Keep your fingers nd other objects cler of the fns when removing the Fn module. The fns continue to turn briefly fter you hve removed the module.

5 Position the Switch Environmentl Prerequisites Dnger: To void injury, Avy recommends tht two people lift or move the switch. A fully loded P460 switch weighs t lest 100 lbs (45 kg). You cn position the Avy P460 in free-stnding mode on suitble shelf or tble, or mount it in stndrd 19-inch equipment rck in wiring closet or equipment room. When deciding where to position the chssis, ensure tht: It is ccessible nd cbles cn be connected esily nd ccording to the configurtion rule. Cbles re wy from sources of electricl noise such s: rdio trnsmitters brodcst mplifiers power lines fluorescent lighting fixtures. Wter or moisture cnnot enter the cse of the chssis. There is free flow of ir round ll sides the chssis. The vents on the sides of the cse re not blocked. The tble or shelf cn hold the weight of the chssis with the PSUs nd modules. The environmentl conditions mtch the requirements listed in Tble 1. 7 Rck Mounting (optionl) Dnger: To void injury, Avy recommends tht two people lift or move the switch. A fully loded P460 switch weighs t lest 100 lbs (45 kg). You cn mount the Avy P460 in stndrd 19" rck either in front-mount or mid-mount positions with the brckets supplied with the chssis. The brckets re symmetric: you cn fix either brcket one either side. Use five screws for ech brcket. 3 Position the switch in the rck. 4 Fsten the switch in the rck with the screws provided. The screw size is 8-32x¼ Cution: Do not plce other equipment on top of the P460

9 Cble Guide Instlltion You cn use the cble guide to tidy cbles from the Supervisor nd I/O modules. The cble guide is symmetric: you cn instll the brcket on either side of the switch. Avy recommends tht you instll the cble guide on the left side of the switch to llow esier ccess to the fn module. You need to instll the rck mounting brckets before you cn instll the cble guides. Instll the switch in the rck before instlling the cble guide. Secure the cble guide to the rck mounting brcket using the cptive screws on the cble holder. See Figure 7. 10 Instll the Supervisor Module nd PSU Instll the Supervisor Module If you purchsed n Avy P460ML-CFG (Mteril code , PEC Code ), then one Supervisor Module, PSU nd the Fn Module re lredy instlled. Figure 8 shows the positions of the SPV Supervisor instlled in the P460 chssis. Use the blnking pltes supplied to cover empty slots. Cution: The Supervisor modules contin components tht re sensitive to sttic dischrge. Hndle the module by the edges only. Use pproprite nti-sttic equipment when hndling the modules.

11 3 3 Figure 9 Instlling the P460 Supervisor Module P460 b Key b Open locking hndle Closed locking hndle To instll Supervisor module: 1 Remove the blnking plte. 2 Open the locking hndles t the edge of the front pnel. 3 Position the module in the slot. See Figure 9. 4 Gently slide the module in. 5 Close the locking hndles. 6 Gently tighten the screws. 12 Instlling PSU Cution: Do not leve ny PSU slots open. Use the blnking pltes supplied to cover empty slots. 4 Use the hndle on the front pnel of the PSU to lift it. You cn instll the PSU in ny of the three slots. 1 Remove the blnking plte by unscrewing the four retining screws nd gently tugging the plte towrds you. 2 Position the PSU with the lbel fcing up nd to the right. 3 Gently slide the PSU bck until the socket on the bck of the PSU engges in the plug on the chssis. Ensure the guiding pins on the front pnel of the PSU lign with the holes on the front pnel of the P460 chssis. 4 Gently tighten the screws on the PSU. Turn on the Switch Once you hve instlled the supervisor module nd PSU, you cn turn on the switch: 1 Connect the PSU to the electricity supply. 2 Set the rocker switch on the front pnel of the PSU to I to turn the switch on. The LED on the front pnel of the PSU is lit green. The P460 is now redy for opertion with its defult settings (see Tble 12, Defult System Prmeters ). If you wish to configure the switch, see Configure the Switch.

13 Configure the Switch Before you cn set up the P460 you must instll t lest one supervisor module nd PSU nd then turn on the switch. You cn configure the switch vi sidebnd, inbnd or outbnd interfces. Connecting the Seril Console Port Ech Avy P460 supervisor module hs one seril port on the front pnel for connecting terminl, terminl emultor, or modem. The seril port on the front pnel is lbeled RS-232 nd hs n RJ-45 socket. 1 Insert the RJ-45 plug on the console cble into the Console port of the supervisor module. 2 Insert the other end into the RJ-45 socket in the supplied DB-9 dpter. 3 Insert the DB-9 plug into the seril (COM) port on the PC or terminl. To connect modem, use the cble nd n RJ-45 to DB-25 dpter. The cble nd two dpters re in the Avy P460 ccessory set supplied with the switch. Avy CLI Hints nd Tips CLI Commnd Conventions CLI commnds for you to enter re in the computer bold font. Informtion displyed on screen s well s prmeters of commnd re displyed in computer font. Prmeters tht you enter re in pointed brckets <>. Alternte but mndtory keywords re grouped in brces {} nd seprted by br. Optionl keywords re in squre brckets [ ] nd options re seprted by br. If you enter n lphnumeric string of two words or more, enclose the string in quotes. The Avy CLI hs severl fetures which improve ese of use: To disply ll commnds vilble in context type question mrk. To disply ll commnds strting with certin string, type the first few letters followed by question mrk. To get help contining ll commnds prmeters with their legl vlues s well s its syntx nd n exmple, type question mrk t the end of commnd or t the stge where it is unique. Use the Tb key to complete n unmbiguous commnd. 5

14 Estblishing Console Connection with the P460 Figure 10 M460ML-SPV Supervisor Module Seril Console Port 5 Perform the following steps to connect terminl to the P460 Seril Console port for configurtion of switch prmeters: 1 Use the seril cble supplied to ttch the RJ-45 RS-232 console connector to the Console port of the ctive M460ML-SPV module. Connect the DB-9 connector to the seril (COM) port on your PC/terminl. The ctive Supervisor module is indicted by the ACT nd OPR LEDs being lit. 2 Ensure tht the seril port settings on the terminl re: 9600 bud 8 bits 1 stop bit no prity. If you reset or powered up the switch fter connecting nd configuring the terminl, Welcome to P460 ppers followed by the Login Nme prompt. If the login prompt does not pper, press key on the terminl. 3 Enter the defult login: root. The Pssword prompt ppers 4 Enter the user level pssword: root. If you connect your terminl to the Stndby SPV (OPR nd PWR LEDs re on, ACT LED is off), you cn get ccess to ll the CLI commnds by opening Session to the Active SPV. Estblishing Telnet Connection (Outbnd) Figure 11 M460ML-SPV Supervisor Module Fst Ethernet Console Port Perform the following steps to estblish Telnet connection to the P460 for configurtion: You need to ssign n outbnd interfce IP ddress using direct connection to the console seril port before you cn estblish the Telnet session. 1 Connect terminl to the RS-232 console port. 2 When you re prompted for Login Nme, enter the defult nme root. 3 When you re prompted for pssword, enter the pssword root. You re now in redwrite level.

15 4 At the prompt, type: set interfce outbnd <ip_ddr><net-msk> with n IP ddress nd netmsk to be used by the Avy P460 Supervisor module to connect vi its PPP interfce. The outbnd interfce should be on different subnet from the inbnd interfce. 5 Connect your sttion to the Fst Ethernet console port (directly or vi the network). Use UTP Ctegory 5 cble with n RJ45 connector. The mximum UTP cble length connected to the 10/100 Mbps port operting s 10/100BASE-T is 100 m (328 ft.). You cn obtin pproprite cbles from your locl supplier. 6 Verify tht you cn communicte with the P460 using ping to the outbnd interfce IP of the P460. If there is no response using the Ping commnd, check the IP ddress nd defult gtewy of both the P460 nd the sttion. 7 Strt Telnet session: From the Microsoft Windows tskbr of your PC click Strt nd then Run or ccess the commnd prompt Strt the Telnet session by typing: telnet <P460_IP_ddress> For exmple: telnet The Login Nme prompt is displyed 8 Enter the defult nme root The pssword prompt is displyed 9 Enter the pssword root in lower cse letters. You cn now configure the P460. You cn connect the outbnd interfce to either of the supervisor module Fst Ethernet ports. Estblishing Telnet Connection with the Switch (Inbnd) Perform the following steps to estblish Telnet connection to the P460 for configurtion: You need to ssign n inbnd interfce IP ddress using direct connection to the console seril port before you cn estblish the Telnet session. 1 Connect terminl to the RS-232 console port. 2 When you re prompted for Login Nme, enter the defult nme root. 3 When you re prompted for pssword, enter the pssword root. You re now in redwrite level. At the prompt, type: set interfce outbnd <ip_ddr><net-msk> with n IP ddress nd netmsk to be used by the Avy P460 Supervisor module to connect vi its PPP interfce. 4 Connect your sttion to the I/O module (directly or vi the network). 5 Verify tht you cn communicte with the P460. The user nme is root The defult psswords for red-write ccess is root. The P460 Mnger psswords re the sme s those of the CLI. If you chnge the psswords of the CLI then those psswords become ctive for Web mngement s well. 19 If you hve the Jv plug-in instlled, the P460 Mnger opens in new window.
