7 HDMI IN Connector (PCS-XG100S only) An HDMI output camera like Handycam can be connected to HDMI IN. If using it as the second camera, make appropriate setting under Camera setup menu Second Camera Input. Notes Playback of a Blu-ray disc copy-guarded cannot be input to the HDMI IN connector as it does NOT support HDCP. Supported HDMI version is 1.4b. Without HDMI IN, connect as shown in the figure below. In case of not using HDMI IN * Do the same way when PCS-XG77S is used. Audio Input To send HDMI audio to a remote party, set AUX as Audio Input. In order not to send HDMI audio to a remote party, set MIC as Audio Input. The above settings are enabled regardless of Link to Audio Input setting. Note Other AUX audio input will be ignored if set. 7

9 1.4. Using Microphones You can input the stereo sound from two PCS-A1 (two are supplied with the PCS-XG100S and one is supplied with the PCS-XG77S) microphones to the system. Up to 6 microphones are available with another optional PCS-A1(s). Notes When using two or more microphones, connect them as follows. 13 Note on Using External Microphone If you connect external microphone with AUDIO 1 IN or AUDIO 2 IN, you need to use Mic Mixer and to adjust its output level to line level, and this output should be inputted to AUDIO 1 IN or AUDIO 2 IN. Adjust the audio level by watching the level meter displayed on the monitor to prevent level clipping. The level meter can be displayed by setting Audio Level Meter to On under Setup Home Menu 3. When AUDIO 1 IN and AUDIO 2 IN are used as AUX which can be selected under Setup Audio 1 Audio Input, up to 22 khz input signal can be passed through, but echo canceling function cannot be used. When AUDIO 1 IN and AUDIO 2 IN are used as MIC which can be selected under Setup Audio 1 Audio Input, echo canceling function can be used but input frequency is limited to up to 16 khz Audio Level Adjustment Before adjusting the volume on the TV monitor, set the volume on the PCS to the appropriate position. 1. To display the volume meter, set Volume to On under Setup Home Menu Press the VOLUME +/- buttons on the remote commander to set the volume level on the adjustment bar displayed on the screen to the middle position. 3. Adjust the volume on the TV monitor so that you can clearly hear a remote party s speaking. Notes Do not activate the TV s surround sound feature as it may prevent the echo canceller of the PCS from functioning properly and cause an unerased echo. During communication, set the volume on the PCS to the appropriate level, and do not adjust the volume on the TV monitor. 13

14 Audio Output Delay Setting (Setup Audio 2) Using the Lip Sync function closely synchronizes the audio and video signals. Even with the Lip Sync function, however, there still may be a slight time lag, but this can be eliminated by setting a value in Audio Output Delay Setting. Note that, when the audio signal is fed to an audio system other than that built into the video display, even using Lip Sync function will not eliminate the time lag between the audio and video. The time lag can also be eliminated by setting a delay in Audio Output Delay Setting. Default is that value with which the audio is almost synchronized with the video. You can select Default, Default +/-50 ms, and Default+/-100 ms. When you select Custom, an audio output delay between 0 ms and 500 ms can be set as an absolute delay, which has no relation to the Default value Audio input delay setting (Setup Audio 2) When there is a time lag between the input audio and input video, a delay can be set in Audio Input Delay to adjust the audio to the video. An identical delay is set for all the microphones and all the external lines of the PCS. After setting up the audio and video system to operate with the PCS, setting Audio Input Delay, but then disconnecting the audio and video system from the PCS, restore the original values or set the Default value. Audio Delay from Video Picture at Remote Party contains Audio Input Delay set for the local party and the Audio Output Delay set for the remote party. The optimum Audio Output Delay setting is adjusted for each remote party according to the individual usage circumstances, so it is recommended to use the Default value for Audio Input Delay Setting Reversed MIC Inputs Function (Setup Audio 2) This function allows you to select whether to transmit the audio input from the microphone with right and left reversed to a remote party. Normally, you do not need to change this setting. (See the microphone layout example when installing microphone referring to section 1.4.) Use this function to reverse the MIC inputs especially when the right and left of the camera image and the audio are not matched from the remote party thanks to a specific installation environment. To reverse the audio, set Reversed MIC Inputs to On under Setup Audio 2. (The factory setting is Off.) 14

Note that you cannot use it with AUDIO 1 IN/AUDIO 2 IN when these inputs are used for AUX. 15

16 Echo Canceller Stereo echo canceller s learning principle When there is only one sound source, the stereo echo canceller cannot learn four different echo paths, because:. The balance of the volume from each of the L and R channels is constant.. The arrival time interval (Δt) between the sounds from the L and R channels is constant. To achieve adequate learning by the stereo echo canceller, the sounds from multiple sound sources of the remote party must reach the echo canceller. This is the essential difference from the monaural echo canceller. If all of the participants stay in their respective fixed positions and speak, however, the stereo echo canceller can produce its maximum effect. If the speaker moves, the stereo echo canceller learning process may take a long time and an echo may remain. 16

17 Echo Canceller (Setup Audio1) To enable the echo canceller, make settings as follows: When the output from PCS-A1 microphone is input to MIC (A1) IN: Setup Menu Item Setting Audio1 Audio Input MIC Input Select (MIC) Echo Canceller MIC(A1) On When the output from the external microphone is input to AUDIO 1 IN, or AUDIO 2 IN through the mixer. *Note Setup Menu Item Setting Audio1 Audio Input MIC Input Select (MIC) AUDIO 1 or AUDIO 2 Echo Canceller On *Note: Refer to Section Note on Using External Microphone. It is necessary to set Audio Input to AUX when the audio signal from external equipment like a DVD player is input to AUDIO 1 IN or AUDIO 2. In this case, note that the echo canceller does not work even with the echo canceller set to On by the Setup menu. It is designed on the assumption that the input level is aligned will the line level. 17

18 1.6. Connecting Monitor Up to 3 monitors can used with the PCS-XG100S, and up to 2monitors with PCS-XG77S. Output Format WXGA SXGA 1080i 1080p Notes When Monitor Output is set to HDMI 1 + HDMI 2, the DVI-I Monitor Output Format setting determines the video format output for the monitor connected to the HDMI-2 OUT connector. 18

19 Notes HDMI-2 OUT connector is not available on the PCS-XG77S. HDMI-1 OUT is called HDMI OUT for the PCS-XG77S. The HDMI 1 + HDMI 2 and Triple monitors settings are not available on the PCS-XG77S. Connect a monitor that supports the 1080p video format to the HDMI-2 OUT connector. If Monitor Output is set to HDMI 1 + DVI-I OUT, HDMI 1 + HDMI 2, or Triple monitors when no HDMI monitor is connected to the PCS, you cannot view the menus. Be sure to connect any HDMI monitor. When you change the setting of MonitorOutput to an incorrect setting, no picture is displayed on the screen. In this case, select the correct setting for Monitor Output using the power switch on the PCS and the buttons on the Remote Commander. When the power switch indicator on the PCS stays lit, perform the steps below. (1) Press the power switch on the PCS. (2) Within five seconds after you pressed the switch, press the buttons on the Remote Commander described below depending on the desired Monitor Output. HDMI 1: VIDEO INPUT button (once) then Number button 3 (three times) DVI-I OUT: VIDEO INPUT button (once) then Number button 4 (three times) (3) The setting of Monitor Output is changed, and the picture will be displayed on the screen.
