, cnemas, houses of worshp etc. that has tele-loop nstalled. The telecol cannot work wthout a tele-loop (a.k.a. nducton-loop) or a Hearng Ad Compatble (HAC) telephone. When you swtch on the Telecol program, your hearng ads pck up sgnals from the tele-loop or HAC telephone. NOTE: If you are havng trouble hearng wth the tele-loop, ask your hearng care professonal to adjust the program. NOTE: If there s no sound from the hearng ads n a tele-loop system and an actve Telecol program, the tele-loop system may not be turned on or may not be operatng correctly US Rev.A.ndd :52:47

25 8.5.1 Tele loop systems To use tele loop systems, follow these steps: 1. Swtch your hearng ad to the Telecol program. 2. Fnd a good spot. Recepton s not clear n all locatons as t depends on the nducton loop. Look for sgns or move to a dfferent spot. 3. If needed, adjust the volume. 4. When you leave, swtch to program HAC Telephone The telecol pcks up the HAC telephone s telecol sgnal and converts t to sounds. To use the HAC telephone, follow these steps: 1. Swtch your hearng ad to the Telecol program. 2. Pck up the telephone and place a call or answer a call. 3. Hold the telephone behnd your ear close to the hearng ad, and tlt t slghtly outwards. 4. Lsten to the dal tone and move the telephone to get the best recepton. 5. If needed, adjust the volume. 6. When you hang up, swtch to program 1. NOTE: If the phone has a poor telecol sgnal, try to use a mcrophone program. To avod whstlng, do not hold the handset too tghtly aganst your ear US Rev.A.ndd :52:48

26 8.6 Drect Audo Input (optonal) Your hearng ad s equpped wth a Drect Audo Input faclty. Drect Audo Input allows drect connecton of sound sources, a rado, televson or even school equpment, to your hearng ad. Often, ths wll mprove sound qualty. Audo shoe. For 62 model support. The hearng ad automatcally detects the Drect Audo Input (DAI) source. The DAI supports systems for wreless use as well. Your hearng ad professonal can adjust your hearng ads to ft the mx between the dgtal audo nput and the mcrophones on your hearng ads. You may, e.g. select to lower the ambent sounds and amplfy the sounds from the transmtter. Ths accessory connects to the bottom of the hearng ads. Once clcked nto place, the hearng ads automatcally mute the mcrophones and swtch to the DAI program US Rev.A.ndd :52:48

27 8.6.1 Connectng DAI 1. Algn the tp of the DAI clck-on adaptor wth the groove just above the battery door and below the model number. 2. Once n place, move the DAI clck-on adaptor n the drecton of the battery door. 3. Gently clck the DAI clck-on adaptor onto the hearng ad Dsconnectng DAI 1. Press and hold the button on the front sde of the DAI clck-on adaptor. 2. Gently remove the DAI clck-on adaptor from the hearng ad US Rev.A.ndd :52:49

28 8.7 Flght mode (optonal) WARNING: When boardng a flght or enterng an area where RF transmtters are prohbted, wreless functonalty must be deactvated. Your ReSound LNX 3D hearng ad can be controlled from your smart phone or ReSound Remote Control. However, n some areas you may be requested to turn off wreless communcaton. Follow these steps to turn off wreless mode: 1. For each hearng ad, open and close (open-close, open-close, open-close) the battery door three tmes wthn a 10-second perod. 2. Double-dngs for ten seconds ( etc.) ndcate that your hearng ad s n Flght mode. Follow these steps to actvate wreless mode: 1. For each hearng ad, open and close the battery door once. 2. Your hearng ads are n wreless mode after 10 seconds. NOTE: Both hearng ads must be set n Flght mode - even wth synchronzaton enabled. NOTE: It s mportant to wat an addtonal 15 seconds after wreless functon resumes before openng and closng the battery door agan for any reason. Flght mode wll resume f you open and close the battery door durng ths 15-second wndow. NOTE: Flght mode must be actvated by your clncan n order to be controlled US Rev.A.ndd :52:49

29 9 Tnntus Sound Generator (TSG) module 9.1 Intended use for the TSG module Your ReSound hearng ad ncludes the Tnntus Sound Generator functon, a tool for generatng sounds to be used n tnntus management programs to releve sufferng from tnntus. The Tnntus Sound Generator can generate sounds adjusted to the specfc therapeutc needs and your personal preference as determned by your doctor, audologst, or hearng care professonal. Dependng on the selected hearng ad program and the envronment you are n, you wll sometmes hear the therapeutc sound resemblng a contnuous or fluctuatng hummng. 9.2 User nstructons for the TSG module Descrpton of the devce The Tnntus Sound Generator (TSG) Module s a software tool that generates sounds to be used n tnntus management programs to releve sufferng from tnntus Explanaton of how the devce functons The TSG module s a frequency and ampltude shaped whte-nose generator. Nose sgnal level and frequency characterstcs can be adjusted to the specfc therapeutc needs as determned by your doctor, audologst or hearng care professonal. Your doctor, audologst or hearng care professonal can modulate the generated nose wth the purpose of makng t more pleasant. The nose can then resemble, for example, crashng waves on a shore US Rev.A.ndd :52:49

30 Modulaton level and speed can also be confgured to your lkes and needs. An addtonal feature can be enabled by your hearng care professonal that allows you to select predefned sounds that smulate sounds from nature, such as breakng waves or runnng water. If you have two wreless hearng ads that support ear-to-ear synchronzaton ths functonalty can be enabled by your hearng care professonal. Ths wll cause the Tnntus Sound Generator to synchronze the sound n both hearng ads. If your tnntus troubles you only n quet envronments, your doctor, audologst or hearng care professonal can set the TSG Module so that t becomes audble exclusvely n such surroundngs. The overall sound level can be adjusted va an optonal volume control. Your doctor, audologst or hearng care professonal wll revew wth you the need for havng such a control. For hearng ads where ear to ear synchronzaton s enabled your hearng care professonal can also enable envronmental montorng synchronzaton so that the TSG nose level s automatcally adjusted smultaneously n both hearng ads dependent on the background sound level. 31 9.3 Usng TSG wth smart phone apps The Tnntus Sound Generator control va hearng ad push buttons can be enhanced wth wreless control from a TSG control app on a smart phone or moble devce. Ths functonalty s avalable n supported hearng ads when a hearng care professonal has enabled the TSG functonalty durng fttng of the hearng ad. To use smart phone apps the hearng ad must be connected wth the smart phone or moble devce. 9.4 The scentfc concepts that form the bass for the devce The TSG module provdes sound enrchment wth the am of surroundng the tnntus sound wth a neutral sound, whch s easly gnored. Sound enrchment s an mportant component of most approaches to tnntus management, such as Tnntus Retranng Therapy (TRT). To assst habtuaton to tnntus, ths needs to be audble. The deal level of the TSG module, therefore, should be set so that t starts to blend wth the tnntus, and so that you can hear both your tnntus as well as the sound used. Good health practce requres that a person wth a tnntus condton have a medcal evaluaton by a lcensed physcan (preferably a physcan who specalzes n dseases of the ear) before usng a sound generator. Lcensed physcans who specalze n dseases of the ear are often referred to as otolaryngologsts, otologsts or otorhnolaryngologsts. The purpose of a medcal evaluaton s to assure that all medcally treatable condtons that may affect tnntus are dentfed and treated before the sound generator nstrument s used. 34 10 The recever tube The recever tube contans the wrng to the recever, whch delvers the sound to the ear canal. It s mportant that the recever tube and the recever dome/rie mold fts correctly n your ear. If the recever tube or the recever dome/rie mold rrtates your ear n any way and prevents you from wearng your hearng ad, please contact your hearng care professonal. You should never attempt to modfy the shape of the recever tube yourself. The recever tube and the recever dome/rie mold should be cleaned regularly. Please see cleanng nstructons n chapter How to apply domes It s recommended that your hearng care professonal shows you how to change the domes, because ncorrect dome replacement could result n the dome beng left n the ear when you remove the hearng ad ReSound domes Follow these steps to mount domes: 1. Follow these steps to mount domes: 1. Push the largest petal away from the thn tube usng a fnger. Ths bends the petal forward. 2. Push the new tulp dome over the flange. 3. Then push the largest petal backwards, and t wll be placed on top of the smaller petal. NOTE: It s mportant to note that the largest petal s the outermost petal. 4. 38 14 Care and mantenance Please follow the nstructons below to have the best user experence and to prolong the durablty of your hearng ads: 1. Keep your hearng ad clean and dry. Wpe the case wth a soft cloth or tssue after use to remove grease or mosture. Do not use water or solvents, as these can damage the hearng ad(s). 2. Never mmerse hearng ads n water or other lquds, as lquds may cause permanent damage to the hearng ads. 3. Avod rough handlng of hearng ads or droppng them on hard surfaces or floors. 4. Do not leave hearng ads n or near drect heat or sunlght, such as n a hot, parked car, as excessve heat can cause damage or deform the casng. 5. Do not wear your hearng ad whle showerng, swmmng, n heavy ran or n a most atmosphere such as a steam bath or sauna. 6. If your hearng ad does get wet, or f t has been exposed to hgh humdty or perspraton, t should be left to dry out overnght wth the battery out and the battery door open. It s also a good dea to put the hearng ad and battery n a sealed contaner together wth a dryng agent (desccator) overnght. Do not use the ad untl t s completely dry. Consult your hearng care professonal as to whch dryng agent to use. 7. Remove your hearng ad when applyng cosmetcs, perfume, aftershave, har spray, and suntan loton. 39 14.1 Daly mantenance It s mportant to keep your hearng ad clean and dry. On a daly bass, clean the hearng ads usng a soft cloth or tssue. In order to avod damage due to humdty or excessve perspraton, the use of a dryng kt s recommended Cleanng the recever tubes and domes The recever tube and the recever dome should be cleaned regularly. Use a damp cloth to clean the recever tube and recever dome on the outsde. Do not use water when you are cleanng the recever tubes or the recever domes. Ths process s also used to clean the UP recever mold. Please see chapter 14.4 for how to change the wax guard flter. NOTE: If the components get stff, brttle, or dscolured, ask your hearng care professonal for a replacement Cleanng RIE or molds (does not apply for UP molds) 1. Separate the mold from the recever tube. 2. Clean the RIE mold usng a mld soap, and rnse wth lukewarm water. 3. After cleanng, dry RIE molds thoroughly and remove any resdual water and debrs utlzng an ar bulb. NOTE: Earmold tubng may become stff, brttle, or dscoloured over tme. 40 14.4 Changng wax guard for recever tube For changng Cerustop (whte) wax flters, the followng steps are needed: 1. To remove the old wax guard, nsert the removal sde of the wax guard tool nto the used wax guard so that the shaft of the tool s touchng the rm of the wax guard. Slowly pull the wax guard straght out. 2. To nsert the new wax guard, gently press the replacement sde of the wax guard tool straght nto the hole of the sound outlet untl the outer rng les flush wth the outsde of the recever. Pull the tool straght out -the new wax guard wll reman n place. 15 General warnngs 1. Consult a hearng care professonal f you thnk there may be a foregn object n your ear canal, f you experence skn rrtaton, or f excessve earwax accumulates wth the use of the hearng ad. 2. Dfferent types of radaton, from e.g. NMR, MRI, or CT scanners, may damage hearng ads. It s recommended not to wear hearng ads durng these or other smlar procedures. Other types of radaton, such as burglar alarms, room survellance systems, rado equpment, moble telephones, contan less energy and wll not damage hearng ads. However, they have the potental to momentarly affect the sound qualty or temporarly create undesred sounds from hearng ads. 3. Do not wear hearng ads n mnes, ol felds, or other explosve areas unless those areas are certfed for hearng ad use. 4. Do not allow others to use your hearng ads. Ths may cause damage to the hearng ads or to the hearng of the other ndvdual US Rev.A.ndd :52:51

41 5. Hearng Ad usage by chldren or mentally dsabled persons should be supervsed at all tmes to ensure ther safety. The hearng ad contans small parts that could be swallowed by chldren. Please be mndful not to leave chldren unsupervsed wth ths hearng ad. 6. Hearng ads should be used only as prescrbed by your hearng care professonal. Incorrect use may result n hearng loss. 7. Warnng to hearng care professonals: Specal care should be exercsed n selectng and fttng hearng ads wth maxmum sound pressure level that exceeds 132dB SPL wth an IEC 60711:1981 occluded ear smulator. When wreless functon s actvated, the devce uses low-powered dgtally coded transmssons n order to communcate wth other wreless devces. Although unlkely, nearby electronc devces may be affected. In that case, move the hearng ad away from the affected electronc devce. 2. When usng wreless functonalty and the devces are affected by electromagnetc nterference, move away from the source. 3. 43 17 Phone Now warnngs 1. Keep magnets out of reach of pets, chldren and people wth mental dsabltes. If a magnet s swallowed, please seek advce from a medcal practtoner. 2. The magnet may affect some medcal devces or electronc systems. The manufacturer of any magnetcally senstve devces (e.g. pacemakers) should advse you regardng approprate safety precautons when usng your hearng ad and magnet n close proxmty to the medcal devce or electronc system n queston. Acute or chronc dzzness. 5. Unlateral hearng loss of sudden or recent onset wthn the prevous 90 days. 6. Audometrc ar-bone gap equal to or greater than 15dB at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz. 7. Vsble evdence of sgnfcant cerumen accumulaton or a foregn body n the ear canal. 8. Pan or dscomfort n the ear. CAUTION: The maxmum output of the sound generator falls nto the range that can cause hearng loss accordng to OSHA regulatons. In accordance wth NIOSH recommendatons, the user should not use the sound generator for more than eght (8) hours a day when set to a level of 85 db SPL or above. When the sound generator s set to levels of 90 db SPL or above, the user should not use the sound generator for more than two (2) hours per day. The hearng ad evaluaton wll enable the audologst or hearng care professonal to select and ft a hearng ad to your ndvdual needs. If you have reservatons about your ablty to adapt to amplfcaton, you should nqure about the avalablty of a tral-rental or purchase-opton program. Many hearng care professonals now offer programs that permt you to wear a hearng ad for a perod of tme for a nomnal fee after whch you may decde f you want to purchase the hearng ad. Federal law restrcts the sale of hearng ads to those ndvduals who have obtaned a medcal evaluaton from a lcensed physcan. Federal law permts a fully nformed adult to sgn a waver statement declnng the medcal evaluaton for relgous or personal belefs that preclude consultaton wth a physcan.
