2 A REASON TO WRITE! TO THE TEACHER: Writing Activities on pages are for practice only. It is not suggested that the letters be mailed as we do not guarantee the authenticity of the addresses. First, study this example: Your grandmother called and said to tell your father that his friend, Larry Parks, called her and wants to get in touch with him. Mr. Parks is staying at the Hilton Hotel. The phone number is March 4 Dad, Grandma called. Larry Parks is in town. He is at the Hilton. Call him at Ron Write a note for your mom. You took a phone call while your mother was at work. The caller was Mrs. Martinez. She said the P.T.A. meeting time has been changed from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. She also said your mother should call Mrs. James and tell her. Write a note for your sister. The nurse from Dr. Nelson s office called and said your sister has a dental appointment at 3:15 on July 26. She should call if she can t keep the appointment. 7 FRIENDLY LETTER How to write friendly letters. 1. Write as if you were talking to someone. 2. Write about what the other person would want to know. 3. Leave margins at the top, bottom, and sides of each page. 4. Write neatly. 5. Proofread your letter. 6. Be sure to include the five parts of the letter. Study the friendly letter below. Notice each part of the letter, where it is placed, and how it is capitalized and punctuated. A friendly letter has five parts.
