4 1.1 INTRODUCTION SECTION I GENERAL DESCRIPTION This instruction manual is to be used as a guide to the installation, adjustment, operation and maintenance of the Colorado Video Model 307 Horizontal Video Caliper. 1.2 PURPOSE OF EQUIPMENT The primary purpose of the Model 307 is dimensional analysis of objects seen by a TV camera. 1.3 DESCRIPTION OF EQUIPMENT The CVI Model 307 accepts standard, composite, video signals and superimposes two vertical white lines on the reproduced image as seen on a TV monitor. The marker lines may be manually positioned over 80% of the active TV raster, and separated by as much as 80% of the screen width. Displacement of the two marker lines generates a linear DC voltage change which is displayed on a front panel digital voltmeter.

6 SECTION II OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 2.1 INTRODUCTION This section contains the general operating instructions and procedures for the Model 307 Video Caliper. 2.2 INITIAL INSTALLATION Connect the composite video signal from TV camera to the 307 VIDE IN connector. Connect the VIDEO OUT to the input of a television monitor. Set the 307 controls as follows: Position: Separation: Calibration: Midrange CCW CCW Observe that turning the SEPARATION control CW will move the right cursor out from under the left cursor. Both cursors will simultaneously follow the POSITION control. 2.3 OPERATION The Model 307 must be calibrated to the system in which it is installed. Any time that the camera, optics (lens or microscope), or distance to the target being measured is changed, the Model 307 s calibration must also be changed. Three separate calibrations can be made and then selected from as needed during routine use. The calibrate switch selects between the calibrations. The three screwdriver-adjusted potentiometers above the switch are separately used to make each of the three calibrations. To make the calibrations: A. Once your measurement system is completely set up, place a known reference in the field of view. B. With the position control (which moves both cursors) place the left cursor on the left edge of the reference. C. With the separation control (which moves only the right cursor) place the right cursor on the right edge of the reference. D. Select one of the three calibration settings with the calibration switch.

7 E. With a small screwdriver, adjust the corresponding calibration potentiometer in order to obtain the appropriate numerical reading for the reference. F. This procedure should be completed for the remaining two calibration selections. To take a measurement: A. Select the appropriate preset calibration with the calibration switch. B. Place the object to be measured in the field of view. C. With the position control (which moves both cursors) place the left cursor on the left edge of the object. D. With the separation control (which moves only the right cursor) place the right cursor on the right edge of the object. E. Read the distance between the cursors from the LCD display. F. If desired, multiple objects within the field of view can be easily compared by moving both cursors with the position control. The distance between the cursors is maintained until the separation control is used. FRONT PANEL TABLE 1 CONTROL FUNCTIONS Power: Calibration: (3) LED above POWER switch; indicates presence of -6 volts regulated supply. Normalizes the Digital Panel Meter to read any value with cursor separation of 1/3 the screen or greater. It may be convenient to measure a standard calibration target then to adjust thecalibration control to read Subjects compared to this reference will be measured by the ratio of size. A reading of 1005 would then indicate 0.5% oversize. Alternately, the CALIBRATION control may be adjusted to read the numerical value of a test scale or grating. Then the Digital Panel Meter would indicate in millimeters or microns directly. Position: Separation: The POSITION control moves both cursors over 80% of the screen. Position does not affect the separation or alter the measured value. Moves the right cursor with respect to the left. The Digital Panel Meter directly reflects numerical value proportional to the separation (the precise scale of the readings is adjusted with the CALIBRATION control).

In no event shall Colorado Video, Incorporated be liable for damages of any kind connected with the use of its equipment or its failure to function properly. This warranty shall not apply to any equipment which shall have been repaired or altered outside of Colorado Video, Incorporated s laboratories so as to, in Colorado Video, Incorporated s judgement, affect its use, function, reliability, or which shall have been subject to misuse, alteration, improper installation, negligence, or accident. Before any equipment is returned to Colorado Video, Incorporated for repairs or adjustments, shipping instructions should be obtained from Colorado Video, Incorporated.
