2 The Library Objectives as Related to the Virginia The Kindergarten Student will: 1.2 K.1(SS) identify factual materials. K.6(E) 1.3 K.13(E) ask pertinent how and why questions. locate the library media center and identify its purpose. identify the librarian and his/her role. K.5(E) name the parts of a book (cover, title page, and spine). K.3(SS) identify maps and globes as sources of information. K.3(SS) use simple maps and globes to locate areas referenced in stories. K.9(E) 2.2 K.8(E) 1.1(E) 3.2 K.1(E) K.2(E) identify the arrangement of books on the shelf, including: easy, fairy tales, folktales, Mother Goose and special collections such as holiday books. distinguish between real and make believe stories. listen to a variety of literary forms. use listening and speaking vocabulary. ask about words not understood. 3.3 K.8(E) make predictions about the story. 3.4 K.8(E) retell the story using beginning, middle, and end demonstrate the ability to choose appropriate books for check out purposes. 5.1 K.8(E) identify the Caldecott Award and its significance. 5.1 K.8(E) define the terms author, title, illustrator, and illustrations. 5.1 K.8(E) demonstrate comprehension of stories, including elements of the story (character, setting, and events).
