This document contains the latest information about the new Polycom VS4000 TM model, running 5.1 software. What s New? The VS4000 is now available in a compact form factor, making it even easier to integrate the system into conference rooms and auditoriums. The dimensions of the new system are 2U high x 17.5 wide x 10 deep, providing greater access to the back panel when mounted in a standard rack. The enhanced VS4000 system has been designed to use the Polycom PowerCam as the main camera. This eliminates the need for an external infra-red sensor when the system is installed outside of the conference room. Note: The cabling for additional cameras (including PowerCam) differs from the main camera cabling. Refer to Setting up the VS4000 for details. The back panel of the VS4000 unit has been enhanced: The S-video signal is now provided through a pair of BNC connectors. The increased isolation between the Y and C signals improves the video quality, and the locking mechanism of the BNC connectors ensures that the cables are secure. February 4, /A
The system now ships with two S-video cables that have the standard S-video connector at one end and two BNC connectors at the other end. In addition, four short adapters are included. Camera control connectors for cameras 1 and 4 have been re-positioned for ease of access, as have the serial port and the VGA connector. 5.1 Software Features Enhancements The following software enhancements have been made: Polycom Video Error Concealment (PVEC) can now be disabled. In addition to the Sony D-30 and Sony D-100, The ELMO PTC100S and PTC110R external cameras are also supported. Cameras 1 and 4 can be configured to send 4CIF video in both the user interface and from the web interface. Added the following API enhancements: If someone requests chair control when another person has it, a message states that someone else already has the chair. when a system becomes the presenter in a conference, a message is sent to the API and displayed. The API sends a message if the system is in a conference that supports chair control. If a call participant requests to be the broadcaster, the site that has the chair is notified that another site has requested to become broadcaster. In previous releases, this request was granted with no intervention from the chair. When a system with a Visual Concert FX detects an input signal, the Visual Concert FX begins displaying the graphics instantly, in or out of a call. You do not need to press any buttons on the Visual Concert FX or the remote control. Due to this change, plugging in or waking up a system that is connected to a Visual Concert FX in a call will now cause your graphics to begin displaying instantly. If you are receiving graphics at this time, it will shut off that graphics stream and begin sending yours. When power is cycled on a VS4000 system, the camera automatically moves to preset 0. The default for this preset is the main camera, front and center, zoomed out. If a new preset 0 is saved, the camera will go the new preset 0 position. You can now dial a POTS call from the web interface. Changed default dialing speed in many sections from 2X64 to 128K bonded. The system returns to the main screen and enters sleep mode even if the system not on the main screen. You can set the Screen Saver Wait Time on the General Setup screen. You can now set the screen saver wait time from the web interface
Resolved Issues The following issues have been resolved in this version: The administrator can now use GMS provisioning to set values on the security screen. In multipoint gateway calls, the ViewStation FX MCU can be muted without affecting the audio from the other sites. Choosing the second PTZ camera using camera presets no longer causes the camera to zoom out. It moves to the preset position. Video Switching can now be recorded on the VCR out port when the echo canceller is turned off. In calls using an Avaya bridge, the system now switches presenters correctly when chair control is used to select a broadcaster, then voice activated switching is selected. Enhanced graphics routes when in an MCU call at the MCU location. Account codes are now removed five minutes after they are entered. Changed the VS4000 system s output frequency to a VGA monitor to 60Hz from 75Hz to work with monitors that do not send DDC information. The far site camera now moves to the appropriate presets in all configurations. The call type selection box now works properly on H.323-only systems registered with a Gatekeeper. On Quad BRI systems, the ISDN number(s) of a system behind a hunt group may now be set to all zeros. This no longer causes the system to stop answering incoming calls following a system reset. ISDN calls made immediately after a system restart will now connect properly and without video problems. POTS calls can now be placed successfully from Speed Dial selections, without reboot issues. Far site camera control now works when registered with PathNavigator 1.1. Checking Auto-Discover NAT when no external WAN link is accessible no longer causes problems. Calls through a NAT to a VS4000 system running 4.2 software now connect properly. You can now enter the characters # and * as a part of the system name from the web interface. Changed the IP Precedence default value to 5 and the diffserv default value to 2. There is no longer an issue with GMS reporting the gatekeeper status incorrectly
The preset baud rate for RS232 control is now always set correctly by the system. In multipoint conferences, the system no longer disconnects the wrong site or all sites regardless of the site that was chosen. The chair control issue has been corrected Direct connect V.35 systems can now answer inbound 2x56k calls. The system now sends the correct IP address to the gatekeeper when registering from behind a NAT. In multipoint H.323 calls, video is now displayed properly in cases where the first site is capable of H.263 and the next site is only capable of H.261. When using an external bridge in an H.320 conference, the system continues to send and receive video properly when the bridge requests 4CIF. The discussion mode screen is now centered, not shifted to the left in multipoint calls. The web interface now updates the system properly when you change the Only send preferred Alias to the Gatekeeper setting. The Polycom Management Access Control Wizard can now successfully clear Custom Numbers configured in a system. A new version of PMAC is required to resolve this issue. From your system s web interface main page, click the PMAC Utility link at the bottom of the page and download the latest application version # If the system is configured for V.35 and IP calls, and auto-answer is turned off, the system can now receive inbound IP calls. The system now allows you to enter the port after the IP address when it is registered with a gatekeeper. After entering the IP address, press the right arrow to put a colon at the end. You can then enter the port number. Where there are two address book entries with identical numbers at the end of the string, the system now dials the entry that is selected, rather than the one that is listed first. Issues with French, German, and Norwegian translations have been corrected. Editing an existing address book entry no longer creates a new entry rather than replacing the existing one. Creating a new address book entry no longer causes it to be added to the speed dial list. Address book entries with names that start with a number can now be locked on the speed dial screen. If the system is in a call and has a laptop connected to the Visual Concert FX, it no longer stops the incoming graphics stream from the far site if the laptop is disconnected
If a laptop using an unsupported resolution or refresh rate is connected to the Visual Concert FX, the screen no longer becomes blank. The system displays a message informing you of the problem. Systems using 2 monitors can now stay in long calls (those of more than 10 hours) without experiencing changes in monitor configuration. System names may now include hyphens, dots, and spaces. These can now be entered from the user interface, and are not stripped out. Calls requiring an account number to dial can now be placed from the web interface. When the web interface is configured for Japanese, the Call Detail Report no longer includes extraneous characters. The web interface now includes the When calling 4 sites or more option for dialing ad-hoc multipoint calls. Important Information Admin Password If prompted for a user name and password when using the Web interface to control your system remotely and there is a password set on the system, enter admin as the user name and the password is the admin password set on the system. If you want to define an admin password, go to the Security screen by selecting System Info > Admin Setup > Security.
