3 Introduction This level one multimedia classroom has been designed to make it easy for you to deliver engaging classroom activities. This packet guides you through the operation of all features and functions of the equipment. The desing of this classroom and the functionality it offers are direct results of the feedback from people such as you. We believe CCEE C03 represents the best combination of usability and scalability to meet your changing needs for technology in the classroom. Let s Talk... We would like to hear from you antyime you discover an opportunity for improvement to this facility. We d also like to listen to you discuss ideas about what you d like to try to achieve int he classroom and how improvements might better enable you to do so. And, of course, if you experience any difficulty, simply pick up the red HOTLINE phone. The HOTLINE Phone To Report a problem in a classroom, just pick up the RED Phone and you will automatically be connected to our office. If you have a problem in a room, pick up the RED Phone. 4 2 The Touch Panel Start Pages When using the Touch Panel Display (TPD) for CCEE C03, you will see this screen. To begin using the TPD, press here. Choose if this will be a regular class, teleconference or video capture session. You will be taken to this screen, which explains the use of the Help Menus. When you are ready to continue to the next TPD screen, press the NEXT button. You will be taken to this screen, which explains the function of the Room Presets. The Room Presets settings determine whether the various functions of a room are activated when a device is selected and can be selected here, by pressing the ROOM PRESETS ON, or ROOM PRESETS OFF buttons. *STRESS BUSTERS* The Room Presets settings can be changed at any time by accessing the Room Presets Controls on the Touch Panel Menu screen. 5 3 The Touch Panel An Overview Menu Bar The Menu Bar accesses all the devices in the room. Room Control Bar The Control Bar accesses all the room settings. Display Panel This section of the panel changes, depending on which button is selected in the first two rows. Use this button to access the LCD Projector Controls. LCD Projector To adjust Room Volume, press and hold the Volume Controls. Volume Control *STRESS BUSTERS* More power to you: Your laptop s battery should last an hour and one-half, but why risk it? 6 4 The Touch Panel System Reset System Reset The SYSTEM RESET is located in the top right corner of every page. Press this button at the end of every class to reset the system to its default settings for the next user and to protect the life of the equipment. Even if there is a class directly following the one you just finished, please press the SYSTEM RESET. This will ensure that the system will operate properly for the next user. After pressing SYSTEM RESET, the lights will turn on, all the screens will go up, the video projectors will turn off, as will each piece of equipment located inside the podium. This is fully automated, so you do not need to turn the equipment off yourself. If you happen to press the SYSTEM RESET accidentally, you have 0 seconds to press the screen again to abort the reset and continue as normal. If 0 seconds pass without the screen being touched, the system will enter a two-minute wait state while it restores and restarts to the default settings. During this two-minute period, the system will no respond. System Reset will activate in 0 seconds. Press here to abort system reset. ATN Classroom Hotline: Web Address: hotline@unc.edu

7 5 The Menu Bar PC.) Plug in your AC adapter. (Optional) 2.) Attach the audio and video cables to your laptop. 3.) Attach the yellow network cable to your laptop network adapter. (Optional, if you want to connect to the network.) 4.) Turn your laptop on. 5.) Toggle your display by pressing the Function (Fn) + F7 key together. (CCI MACHINES ONLY.) (This may be Fn + F5, depending on your specific laptop. Look for a screen icon the the F# key.) Press the PC Button on the Touch Panel to display your laptop. 8 6 The Menu Bar VCR (If Rooms Have Multiple Screens) Press here to Left Screen Projection Right Screen Projection start the VCR. Displays Tape Counter Resets Counter Changes VCR Channels Pauses VCR Stops VCR Rewinds VCR Plays VCR Fast Forward Ejects VCR Tape Tape Tape Tape VCR Tape Tape To View a VHS Cassette:.) Select VCR from the menu bar. 2.) Place your tape in the VCR and cue the videotape. *STRESS BUSTERS* VCR = Very Crumbly Recording Head alignments can vary wildly among commercially produced tapes and even more so among homemade video tape recordings. Always test any new tape in the room in which you plan to show it in advance of your presentation. If it does not play properly, call us so that we an help you. 9 7 The Menu Bar Multiple Screens This room may have multiple screens. If that s the case, then you ll see the left and right screen projection icons. Left Screen Projection Right Screen Projection To select which screen your video will project on. Press the Left Screen Projection or Right Screen Projection button. Press EJECT on the Recorder A to open the loading tray. 3.) Place your CD onto the loading tray and press EJECT again to close the loading tray. Allow for about 0 seconds for the /CD player to spin up and read the CD. 4.) Press the PLAY button to start playing a track. You can press the SCAN buton to scan forward in the track or press SLOW forward or back to go forward and back one track on the CD. *STRESS BUSTERS* CDs are played in the Player A. 12 0 The Menu Bar Document Camera Press here to begin. Press here to expand image to full screen. Press here for Zoom control. The document camera is located over the podium. Use the touch panel to display the image to the screen. This camera has a very flexible zoom range and will show color images. To display an object or document onto the projections screen using this camera:.) Select CAMERA from the menu bar. 2.) Place your document/object under the camera. 3.) You will see an image in the video preview box. Press the image to see an enlarged version of it. Press the image again to return to normal viewing size. 13 The Menu Bar HELP Help The HELP button provides quick and easy access to information concerning the touch panel as well as the multimedia technology in the room. After selecting a device, pressing HELP will generate a help page for that device. Press EXIT HELP or ROOM CONTROL to quit help and return to normal use of the touch panel. 14 2 The Menu Bar Room Presets Room Presets The ROOM PRESETS button changes the number of tasks that are or not automated. WHEN A ROOM PRESETS ARE ON: When a device is selected from the menu bar:.) The appropriate screen drops. 2.) The lights will dim to a preset level. 3.) The video projector will turn on. WHEN A ROOM PRESETS ARE OFF: When a device is selected from the menu bar:.) Nothing happens when a function is selected. You have regular manual control over the individual settings of the room. 15 3 The Menu Bar LCD Projector Press here for LCD Projector Controls Press here to Turn On/Off Close Captioning Pressing the LCD PROJECTOR button gives you control over the LCD Projector. This screen allows you to blank the projected image, change the image ratio, change the input, and turn the projector(s) on or off manually. *STRESS BUSTERS* WARNING!!! IF YOU TURN THE PROJECTOR OFF, IT CANNOT BE TURNED ON FOR 2 MINUTES! If you want to have your display ready and waiting but hidden from your audience without turning the projector off, but also without having to let it warm up, use the IMAGE BLANK button. This will take the projected image off the screen, but will leave the projector on and running. To show the image again, press IMAGE BLANK. If you need to change the input on one of the projectors, press the appropriate DATA or VIDEO button to display the image. ATN Classroom Hotline: Web Address: hotline@unc.edu

16 4 The Menu Bar Screens Press here for Screen Controls Raise and Lower Screens with these buttons. The SCREEN button gives you control over each of the screens individually. You may raise or lower each one of the SCREENS individually. Pressing the UP button will raise the selected screen. Pressing the DOWN button will lower the selected screen. The screens are preset at specific levels and heights. If the levels are off or not operating correctly, please call the hotline for any assistance. ATN Classroom Hotline: Web Address:

17 5 The Menu Bar Shades The SHADES buttons control the shades in the room. They are either all the way up or all the way down. Press here for Screen Controls Raise and Lower Shades with these buttons. ATN Setup ATN Setup button The ATN SETUP button is for ATN s use only. Pressing this button will bring up a keypad for a password. If you hit the ATN SETUP button, just press to return to normal use. ATN Classroom Hotline: Web Address: hotline@unc.edu

Press the PLACE CALL button. 2.) Select Call Speed. (Usually, it s OK to select the fastest speed.) 3.) Enter the IP of the remote site using the keypad. Press when done. (You may enter a second IP address. If not, then press again.) *STRESS BUSTERS* You can store and look up addresses in the Address Book feature. 19 7 Teleconferencing Multiple Screens With the multi window teleconferencing, you can preview different souces ready to be sent to the far site. Instructor Camera Audience Camera Simple Class Devices Depending on which window you have selected, controls will appear on the bottom half of the screen. With the Instructor s Camera, you can control the ParkerVision camera. This camera can track you automatically with the use of the collar. Press the INSTRUCTOR CAMERA pull down button to bring up that camera s controls. With the Audience Camera, you can control the camera that is focused on the audience. Pres the AUDI- ENCE CAMERA pull down button to bring up that camera s controls. With the Simple Class Device pulldown, you can select different sources to send to the far site. (I.e.--, Document Camera, VCR, etc. etc.) When you re ready to send a video feed to the far site, press the window you want to send. It should now be highlighted with a RED BOX around it. 20 8 Observation and Capture Camera Control Press here to return Pan and Tilt control. Zoom in and out control to classroom controls. Store Presets Preview camera window. Change camera with pull-down boxes. Stop Recording Record Camera selected in Main Window Mic Volume Will Highlight. Press to change cameras. Control Control Navigating the Camera Controls - Select a camera to view from each video signal from the pull-down below each window. Note: You are only able to control the camera selected in the main window. 2- Use the UP and DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT icons on the main video window to pan/tilt. 3- Use the ZOOM icons to zoom in and out on the selected camera in the main window. *STRESS BUSTERS* You can store presets with the STORE button. 21 9 Observation and Capture Video Recording The following instructions provide a quick way to record to. See Appendix A for the full and in depth instruction manual for the Panasonic DMR-E00H Recorder. After you have set the cameras the way you want to view them, you can record up to 4 video feeds into 4 different recorders or just toggle the different camera feeds into recorder. Press Here to change recorders. Press here to change inputs. Pause, Stop and Record Buttons Record to or Set Advanced HDD mode. Microphones Controls button. To Record Video: - Choose the camera video feed you want to send to a recorder in the main video window. 2- Choose one of the Recorders to record to. (A, B, C or D). Once a camera is selected, press and hold the Recorder s button for 2 seconds to confirm your sending video feed to the recorder. 3- Choose to record to the recorder s hard drive or direct to by pressing the or HDD MODE button. 4- Press the RECORD button to start recording to the selected Recorder. 5- To change to a different recorder, press one of the different recorder buttons (A, B, C or D). 6- To change the video feed to record, choose a camera feed in the main window. Choosing one of the recorders will show it s current video feed. Pressing and holding the button will send the previous camera selected to that recorder. 7- You can toggle between recorders to change their individual video feeds if recording on multiple recorders. NOTE: The ParkerVision Cameraman (Camera 8) is dedicated to -Recorder D. ATN Classroom Hotline: Web Address: hotline@unc.edu

22 20 Observation and Capture Microphone Assignment Selecting Microphone to Record to: After setting up your video feed for each recorder, you also need to assign the audio that will be recorded to it. - Press the SET MICROPHONES button. Select Recorder Microphones Close Button Clear All Button 2- Select a recorder you will assign the microphones to. 3- Toggle on and off the microphones you want to assign to that specific recorder. There is about a 2 second delay when turning on and off microphones. Please choose slowly! 4- Select the other recorders and repeat step When done, press the CLOSE button to return to the Observation and Capture menu. *STRESS BUSTERS* Pressing the CLEAR ALL button will clear all the microphones assigned to all the recorders. 23 2 Observation and Capture Hard Drive Recording/Editing/Dubbing Hard Drive Editing: If you have recorded your video to the hard drive on the recorders and want to transfer the video to a -RAM or -R disc: - Choose the recorder that you saved the video to on its hard drive. 2- Press the ADVANCED button. You should see a the Advanced window. Return Button Functions Button Recorders 3- Ensure that you have a -RAM or non-finalized -R disk in the recorder. (You can use a -RAM disk over and over until the disk has run out of disk space. The same can be done with a -R disk, unless the -R has been finalized. See -RAM and -R editing for more information about this.) Choose one of the recorders on the right side of the panel. The video should show up on the window. It will also show up on the LCD projectors if they are already on. If not, you can press the Lecture/Lab display buttons to display them on the projectors. 4- Press the FUNCTIONS button. 24 22 Observation and Capture Hard Drive Recording/Editing/Dubbing Hard Drive Editing Continued Navigate the highlighted box using the directional keypad to select Dubbing and press. 6- Ensure Dubbing Direction says HDD -> -RAM (or -R). See the table below to select the speed you want according to the disk you have. Recording Modes and Approximate Recording Times in Hours -RAM Disc HDD -R Single- Double- (20 GB) (4.7 GB) Mode Sided Sided (4.7 GB) (9.4 GB) XP (High Quality) 26* 2 SP (Normal) 52* LP (Long Play) 04* EP (Extra Long Play) 60* FP (Flexible Recording) automatically selects a rate between XP and EP that will enable the recordings to fit in the available recording time on the disc with the best possible recording quality. Recording times may change depending on the recording content. *Recording times will be shortened when you set the MPEG4 Rec Mode. Once you have selected your record speed, select your video to record off the hard drive. 8- Press DOWN to highlight the No. TIME and TITLE box. Press to go to the Dubbing List menu. A list of recordings on the hard drive should appear and start playing. Move UP and DOWN with the directions in the control box and press on the video you want to transfer to. 0- Your selected video should show up on the Dubbing List. 27 25 Observation and Capture Hard Drive Recording/Editing/Dubbing Hard Drive Editing Continued... - Once back at the main Dubbing screen/menu, move DOWN and select Start Dubbing 2- Confirm your recording speed and press LEFT and to start dubbing. 3- The video you selected will start playing while it is dubbing to the. *WARNING* Once Recording has started, it cannot be stopped! 28 26 Observation and Capture Hard Drive Recording/Editing/Dubbing Hard Drive Editing Continued NOTE: It takes as long to burn to for as much footage you are dubbing. So, if you are dubbing 2 /2 hours of recording, it will take 2 /2 hours to transfer it to. 5- Once the disk is finished recording, you may need to finalize the disk in order to get it to be playable in most players. If you are using a -RAM disk, you are free to eject the disk. You may also (if there is still space available on the disk) record more onto the disk at a later time if you choose. If you are recording on a -R disk, you may also eject the disk and record more onto the disk at a later time, provided that there is still space available. However, you will NOT be able to view the footage in a home player. If you do not intend to record more programs to the -R, then you need to finalize the disk. 6- To finalize the disk, press the ADVANCED MODE button with whatever recorder you have selected. You should see the advanced dvd menu come up. Press the MODE button to switch to mode. Press the FUNCTIONS button. Functions Button ATN Classroom Hotline: Web Address: hotline@unc.edu

Press the button. 5- Then choose, FINALIZE to finalize your -R. Confirm your selection and it should take about 2 minutes to finalize. After the disk is finalized, press the button. 30 28 Observation and Capture Hard Drive Recording/Editing/Dubbing Hard Drive Clean Up Once you ve finished burning your video to a, you might want to eventually delete the files off the hard-drive. You can leave it on there and make more copies of it, but eventually, the hard drive will need to be cleaned out. To delete all video files on the hard-drive: - Press the ADVANCED CONTROLS button. 2- Press the HDD-MODE button. 3- Press the FUNCTIONS button. 4- Use the menu keypad to highlight Disc Setting option and press. 5- Select Erase All Programs and press. 6- Confirm your choice, select Yes and press. To delete one video file off the hard drive: - Press the ADVANCED CONTROLS button. 2- Press the HDD-MODE button. 3- Press the MENU button. A list of all files recorded on the HARD DRIVE should appear. 4- Using the menu keypad, find the file you want to delete and press the RIGHT direction button. 5- Highlight Erase Program and press. 6- Confirm your choice, highlight Erase and press. *STRESS BUSTERS* You can also erase -RAM disks from the FUNCTIONS menu. 31 29 Observation and Capture Editing Recording/Editing Before we start recording to, let s learn about the 2 different types of that we can record to. -RAM --RAM recorded on this unit may not be compatible with other players. -This unit is compatible with both non-cartridge and cartridge -RAM, but the write-protect tabs on cartridge type discs give better protection to your recordings. -R -In order to play a -R recorded using this unit on another playback source, the disc must first be finalized. -Once a -R is finalized, it becomes -Video. You can record onto the available space on the disc and perform editing functions, such as giving titles to discs and programs anderasing programs before finalizing. -When programming is erased from a -R, that space does not become available. -Once an area on a -R is recorded on, that area is no longer available for recording, whether the recording is erased or not. -It takes about 30 seconds for the unit to complete recording management information after recording finishes. -Play may be impossible in some cases due to the condition of recording. -A -R recorded on this unit may not be recordable on other Panasonic recorders. -This unit is compatible with x 4x speed discs. In summary, with -RAM, the disk can be reused over and over. Video can be recorded and erased off the disk multiple times. However, -RAM disks might not be compatible with all household players. -R disks, once finalized can generally be played on any household player. Until it is finalized, programs and recordings can be added to the disk along as there is space available. Programs can also be deleted off the disk, but the space that they took up on the cannot be reused. Thus, eventually, the -R disk will run out of space even if you continously delete contents on the disk. Once the -R is finalized, the disk cannot be edited any more. You should check with your player instructions/specifications to see if it is compatible with -RAM or -R disks. *STRESS BUSTERS* Once you ve started recording, if you press STOP, there will be a recording to disc time when the recording is recording the video buffer to the. Just wait a minute and it should finish. To avoid this, use PAUSE instead and you won t have to wait for the buffer until you hit STOP. ATN Classroom Hotline: Web Address: hotline@unc.edu

32 30 Observation and Capture Recording/Editing Editing Continued: After putting a -RAM or -R disk in the recorder, we re ready to start recording. - In the main video window, once you have your video feed selected, select the recorder (A, B, C or D). 2- Press the button from the Mode select. Advanced Control Recorders /HDD Modes Pause, Stop Record Buttons 3- When ready, press RECORD to start recording to the. At any time, you can change video feed going to the specified recorder to record video from different cameras. 4- If you ve already set up other recorders, you can choose them and start them recording as well. You can toggle between recorders by choosing between them (A, B, C or D) and you can pause or stop or change video feeds to each individual recorder. *STRESS BUSTERS* To view what you re recorded, press the ADVANCED button with the recorder selected and press PLAY (assuming it isn t currently recording.) Press STOP to stop viewing and RECORD again to start recording more video. ATN Classroom Hotline: Web Address: hotline@unc.edu

33 3 Observation and Capture Recording/Editing Editing Continued: 5- Once you ve finished capturing your video and are ready to take the out, you might have to finalize your disk. If you are using a -RAM disk, you are free to eject the disk. You may also (if there is still space available on the disk) record more onto the disk at a later time if you choose. If you are recording on a -R disk, you may also eject the disk and record more onto the disk at a later time, provided that there is still space available. However, you will NOT be able to view the footage in a home player. If you do not intend to record more programs to the -R, then you need to finalize the disk. 6- To finalize the disk, press the ADVANCED MODE button with whatever recorder you have selected. You should see the advanced dvd menu come up. Press the MODE button to switch to mode. Press the FUNCTIONS button. *STRESS BUSTERS* If you press EJECT after recording some video, you will be asked if you want to finalize the disk. If you say YES, you will see a finalize menu instructing you how to finalize your disc. If you say NO, your disc will eject out of the recorder. ATN Classroom Hotline: Web Address: hotline@unc.edu

Confirm your selection and it should take about 2 minutes to finalize. After the disk is finalized, press the button. Getting started Features This unit allows recording of high quality video on HDD and -RAM, the compact and durable digital media with fast random access. This media also out performs past tape formats in ease of operation. Maximum 60 hours on HDD (Hard Disk Drive) ( page 5) This model is installed with a high capacity 20 GB hard disk capable of recording a maximum of 60 hours (6 hours continuously). The same functions are available with HDD as with -RAM and editing/recording of visual data from hard disk to -RAM/R is easy-to-perform. Maximum 2 hours on -RAM Using a double sided, 9.4 GB RAM allows you to record a maximum of 2 hours (6 hours continuously). You can also use the FR (Flexible Recording) mode to fit recordings efficiently onto the available space on the disc. Maximum 24t -R recording speed You can high speed record from the HDD to a -R using 24k recording speed on -R discs that are compatible with high speed recording (When EP mode and Dolby Digital is selected). Programs stored on the HDD can be quickly dubbed and stored on a -R. Auto Renewal Recording ( page 28) If you record a program onto HDD repeatedly everyday or every week using timer recording, the unit will record the new program over the old one. Relief Recording ( page 27) When timer recording to -RAM or -R, the unit will compare the remaining space on the disc and the time necessary for recording. If space is insufficient the unit will record the program to HDD instead (there is no relief recording function the other way, i.e. from HDD to -RAM or -R). Editing your recording [HDD] [RAM] You can divide programs ( page 36). Use play lists ( page 32) to select your favorite scenes and rearrange them to play in any order you like. Dubbing/editing/playing SD VIDEO (MPEG4) programs ( pages 22, 30, 42) You can simultaneously record programs as SD VIDEO (MPEG4) programs to the HDD ( page 4). By dubbing to a SD card, you can view the programs on a Panasonic video camera [SD VIDEO (MPEG4) compatible]. You can also dub SD VIDEO (MPEG2) recorded on future releases of Panasonic SD video cameras to this unit. Saving/editing/playing still pictures (JPEG, TIFF) taken on a digital camera ( pages 22, 38 4) You can save to a high capacity HDD or -RAM. You can play on a television screen. You can set the DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) for automatic printing on your home printer or at a photo developing store. DV Automatic Recording ( page 6) A play list is automatically created, which is convenient for editing. Exceptional sound and picture quality when recording Audio is recorded using Dolby Digital stereo, enabling high quality sound recordings. When recording in XP mode it is possible to use LPCM (2 channel) to achieve sound recordings of even higher quality. The encoder system used for recording is called Hybrid VBR and allows high quality recordings. Fast access to the program you want to watch ( page 9) [HDD] [RAM] [-R] Use the Direct Navigator to find a program you have recorded and start play. Make your own -Video Finalizing a -R that has been recorded on produces an original -Video in accordance with -Video standards. In addition to -Video movie software, this unit can also play other types of discs including audio CDs and Video CDs. This means that this unit has the potential to play a central role in your home entertainment, from high-end home theater through to CD playback. To enjoy sound through other audio equipment ( page 59) To enjoy progressive video Connect to the component video (480P) input terminals on a television compatible with this unit s copy guard system. (Video will not be displayed correctly if connected to an incompatible television.) All Panasonic televisions that have 480P input terminals are compatible. Consult the manufacturer if you have another brand of television. Setup precautions Do not place in an enclosed area so the rear cooling fan and the cooling vents on the side are covered up. Place the unit on a surface that is flat and not subject to vibration or impact. Place in an area where condensation does not occur. Condensation is a phenomenon where moisture forms on a cold surface when there is an extreme change in temperature. Condensation may cause internal damage to the unit. In the following situation, with the power off, let the unit adjust to the room temperature and wait 2-3 hours until condensation is gone. Conditions where condensation may occur During the rainy season in tropical and sub tropical areas. When there is high humidity or a lot of steam in the room. Television COMPONENT VIDEO IN Y PB PR Y PB PR Video cable (not included) When making either of the above connections, ensure you connect the audio cables to the corresponding audio input terminals on the television. 75 coaxial cable The signal from the antenna passes through this unit and along the 75 coaxial cable to the television even when this unit is turned off. You don t have to connect the antenna to the television. The picture and sound signal from this unit does not go through the 75 coaxial cable to the television. Make sure you connect one of the following terminals on this unit to the television: the AUDIO/VIDEO terminal, the S-VIDEO OUT terminal or the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT terminal. If the television has none of these terminals, consult your local dealer. Do not connect the unit through a video cassette recorder Video signals fed through video cassette recorders will be affected by copyright protection systems and the picture will not be shown correctly on the television. Conserving power This unit consumes a small amount of power, even when it is turned off (approx. 3.5 W).
