1 Learning Environments user guide: Frank Tate-G23 [Learning Environments Spatial Lab] Frank Tate-G23 [Learning Environments Spatial Lab] is located on the ground floor of the Frank Tate building on the Parkville campus. It is designed to allow a multitude of different user groups to configure the space according to their individual requirements. It contains the following equipment: Data projector x 2 LCD screens x 6 Wireless touch panel controls Push-button controls x 6 Dual boot Mac mini - 1 x presenter, 6 x student See the Mac mini user guide for instructions on using a dual boot Mac mini at The University of Melbourne: Connection plates for laptop (VGA), composite and component inputs - 1 x presenter, 6 x student DVD/VCR player Movable lectern Wireless microphones - 2 x lapel, 2 x handheld Wireless - more information about wireless at the University of Melbourne here: The Spatial Lab has a movable lectern for the presenter. You need a LEC key to open the lectern. There are three floor boxes in the room where the lectern can be connected, located at the front, middle and rear of the room. There are six student zones. Each zone has a large LCD screen, push button controls, a connection plate, and additional laptop connectivity at the zone table. Zone table cables need to be connected to a zone s floor box in order to use the laptop, network and power connections located in the lidded cavity at the desk. When you have finished Please reconfigure the room to its default configuration and turn off all powered devices: Shut down all computers. Turn off the wireless mice - power switch is located on the underside of the mouse. Shut down the multimedia system via the touch panel. Return the touch panel to the charging dock if you undocked it. Close all windows. Turn off all fans, heaters and lights. 1

3 Using the wireless touch panel The wireless touch panel is located in a wall mounted charging dock next to the main entrance. Return the touch panel to the charging dock when you have finished so the battery can recharge. To undock the wireless touch panel: 1. Press the button below the AMX label. The touch panel will undock by angling out of the charging dock. 2. Lift the touch panel up out of the charging dock. To re-dock the touch panel: 1. Place the touch panel back in the charging dock on the same angle as you removed it. 2. Gently push the top of the touch panel forward. The touch panel will then automatically angle back into the charging dock. Lecture mode In lecture mode you can only display content from the lectern. Only one lectern source can be displayed in lecture mode, no zone sources can be displayed. Lectern content can be displayed on any or all displays. To display content using lecture mode: 1. Activate the touch panel by touching the touch panel screen. 2. Press START. The touch panel starts in lecturer mode by default. 3. Select the plug in location of the lectern - FRONT, MID or REAR. 4. Select the source you want to display: LAPTOP = VGA input on lectern connection plate. DVD = DVD/VCR player located inside lectern. COMPUTER = Mac mini located inside lectern. COMPNT = component input on lectern connection plate. AUX = auxiliary input on lectern connection plate. VCR = DVD/VCR player located inside lectern. 5. Select the display you want to use: Proj 1 = projector 1 - at front of room. Proj 2 = rear projector - at rear of room. Push button controls in lecture mode Zone push button controls are deactivated when in lecture mode. 3

To display content using student mode: 1. Activate the touch panel by touching the touch panel screen. 2. Press START. 3. Press Student Mode. 4. Select the zone you want to display from. You can display one source from the lectern and two zone sources simultaneously. To display a lectern source in student mode A. Select the plug in location of the lectern - FRONT, MID or REAR. B. Select the lectern source you want to display: LAPTOP = VGA input on lectern connection plate. DVD = DVD/VCR player located inside lectern. COMPUTER = Mac mini located inside lectern. COMPNT = component input on lectern connection plate. AUX = auxiliary input on lectern connection plate. VCR = DVD/VCR player located inside lectern. C. Select the display you want to use: Proj 1 = projector 1 - at front of room Proj 2 = projector 2 - at rear of room If displaying on LCD screens, press Auto Adjust LCDs. To display a zone source in student mode A. Select the zone location: LCD 1 to LCD 6. B. Select the zone source you want to display: LAPTOP = laptop input on zone AV connection plate FLOOR BOX VGA = laptop input in zone table lidded cavity COMPUTER = Mac mini located below zone push button controls COMPNT = component input on zone AV connection plate COMPOSITE = composite input on zone AV connection plate. C. Select the display you want to use: Proj 1 = projector 1 - at front of room Proj 2 = projector 2 - at rear of room If displaying on LCD screens, press Auto Adjust LCDs. 4
5 Push button controls in student mode When in student mode, zone push button controls can be used to select a source for display in that zone. Push button controls can only control sources from that zone. If a zone is being displayed via the touch panel in student mode, the push button controls in that zone will over ride the touch panel selection.
