4 Chapter :Overview Introduction UHF860 is a slickly designed ultra high frequency RFID reader with a reading range of 5 meters. It has widely varied applications such as Asset Control, Transportation Management, Logistic of Items Management etc. We strongly suggest you read this manual in details before you start the setup. What s in the box? UHF860 set is delivered with the basic package covering: One UHF860 Reader, one CD and one accessory pack as below illustration. Please check the package first to make sure you have received all device and the components before you start to configure or install the UHF860 reader and antenna. 9 Chapter :Installation of UHF860 Usage recommendation before getting started UHF860 RFID Reader. First please check that all the necessary devices and equipments you have prepared.. Suggested list as follows: One set of PC equipped with the operating systems of Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7 or Up One set of UHF860 RFID Reader One piece of bundled Disk 544 contenting UHF reader utility and documents One piece of UHF TAG with EPC Gen standard One set of ANT800US or ANT800EU Antenna and one 3- meter N type to SMA coaxial cable One piece of power supply with 7.5~VDC at A or above One piece of RS3 Communication cable Then please refer to page 8 to begin the hardware installation, select first what interfacing you will do with the PC. 3. This hardware manual introduces basic hardware information and setting, in normal usage, once you did the basic setup;, you will be able to access to UHF Reader Utility to do the configuration in the (Basic Setting) for a quick start. After you complete the basic setting; apply live Demo\ Auto Read to test the UHF tag reading. 4. Second install start up the installation of the UHF Reader Utility Program Please refer to software manual TM97076_UHF Reader Utility for setting up. The details of documents can be obtained in Disk544. Open UHF Utility program. Utility program splash screen

10 . Notice: Please note that the basic setting is tested with ACURA s standard antenna ANT800 and UHF Reader Utility with the Basic Setting value. The output value could be different depending on the features of other brand antennas or UHF tags you are applying with (ANT800 antenna is the optional device to work with UHF860 developed by ACURA). You are able to do the further complete configuration in advanced setting to meet your on site applications. ( go further to UHF utility)

11 5. Mainly there are 4 available interfacing modes of UHF860 to work with PC/Controller, RS3, Single RS485, Multiple RS485 and Wiegand. Please refer to the one you are applying with. RS3 communication Please refer to the below illustration for wiring connection and communication. 12 RS3 Installation procedure:. Apply the bundled coaxial antenna cable to connect to ANT800 with it s N end.. Then apply the other SMA end of the coaxial antenna cable to connect to any one of UHF860 s SMA antenna ports which will detect the tags. 3. Do not power on unless you have secured and connected the power supply to UHF Reader s I/O Pins for and communication. 4. Connect the wires of TX/RX at RS3 cable to UHF860 s TX/RX I/O pins. 5. Connect RS3 connector with it s cable to PC com port ( If the PC is not equipped with the RS3 port, the alternative way is applying a RS3/USB converter to communicate with PC USB port.) 6. After UHF860 reader is powering up; the Yellow LED and Green LED will light on then. 7. Next is to run the software called UHF Reader Utility and assign the available com port. 8. Click on Scan button to detect the UHF860 reader 9. Device found message will pop up on the screen, when the UHF860 reader is detected. 0. Next click on Auto mode to test Tags reading. Adjust the UHF Tag to face the reading range within 5M and situate in front of ANT800 ( Antenna). You will see the EPC IDs displaying on UHF Reader Utility screen and indicates which antenna is scanning them..

13 Single RS485 communication Please refer to the below illustration for wiring connection and communication. 14 Single RS485 Installation procedure: The procedure is same as RS3 communication The difference is applying a RS485 cable to connect to PC.. Apply the bundled coaxial antenna cable to connect to ANT800 with it s N end.. Then apply the other SMA end of the coaxial antenna cable to connect to one of UHF860 s SMA antenna ports. 3. Do not power on unless you have secured and connected the power supply to UHF Reader s I/O Pins for and communication. 4. Connect the end of +/- at RS485 cable to UHF860 s I/O Pin for RS485+/-. 5. Connect another end of UB485 converter cable to PC s UBS port. 6. After UHF860 reader is powering up; the Yellow LED and Green LED will light on then. 7. Next is to run the software called UHF Reader Utility to assign the available com port. 8. Click on Scan button to detect UHF860 reader 9. Device found message will pop up on the screen, when the UHF860 reader is detected. 0. Next click on Auto mode to kick off Tags reading. Adjust the UHF Tag to face the reading range within 5M and situate in front of ANT800 (Antenna). You will see the EPC IDs displaying on UHF Reader Utility screen and indicates which antenna is scanning them Multiple RS485 communication Please refer to the following illustration of connection to PC

17 Multiple RS485 Installation procedure:. Before getting started with Multiple RS485 connection, you need to distribute every single UHF reader with it s unique ID first. The default ID is at 55 for Single device connection which is not workable for multiple devices connection. This is to avoid the data collision and secure the data transmission is received well.. Open UHF Reader Utility program and go to Device Setting Advance Interface. Select Mulit-RS485 Device ID. The range is from 0~54 for selection. 3. Connect every UHF860 reader to the RS485 cable in sequence and adding a 0 ohm resister at the end of the+ /- RS485 cable. Please refer to Page for how to wire the network. 4. Apply the bundled coaxial antenna cable to connect to ANT800 with it s N end. 5. Then apply the other SMA end of the coaxial antenna cable to connect to one of UHF860 s SMA antenna ports. 6. Do not power on before you secure the output +/+ current of power supply to UHF860 s I/O and pins. 7. Connect the end of +/- at RS485 cable to UHF860 s I/O Pin for RS485+/-. 8. Connect the head of RS485 cable to RS485A converter then connect to PC s USB port Refer to page and page 3 for network wiring. 9. After UHF860 reader is powering up; the Yellow LED and Green LED will light on then. 0. Then open Multi-RS485 Utility and assign a comport to communicate.. Click on Scan Begin to Detect UHF860. When the device is detected, an UHF860 icon will show up. Click on it to enter the reader properties configuration. 3. Click on Auto mode to start Tags scanning.

18 4. Adjust the UHF Tag to face the reading range within 5M and situate in front of ANT800 (Antenna). You will see the EPC IDs displaying on UHF Reader Utility screen and indicates which antenna is scanning them

20 Wiegand Installation procedures. Apply the bundled coaxial antenna cable to connect to ANT800 with it s N end. Then apply the other SMA end of the coaxial antenna cable to connect to one of UHF860 s SMA antenna ports. 3. Do not power on before you secure the output +/+ current of power supply to UHF860 s I/O and pins. 4. Connect the RS3 TX/RX wires to UHF860 s RX/TX I/O pins. 5. Next connect the RS3 connector head to PC s RS3 com port. If your PC is not equipped with an RS3 com port, you need to add an RS3/USB converter for the communication. Please also refer to RS3 communication section for the details. 6. If you are connecting to a Wiegand interface controller, then connect UHF680 I/O pins of DO/DO to the controller s Do/D port ( we suggest to add a Pullhigh resister on D0/D wire as illustration on page After UHF860 reader is powering up; the Yellow LED and Green LED will light on 8. Then open Multi-RS485 Utility and assign a comport to communicate. 9. Click on Scan Begin to Detect UHF When the device is detected, an UHF860 icon will show up. Click on it to enter the reader properties configuration. Click on Wiegand interface data output in Basic properties setting on UHF Reader Utility, then click on SET to write the configured data to UHF860 reader.. Go to Auto Mode to start Tag detecting. 3. Adjust the UHF Tag to face the reading range within 5M and situate in front of ANT800 (Antenna). You will see the EPC IDs displaying on UHF Reader Utility screen and indicates which antenna is scanning them

21 Chapter 3:Trouble shooting UHF860 RFID Reader Frequency Ask Question Q: Why I cannot find UHF860 reader after running UHF Reader Utility? Answer:. Check if the Yellow LED and Green LED are running on UHF860 device. Check if the cable and power supply are wired in correct. 3. Check if the connectors are terminated and secured well between PC/Controller and UHF860 Q: Why there is no feedback from any of the UHF Tags? Answer:. Check Antenna, coaxial cable are connected well and working. Also check if the antenna (there are 4 antenna from channel to 4) is in correct assignment.. Check if the tag is right in the front of the antenna 3. Check if the tag is workable 4. Check if you are using the right e tag and comply to ISO8000 Class Gen 5. Move the tag closer to the antenna Q3:How to do when the distance is too short or tags are in hassle conditions? Answer:. Please check if there is the other UHF reader with the same frequency nearby.. Please check if there is any large electronic equipment working around 3. Make sure that there is no obstacle between the antenna and the tag 4. Please check if the antenna is in parallel or horizontal position to the UHF Tag 5. Make sure that every UHF Tag is not too closed to each other or piled. 6. Make sure there is no metal material or liquid attached to the UHF Tag. Q4: How to connect UHF860 to PC? Answer:.
