5 Upgrade History and Details Functions Added with Ver The following functions have been added in MPES- 3DQC1 Ver VTR control VTR controls can now be performed from this software. For details, see Connections on page 9, VTR Control Settings on page 31, Starting and Stopping Quality Control on page 44, and Reviewing Errors and Warnings on page 46. Input sources for ancillary time codes External (IN 3) can now be specified as an input source for the ancillary time code. For details, see Ancillary Time Code Settings on page 30. Adding comments to analysis results Comments can now be added to the quality control analysis results displayed in the [Review Warnings] screen. Enhanced measurement accuracy Measurement accuracy has been increased by further minimizing noise that occurs during depth and alignment measurement. 6 Chapter 1 Introduction Introduction Chapter1 Features The MPES-3DQC1 3D Quality Control Software allows you to control the quality of 3D images by analyzing disparities in the 3D image signals and distortions in the image in real time. This software measures and analyzes 3D image alignment errors, excessive depth, and color and brightness differences that were previously checked with the naked eye, and displays the analysis results on a display. As measurement data for disparities and 3D image distortion is output together with time code information as log data and problem points are clearly displayed in a list, this software greatly improves efficiency during post-production editing. Summaries of quality control analysis results can also be output as reports in PDF format. The MPES-3DQC1 software passes through audio and time codes as ancillary data. For details, see Pass-Through Specifications on page 60. Note This software does not detect discrepancies such as alignment discrepancies, excessive depth, focus differences, edge violations (frame violations), and color and brightness differences with 100% accuracy. This software operates on the MPE-200 unit and is controlled via a Web browser from a computer that is connected to the LAN. Quality control results are displayed in real time on a display that is connected to the MPE-200 unit. This manual describes how to install and operate the MPES-3DQC1 software. In addition to this manual, be sure to read the MPE-200 OPERATION MANUAL that is provided (supplied with the MPE-200). 6 Features

7 System Configuration Example The following is a configuration example for a system used for post-production. Use a Web browser to operate the MPES-3DQC1 software. Use the OUT 4 connector for output to monitors. You can input time codes from the IN 3 connector. Required Equipment The following are examples of the equipment required for configuring the system. For details on the compatibility of other equipment, please contact a Sony representative or dealer. 9 Preparations 2 Chapter Connections Connect each device to the system. The SRW-5800 is depicted and used as an example in this section. Chapter 2 Preparations 1 Connect the SRW-5800 to the terminal server. This connection is not necessary if you do not intend to control the VTR via this software. 10 Preparations for the MPE-200 Unit Connect the RS-232C port on the rear side of the MPE-200 unit to the serial port of the computer, using an RS-232C cable. Then use the terminal software of the computer to make the required settings for the MPE-200 unit. Press the Esc key on the keyboard, and then press the Shift + C within 1 second. Next, press the Enter key a few times. localhost login: will appear and communication will start. Logging in To make settings, log in to the MPE-200 unit as a maintenance user account. Maintenance user account information: username: setup password: sjx-311 After login is completed, the management software starts up automatically and a console screen appears. Tip The following four items on the initial screen are not used when installing this software. 11 Verifying the Operating Environment of the MPE-200 Unit Verify the versions of the firmware and software installed on the MPE-200 unit. 1 On the initial screen, select 4. 2 Verify that the following values appear for the versions in the Device Information that appears. Setting the Time Zone Firmware Version: 1.41 or later Software Version: 1.40 or later If upgrade is necessary, please contact a Sony service representative or dealer. Set the time zone as follows. This example shows how to set the time for Japan. The factory default setting is JST (Japan Standard Time). Chapter 2 Preparations 1 On the initial screen, select 1. tzselect starts up. 2 Select 5) Asia from the region selection. 3 Select 19) Japan from the country selection. 12 Setting the Clock The internal clock of the MPE-200 is set at the factory, but the setting can be changed as follows if required. 1 On the initial screen, select 2. The current date and time are shown as follows. Chapter 2 Preparations Clock adjust : 57: 08 ==>_ 2 Enter the date and time using the same format as above. Clock adjust : 57: 08 ==> : 00: 00 A confirmation message appears. 3 Enter y and press the Enter key. Tip If you press the Enter key without any input, the following screen appears. To redo the input, enter n. Clock adjust : 57: 08 ==> Cancel([y]es/[n]o)?_ When the setting is complete, the initial screen returns again. Making Network Settings Make network settings as follows. eth0 refers to the NETWORK-1 connector on the rear of the MPE-200 unit. eth1 refers to the NETWORK-2 connector on the rear of the MPE-200 unit. To configure a network with the computer on which the MPES-3DQC1 software will be controlled, either connector can be used. The unit is shipped with preliminary settings for IP address and subnet mask. Change these settings as required for your network environment. 1 On the initial screen, select 3. 2 Make network device settings as follows. Example: Setting eth0 to Select eth0. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to eth0 and press the Enter key. 12 Preparations for the MPE-200 Unit

13 2Make eth0 settings. Enter the fixed IP address in the Static IP field, and enter the subnet mask in the Netmask field Network Configuration Name eth0 Device eth0 Use DHCP [ ] Static IP Netmask Default gateway IP Ok Cancel To use this software, place a check mark next to Use DHCP. If necessary, set a value for the Default gateway IP field. Chapter 2 Preparations Tip The factory default settings are as follows. Static IP: Netmask: Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to OK and press the Enter key. When the setting is complete, the initial screen returns again. 3 Reboot the MPE-200 unit. (see page 15) Installing the Software on the MPE-200 Unit Copy this software installation package to a USB memory for installation on the MPE-200 unit. This software will start and stop automatically along with startup and shutdown of the MPE-200 unit. Tip The installation package consists of the following files and folders, which are created when unzipping MPES-3DQC1_****_install_package.zip. : Depending on the software version, file names and number of files may be different. 14 Note If multiple USB memory media are connected to the MPE-200 unit, the installation will not be carried out correctly. If another USB memory is connected to the MPE-200 unit, disconnect it. 1 Unzip the installation package and copy all files and folders to the root directory (topmost folder) of a USB memory media. Then connect the media to the MPE-200 unit. 2 On the initial screen, select 5. Chapter 2 Preparations 3 Select 1. MPES-3DQC1 Sony 3D Quality Control software ****. A confirmation message appears. Are you sure([y]es/[n]o)?_ 4 Enter y and press the Enter key. 5 Enter the installation key that is provided with the installation package you obtained, and press the Enter key. Input the installation key code: _ The installation key consists of 16 alphanumeric characters. A confirmation message appears. 6 Enter y and press the Enter key. The installation starts. When the installation is complete, the initial screen returns again. 7 Disconnect the USB memory media. Selecting the Software 1 On the initial screen, select 9. The installed application appears. 2 Select the MPES-3DQC1 number. A confirmation message appears. 3 Enter y and press the Enter key. 14 Preparations for the MPE-200 Unit

16 Setting Up the Terminal Server Install the Perle Device Manager Software on the computer, and configure settings such as the IP address and serial port of the terminal server. These setup configurations are not necessary if you do not intend to control the VTR via this software. Chapter 2 Preparations Tip Once the terminal server settings are configured, they do not have to be configured again unless changes are necessary. 1 Install the Perle Device Manager Software on the computer. You can download the Perle Device Manager Software by accessing the following URL and clicking Utilities. 2 Start Perle Device Manager. The terminal servers connected to the network will be listed in the Establish Connection to... dialog box. 3 Select the terminal server you want to configure, and click [Assign IP]. Note After the terminal server is turned on, the terminal server requires about 2 minutes to prepare before it can respond to connection requests from Device Manager. Tip If the subnet differs, the terminal server may not appear in the list. In such cases, press the reset button on the terminal server to restore its default settings, and repeat step 2 to make the terminal server appear in the list. The dialog box for IP address configuration appears. 16 Setting Up the Terminal Server

17 4 Enter the IP address to be assigned to the terminal server, and click [Assign IP]. Example: The Establish Connection to... dialog box appears again. Chapter 2 Preparations 5 Click [OK]. The Login dialog box appears. 6 Enter the password, and click [OK]. The password is superuser. When login is successful, the settings summary screen for the terminal server appears. 18 7 Select [Serial] in the tree to the left, and click [Serial Port] in the area to the right. Chapter 2 Preparations The screen changes as follows. 8 Select the serial port you want to configure, and click [Edit]. Tip For SDS16 terminal servers, 16 serial ports (1 to 16) will appear. The Serial Port 1 Settings dialog box appears. 18 Setting Up the Terminal Server

19 9 If TruePort does not appear for [Profile], click [Change Profile]. If TruePort does appear, skip to step 11. Chapter 2 Preparations The Choose Serial Port Profile dialog box appears. 10Select [TruePort], and click [OK]. The Choose Serial Port Profile dialog box closes. Setting Up the Terminal Server 19

20 11In the [General] tab, select [Add Host...] in the [Host Name] drop-down list. Chapter 2 Preparations The Host Entry dialog box appears. 12Select [IP Address], enter the host name and IP address, and click [OK]. Host Name: Enter a name that will be easily identifiable during management. (e.g., VTR_1 when controlling the VTR as VTR1 with this software.) IP Address: Configure the IP address of the MPE-200 unit that will control the terminal server s serial port (Serial Port 1 in this example). 21 13Enter the TCP port number in [TCP Port]. The TCP port number is the last section of the IP address. 23 16Click the [Packet Forwarding] tab, select [Minimize Latency], and click [OK]. Chapter 2 Preparations The Serial Port 1 Settings dialog box closes. 17When settings are complete, click [Download All Changes] at the bottom left. A confirmation message appears. 18Click [Yes]. 25 Preparations for the Computer Prepare a computer that can connect to the MPE-200 unit and a LAN. Operating Environment To operate this software, a computer meeting the following requirements is necessary. Operating system (OS): Windows 7 Service Pack 1, 32-bit/64-bit, English version For details on other supported operating systems, please contact a Sony service representative or dealer. CPU: 1.6 GHz or higher RAM: 2 GB or more Graphics chip: Intel or NVIDIA HDD available space: 100 GB or more Monitor resolution: pixels or pixels Web browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 Chapter 2 Preparations Starting the Software Access the MPE-200 unit from the Web browser, and start the software. 1 Start the Web browser on the computer. 26 2 Enter address or host name of the unit>:80/ in the address bar of the Web browser. If the HTTP port number is set to a number other than 80 in the browser s settings, be sure to specify port number 80. Example: The software starts, and the [System] screen appears. Chapter 2 Preparations Notes Disable the sleep mode function of your computer s operating system. Do not operate the MPES-3DQC1 software from multiple computers, multiple Web browsers, or multiple tabs on a browser simultaneously. Doing so may result in function and setting errors. Tip If you cannot connect to the MPES-3DQC1 software, check the proxy settings. Quitting the Software Hold down the power button on the MPE-200 unit for 1 to 2 seconds to quit the software. This software cannot be quit from the computer screen. 26 Preparations for the Computer

27 Quality Control for 3D Images 3 Chapter Operation Flow Configure the necessary settings and perform measurement and quality control analysis for 3D images according to the following operation flow. 28 Configuring System Settings In the [System] screen, view system information and configure system-related settings such as the video format and time code settings. Viewing System Information You can view the software version, MPE-200 unit version, and system messages in [System Information]. If the System Message indicator appears in the QC monitoring display or stereo monitoring display, the contents of the message can be viewed here. When the error is resolved, No System Messages. is displayed. 28 Configuring System Settings

29 Video Format Settings and Input Format for Video Signals You can configure the video format settings and input format of video signals in [Video Setup]. Configuring video format settings When you click [Apply], the MPE-200 unit will restart and the video format settings will be applied to the system. Notes If Left (IN 1), Right (IN 2), or External (IN 3) is selected and a time code is not included in the video, an error message will appear and analysis will not begin when you attempt to start analysis from the [Control] screen. If a time code is not included in the input from IN 1/2, you can use IN 3 to input an external time code. Make sure that the format of the input signal to IN 3 is the same as the format you configured in Configuring video format settings on page 29. 32 Configuring Display Settings In the [Display] screen, configure the output format for the QC monitoring display and stereo monitoring display connected to the MPE-200 unit. For details on the information that appears on the displays, see Viewing the Displays on page 50. Marker Settings With this software, you can display error/warning markers on the images in the QC monitoring display and stereo monitoring display when 3D image depth and local focus problems occur, or when frame (edge) violations occur. Specifying the display on which the markers will appear Specify the display on which the markers will appear under [Show Markers]. Show Markers on Main Output: Place a check mark here to display markers on displays connected to the OUT 1 and OUT 2 connectors. Output Format Settings Show Outline Only: Place a check mark here if you want to show only the outlines of the squares (s) used for the Depth Warning indicators (see page 50) in the display. Remove the check mark if you want the squares filled in (x). Overlay Type: Select the status for which to display markers. All Markers: Display all depth information markers. Warnings Only: Display markers only for depth information with warnings or errors. No Markers: Disable display of all markers on all displays. Select the output format for video signals to the stereo monitoring display and QC monitoring display. The same output formats are available for both the stereo monitoring display and the QC monitoring display. Side by Side: The left half of the screen is made up by the L image signal, and the right half by the R image signal. Both L and R are compressed to 1/2 size in the horizontal direction. Above Below: The top half of the screen is made up by the L image signal, and the bottom half by the R image signal. Both L and R are compressed to 1/2 size in the vertical direction. Left Only: Only the L image signal is output. Right Only: Only the R image signal is output. Anaglyph: Old-style output which gives a stereoscopic image when using glasses with red and blue filters. 50% Mix: L and R image signals are mixed at 50% each. Difference: Parts where the L and R image signals match are represented in gray, and non-matching parts are output with the original color and luminance. Difference Y: Compares the luminance of the L and R image signals. Parts where the brightness signal matches are shown in gray. Parts where the brightness is different are shown in black and white, according to the degree of difference. Checkerboard: L and R image signals are output alternately in a checkerboard pattern. Split Screen: The output is switched partway, so that the left half of the screen is made up by the L image signal, and the right half by the R image signal. The default setting is [Side by Side]. 34 Managing Projects A project is a file in which [System], [Display], and [Control] settings are saved, and is used during startup of the MPE-200 unit. Multiple projects can be saved, and you can select which project to use according to purpose. A default project is provided with this system. You can manage projects in the [Project] screen. Tip [Video Format] settings will not be saved in a project. (see page 29) Saving the Current Settings as a Project Save the [System], [Display], and [Control] settings as a project. 1 Configure the settings in the [System] screen (page 28), [Display] screen (page 32), and [Control] screen (page 44) as necessary. 2 Enter a project name (up to 20 alphanumeric characters) in [Project Name] under [Save Current Settings As Project], and click [Save]. Note If you enter the name of the currently loaded project, the project will be overwritten. Tip The default project file cannot be overwritten. In addition, you cannot use default as project name. If you want use the selected project at the next startup, place a check mark next to [Also load at next start-up]. Deleting a Project Tip You can view the current project name next to [Current project] and the project that will be used at the next startup next to [Next Start-Up project]. Select a project to delete in [Project Name] under [Delete Existing Project], and click [Delete]. Tip You cannot delete the default project. Note Recovered Settings may appear next to [Current project] in some cases. This feature is included as a backup measure for when the MPE-200 system unexpectedly malfunctions or shuts down abnormally. In such cases, Recovered Settings will appear after the next system startup. Project settings are periodically saved to this file once every minute. Although this file is deleted during normal shutdown, it will not be deleted during an abnormal shutdown. This allows the project settings from before the abnormal shutdown to be restored. 36 Managing Profiles A profile is a file in which [Measurements] settings are saved. Multiple profiles can be saved, and you can select which profile to use according to purpose. The defaulthardlimit, defaultsoftlimit, and defaultstrictlimit profiles are provided with this system. You can manage profiles in the [Profile] screen. Tips The defaulthardlimit profile is intended for checking completed packages during post-production. The defaultsoftlimit profile is intended for basic checking of pre-edit materials. The defaultstrictlimit profile is provided in response to the numerous feedback received from users. The setting values in this profile are configured with safe viewing in mind and are lower than those of the defaulthardlimit profile. Saving the Current Settings as a Profile Save the [Measurements] settings as a profile. 1 Configure the settings in the [Measurements] screen (page 39) as necessary. 2 Enter a profile name (up to 20 alphanumeric characters) in [Profile Name] under [Save Current Settings As Profile], and click [Save]. 36 Managing Profiles

You can export profiles stored on the MPE-200 unit to the computer. 1 Select a profile to export in [Profile Name] under [Export Existing Profile], and click [Export]. The File Download dialog box appears. 2 Specify a location to save the profile, and click [Save]. The profile is exported to the computer. Uploading a Profile You can upload profiles stored on the computer to the MPE-200 unit. 1 Click next to [Filename] under [Upload Profile File]. The Choose File to Upload dialog box appears. 2 Specify the location of the profile, and click [Open]. The path is displayed next to [Filename]. 3 Click [Upload]. The specified profile is uploaded. Configuring an Exemption Period Under [Short Term Duration], you can specify a period of time after starting quality control during which a discrepancy will be exempt from being determined as an error. If the values configured for the [Main] settings described in the following sections continue beyond the duration configured under [Short Term Duration], an error will be recorded in the QC monitoring display and PDF output file. 40 Configuring the Permissible Amount of Depth for 3D Images By configuring the maximum values for the near-end and far-end disparity under [Depth Parameters], you can configure the permissible amount of depth for 3D images. With 100% being the horizontal width of the screen, configure the permissible values for the near-end and far-end to specify an amount of disparity that is appropriate for the type of content you want to create. Place a check mark next to the item you want to configure, and enter the setting values. (The checkboxes are enabled under default conditions.) Configuring Quality Control Settings for Edge Violation An edge violation (frame violation) occurs when parts of an object that is in front of the screen are cropped due to the screen frame. When this occurs, viewers may not be able to distinguish the shapes of objects and may experience discomfort. You can configure quality control settings for edge violation under [Edge Violation]. The settings are configured as percentages. An edge violation of 1% indicates that a foreground object at the edge of the screen has a 1% difference between L and R (i.e., a 1% difference in depth). 44 Starting and Stopping Quality Control You can start and stop quality control analysis in the [Control] screen. Note If a time code is not included in a video before quality control analysis is started, the analysis may not occur properly. For proper analysis, add a time code or set [Time Code Source] to [Internal] in the [System] screen. (see page 30) The current status is displayed. Ready: Preparations complete. Waiting for IN point : Waiting to arrive at In point. Cueing IN point...: Cuing up to In point. Running: Quality control analysis in progress. 1 Select a category under which to categorize the quality control results in [Category Name]. Categories that were created in the [Manage QC Results] screen can be selected here. (see page 48) If you want to specify a new category, click [Add] to display a screen, and then enter a category name (up to 20 alphanumeric characters) and click [OK]. 2 Select a name for the quality control results in [Program Name]. If you want to specify a new name, click [New] to display a screen, and then enter a program name (up to 20 alphanumeric characters) and click [OK]. 3 Specify the duration for quality control. To specify the quality control duration using the time code Place a check mark next to [In/Out Points], and enter the In and Out points. Tip To perform VTR controls, press the 9Pin button on the front panel of the VTR to light it, and then click [Connect to VTR] on this screen. (play): Play the video at 1x speed. (pause): Pause the video at the current frame. (rewind): Rewind. (fast forward): Fast forward. (frame back): Move back one frame. (frame forward): Move forward one frame. (jump to start): Cue up to the start point for analysis. (jump to end): Cue up to the end point for analysis. Tip You can also perform VTR controls from the keyboard. 46 Reviewing Errors and Warnings You can view details on errors and warnings in the [Review Warnings] screen Select the category name and program name. Categories and programs that were created in the [Control] screen (see page 44), and categories that were created in the [Manage QC Results] screen (see page 48) can be selected here. 2 Click [Start Review]. Information on images for which errors or warnings were detected is displayed in a list. 3 Review the quality control analysis results in the Reviewing warnings pages. Click [OK] for items that are not problems, [Warn] for items that you want to mark as warnings, and [Bad] for items that you want to mark as errors. The icon will change (to,, or ) according to the button you click. You can add comments if necessary. Click the comment entry box to enlarge the entry field. You can enter up to 160 alphanumeric characters and symbols for the comment. You can view the images using the VTR control buttons. 46 Reviewing Errors and Warnings

Depth may not be detected properly in images that include repeating patterns, such as images of beach sands, grassy plains, metallic mesh, and mosaic designs. Be sure to visually review the quality check results of such images. If the cue-up point for pre-roll or cue-up cannot be found while controlling a VTR from this software, a message appears and VTR operations are stopped. Reviewing Errors and Warnings 47

48 Quality Control Result Management In the [Manage QC Results] screen, you can perform operations such as displaying the results of quality control analysis and obtaining log files. Quality control results are managed by category. Managing Categories You can add and delete categories for management under [Category]. To add a category 1 Click [Add]. The dialog box for adding a category appears. 2 Enter a category name (up to 20 alphanumeric characters), and click [OK]. The dialog box closes, and the category name appears in the list. To delete a category 1 Select the category you want to delete from the list, and click [Delete]. A confirmation message appears. 2 Click [OK]. 49 Managing Quality Control Results You can perform operations such as viewing quality control results and outputting summary reports in PDF format under [Program] Select a category 2 Select a program (quality control result). 3 Click the following buttons according to purpose. Summary: Display a summary of the quality control results as a PDF file. The PDF file will be created on the MPE-200 unit. Graph: Display a graph that indicates 3D depth in the area below the list. Log: Display a log for each field if the format is interlace, and each frame if the format is progressive. The logs are output in XML file format (log.xml). For details on viewing logs, see Quality Control Result Log Details (log.xml) on page 54. Delete: Delete the selected program. Tip We recommend deleting quality control results that have become unnecessary on a regular basis. Notes To conserve disk space, the maximum number of error instance displays is 2,500. Errors beyond this limit will not appear in the PDF summary file. The time axis of the depth graph may appear very short or the depth graph may not appear at all in some cases. When In and Out points are not specified, the time setting configured for Max Duration is used as a basis for the length of the graph display. If quality control analysis ends after an exceedingly short period due to the Max Duration setting, the graph will be created with an exceedingly short time axis or will not be created at all. If In and Out points are specified and quality control analysis is forcibly stopped after a period that is considerably shorter than the duration between the In and Out points, the same results will occur. If the duration of quality control analysis is 1/600 or less of the configured duration, the graph will not be created. If you do not specify In and Out points, be sure to specify an appropriate value for the Max Duration setting. If you do specify In and Out points, do not forcibly stop the analysis after a period that is considerably shorter than the duration between the In and Out points. Red if even one error exists. Amber if no errors exist, but even one warning exists. Green if no errors or warnings exist. Gray if none of the data can be measured. e Edge violations Triangle icons (B) indicate locations where edge violations occur. f System Message If a problem occurs with this software or with a connected MPE-200 unit, System Message is displayed. You can view details in the [System] screen on the computer. (see page 28) g Video signal output format Displays the format of the video signals output to the QC monitoring display. (see page 32) h Alignment analysis Displays vertical offset, roll angle, and scale values. Tip If the depth or alignment value cannot be measured due to the image being dark or blurry, a hyphen will appear instead of the value. i 3D depth analysis Displays depth information contained in the currently displayed 3D image as a histogram.
