2 CHECKLIST This checklist is used to track the progress of training. After each section of the booklet is completed, please check off the correct section. This form must be signed by the trainer, and trainee, and returned to Amcom. 3 Purpose : To get an overview of location of buttons. GENERAL SCREEN LAYOUT Main Menu Items. Clicking on a main menu item, will open the submenu item on the left of Sub-Menu Item. Clicking on a sub-menu item, will open the entry screen on SCANNER CONVENTIONS Purpose: Standard keys and screen navigation tools. Keys: SHIFT=Temporarily changes case (upper/lower case). BKSP= Back Space one character at a time. FUNC & BKSP = Space ENT = Enters data, moves to the next field. Receiving with Symbol Scanner Process 3 Rev

4 XFER PRICEBK TO SCANNER Purpose: To load the master file of items from the computer to the scanner.. 1. From the Main-Menu List single click on Item Level. 2. From the Sub-Menu list single click on Xfer PriceBk to Scanner. 3. Enter or search for your Location. 4. Select Pocket PC. 5. Click on the Accept button. 6. You will see a screen like the one to the right showing that the software is creating the file. 7. With the power turned on, place the scanner in the cradle. (Note: If scanner was in the cradle when the file was transferred, remove the scanner from the cradle, make sure the power is on, and place the scanner back in the cradle. This will copy the price book file to the scanner.) 8. On the scanner: Make sure the Scanner Tools program is open, by double clicking the icon. (NOTE: If the program is open, but just minimized, single click Red River Software next to the Start button.) Receiving with Symbol Scanner Process 4 Rev

5 9. On the scanner: From the main menu, single click Import Pricebook. 10. On the scanner: Single click on the Load button 11. On the scanner: Single click Close button when the file is processed. 12. On the scanner: Verify the correct location number is showing at the top of the main menu screen. NOTE: Uploading the pricebook is necessary each time the scanner is used. This keeps current products, counts, and pricing available on the scanner. You are now ready to start receiving products. 6 ENTER RECEIVING W/SYMBOL SCANNER Purpose: Receive deliveries to store using the hand scanner. This increases the quantity on hand for all items received. 1. On the scanner: Make sure the Scanner Tools program is open, by double clicking the icon. (NOTE: If the program is open, but just minimized, single click Red River Software next to the Start button.) 1. On the scanner: From the main menu, single click Receivings. 2. On the scanner: Select the Vendor from the drop down list. (Note: If a vendor is not on your list, you must add the vendor on the computer, and make sure you check the box to send the vendor to the scanner) 3. On the scanner: Enter the Packing Slip # (Invoice #). 4. On the scanner: Click the Ok button. 5. On the scanner: Press the Yellow scan button on the front of the scanner, or either buttons on the left or right side to scan the item. The item's UPC will appear in the Barcode field. The item's Description will be directly below the Barcode field. Note: If the item is new to the pricebook, the description will show as UNKNOWN ITEM. Click on the Edit button to open up the detail screen. Enter the description (either using the alpha and number keys, or using the stylus and virtual keyboard). Select the appropriate Category (from the pulldown), Cost and Retail, then click Ok Receiving with Symbol Scanner Process 6 Rev

7 6. On the scanner: Enter/Verify the Cost of the item. 7. On the scanner: Enter/Verify the Retail of the item. 8. On the scanner: Enter the Quantity purchased of the item. 9. On the scanner: Single click the Accept button. 10. Repeat for each item on the invoice from step #5 above. (Note: it is best to scan the items in the order they are printed on the invoice from the vendor.) 11. Once the Invoice has been completely entered, single click on the X in the upper right-hand corner to close the screen. This will return you to the Main Menu. 12. Replace the scanner into the cradle. This will initiate the automatic Import of the data from the scanner to the Amcom Software. You are now ready to Import the file into the software on the computer. 8 ADJUSTING DATE/TIME ON SYMBOL SCANNER Purpose: To set the correct date and time on the scanner. 1. On the scanner: Exit to the main desktop of the scanner. 2. On the scanner: Click on the Start button. 3. On the scanner: Click on Settings. 4. On the scanner: Click on Control Panel. 5. On the scanner: Double Click the Date/Time Icon. 6. On the scanner: Select the correct Date, Time, and Time Zone. 7. On the scanner: Single click the Apply button. 8. On the scanner: Single click the OK button at the top of the screen. 9. On the scanner: Single click the X button in the top right corner of the screen to return to the desktop. Receiving with Symbol Scanner Process 8 Rev

9 CALIBRATING THE TOUCH SCREEN ON SYMBOL SCANNER Purpose: To adjust the touch screen on the symbol scanner. 1. On the scanner: Exit to the main desktop of the scanner. 2. On the scanner: Click on the Start button. 3. On the scanner: Click on Settings. 4. On the scanner: Click on Control Panel. 5. On the scanner: Scroll down and double click the Stylus Icon. 6. On the scanner: Select the Calibration tab at the top of the window. 7. On the scanner: Single click the Recalibrate button. 8. On the scanner: Carefully press and briefly hold stylus on the center of the target. Repeat as the target moves around the screen. 9. On the scanner: Press the ENT button on the scanner s keyboard. 10 10. On the scanner: Single click the OK button at the top of the screen. 11. On the scanner: Single click the X button in the top right corner of the screen to return to the desktop. Receiving with Symbol Scanner Process 10 Rev
