3 LCOS Liquid Crystal on Silicon is the state of the art digital display device. Liquid Crystal on Silicon sets produce stunningly lifelike digital images, and can do it in a significantly slimmer cabinet design than is possible with a conventional rear projection television. 11 New Technology LCOS The acronym LCOS stands for Liquid Crystal on Silicon. Liquid Crystals are coated onto a Silicon Chip, which also utilizes a reflective (aluminized) layer. As compared to standard LCD Chips, this reflective design greatly increases contrast, and eliminates any dotted "screen door" effect. As it is a digital device, LCOS technology also eliminates any chance of burn-in. This state-of-the-art digital technology is now being used to replace the CRTs in high definition projection TV. Standard LCOS Chips have 1280 x 720 pixels for true 720p resolution. Toshiba's new chip utilizes 1920 x 1080 pixels, making it the world's first 1080p resolution projection TV. Three 1080p Chips Unlike some designs, which only utilize a single chip, Toshiba utilizes three 1080p LCOS Chips for the highest possible picture quality. Each chip contains 2,073,600 pixels (2.25 times the standard 921,600 pixels of competitive devices). This digital engine creates the best possible sharpness, contrast, and color purity. IDSC TM Digital Toshiba's advanced internal De-Interlacer/Scaler automatically upconverts all incoming signals to 1080p for the best possible picture quality at all times. As high definition video is shot in 1080p, this TV displays high definition images as they were meant to be seen. Ultra Fine Pitch Screen To match the high quality of the LCOS engine, Toshiba has also utilized a.1mm Ultra Fine Pitch Screen, never before seen on a consumer product. This new technology helps achieve the finest, most detailed images possible. Glass TheaterShield TM with Double AR Leveraging the optical properties of pure glass, Toshiba has replaced the Acrylic Shield with a Pure Glass Shield to ensure the truest possible optical path. The result is an image that seems like you are looking through a window. Plasma A Plasma Display utilizes tiny pockets of plasma gas to create thousands of pixels. By eliminating the standard CRT scanning process, large Plasma Displays can achieve a depth of only 4". This allows Plasma Displays to be put on a stand, or hung on the wall like a picture. Some Non-HD Plasma Displays are 480p, and some are 1024i. Toshiba only utilizes 720p Panels for True HD resolution. LCD TV The acronym LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. These thin, flat screens were first used as Laptop Computer displays. By incorporating more advanced picture quality circuitry, these panels are now being used to create light, thin TVs that can fit on any counter. Toshiba's 15" LCD TV utilizes a versatile design that can either sit on the counter, or can be hung on the wall. DLP TM The acronym DLP stands for Digital Light Processing. DLP is also called DMD, or Digital Micro-Mirror Device. DLP utilizes tiny mirrors to create thousands of pixels. Consumer DLP products have a single DLP Chip, so a Color Wheel is used to create a full palette of colors. As it is a reflective device, this technology also provides high brightness and high contrast, without any possibility of burn-in. HD DLP chips utilize 1280 x 720 pixels for true 720p HD resolution. Toshiba's TDP-MT8U utilizes the new HD2 Chip, which incorporates an improved mirror tilt, and new algorithms, for even greater contrast and clarity. DLP technology is now becoming the optimal technology for Front Projectors. Faroudja DCDI+ TM The Toshiba TDP-MT8U incorporates the new DCDI+ De-Interlacer/Scaler. This advanced circuitry upconverts 480i and 480p signals to clean, sharp 720p HD images. The new "+" version adds Adaptive Luminance and Chrominance Enhancement, and Scaling with Frame Rate Conversion for the finest, deepest, artifact-free images. Carl Zeiss TM All-Glass Lens System The Toshiba TDP-MT8U utilizes a new High Focus All-Glass Carl Zeiss TM Lens System. In combination with the HD2 DLP Chip and the DCDI+ TM De-Interlacer/Scaler, this Lens System helps create the Ultimate Home Movie Theater Picture. (And, its 116-degree image offset allows for higher unit placement.)
