3 Distance Distance, Size and Speed The distance between your sign and its viewers is the number one factor in determining the type of LED display to consider. For example, if your sign will come into the view of traffic at a distance of 300 feet, you should have a sign that can be programmed to display 6-inch or larger characters. The rule of thumb for LED signs is 1-inch of character height for every 50 feet of viewing distance. Viewing time is dependent on obstructions, traffic speed, character size and character style. Viewing Angles LEDs can output a narrow beam of light like a spotlight, or a wide array like a floodlight.
