Book Report Makeover: Power of Persuasion Students write and deliver a 60 second speech intended to persuade others to read a book he or she has read recently. Writing and speaking persuasively will be especially difficult if you are giving the sales pitch for a book you didn't like. In that case, you can share the fact after completing the speech! Book Report Makeover: Paint a Mental Image Students read aloud the best example of descriptive prose found in a book he or she is reading. Students also should write a paragraph explaining why the excerpt is a particularly good example of descriptive prose. Include in your paragraph some of the adjectives the book's author has used to set the scene. Book Report Makeover: Map It Out! Students create a map highlighting places described in Students draw and label a map of the setting of a recently read book based on information provided by the book's author. The map should show the immediate neighborhood or the book takes place; if the author offers ample description of the home or another place as the central setting for the book, then the students' maps might detail that place. In most cases, a completed map will involve some conjecture (inference) on the part of the mapmaker! Students are to explain and justify their reasoning, in writing.
