2 LIBER CELEBRATES ITS 35TH ANNIVERSARY AT FERIA DE MADRID Organised by IFEMA and promoted by the Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain - FGEE - it will be held from 4 to 6 October in Hall 14 at Feria de Madrid. This gathering will constitute the biggest international event for books in Spanish, and offers the possibility of business opportunities to the major Spanish publishing houses. Having established itself as Europe s largest showcase for books in the Spanish language and the main hub for business and professional exchange in this industry, LIBER is open to all book-related sectors, with a special focus on digital content, new publishers, self-publishing and copyrights. 2

4 LIBER PUBLISHERS For three intense days LIBER will bring together publishers, authors, literary agents, booksellers, distributors and other industry professionals. Over the three days of the Fair, Trade visitors will be able to learn all in one place what is on offer in Spanish publishing, make new commercial contacts, and buy and/or specify Spanish books. LIBER will feature an extensive representation of the GREAT Spanish and International PUBLISHING HOUSES The Fair will also become the best platform for introducing books in Spanish to new international markets via business meetings and reverse trade missions. 4

5 LIBER LOOKS TOWARDS LATIN AMERICA LIBER 2017 will feature ARGENTINA as honoured guest country, which, together with the presence of other South American publishers, provides a boost to this professional event for books in Spanish. In addition, with a wide cultural programme and the participation of numerous authors and publishers, the dynamism of culture and literature in this publishing market will be evidenced. LIBER will be a meeting point for the main Latin American book Houses with special deals to facilitate attendance and promotions at parallel fairs in these countries (the Argentina, Colombia and Peru book fairs). Likewise, special invitations will be extended to librarians both from Europe and from South America to boost trade relations between the participating countries. 5

6 DIGITAL ZONE LIBER 2017 will again be promoting the Digital Zone, to show the new trends and innovations in the publishing world: digitalisation, reading devices, training, apps, commercialisation, on-line distribution and marketing, social reading networks, applications offering users interactive experiences, publishing and metadata management software, anti-piracy solutions, etc. A zone aimed at companies specialising in the digital environment, this is a meeting platform for content, ideas and technology that aims to meet the needs of today's publishers faced with the challenges presented by new digital products and services. It will include a presentation zone for exhibitors and specialists to showcase their IT solutions and digital publishing tools. Sessions on the products and services from exhibitors taking part in the most hitech area of LIBER. 6

8 AUTHOR ZONE The Author Zone provides a chance for independent authors to widen their knowledge of the possibilities offered by self-publishing, and the services and tools available to them. LIBER is adapting and offers solutions to the needs arising from self-publication, which is becoming increasingly established, and is open to businesses offering services to the independent author. In a single space, different publication platforms, tools, processes, etc. can be seen, and techniques of marketing, promotion via social networks and other methods of improving book sales are on show. 8

9 MICROLIBER ZONE The event will again launch the Liber Micro initiative to facilitate and encourage the participation of small publishers, entrepreneurs and start-ups in the Fair, and put buyers and visitors in contact in an easier and more affordable manner. The MicroLiber Zone is aimed at entrepreneurs, start-ups and small publishers who wish to be at LIBER under a more flexible format, better tailored to their needs. MicroLiber allows them to have a presence at the Fair and appear in the official LIBER catalogue. 9

10 PROFESSIONAL SESSIONS LIBER will once again feature an important and wide-ranging programme of professional workshops and round-tables. At LIBER 2015 Madrid, the Professional Workshops Programme featured over 70 presentations and round-tables involving 145 speakers and 82 companies, adding to what the Fair had to offer with the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences on the most up-to-date subjects. 10

11 BUYERS' PROGRAMME AND PRIORITY OPINION LEADERS PROGRAMME LIBER will include as in previous editions a wide programme of international buyers and opinion leaders to guarantee the success of investments. Over 600 professionals from all over the world were invited to LIBER 2015 (Madrid) with the purpose of promoting trade relations with the participating publishing firms and also raising awareness of the collections presented at the Fair. The FGEE has started up two targeted programmes of special relevance to foreign professionals. The Buyers' Programme: brought to Madrid some 500 booksellers, distributors and librarians, principally, from 65 countries who purchased the rights to Spanish books. The Priority Opinion Leaders Programme: dedicated to librarians, publishing agents, university professors, editors, journalists and those responsible for public bodies. About 100 book professionals from more than 25 countries with the ability to influence opinion and/or decide on or purchase Spanish books were invited. 11

12 International Spanish Language Forum 2.0 Co-organised by: The second International Spanish Language Forum will be held within the framework of LIBER 2017, through the alliance set up between the Spanish Language Platform and IFEMA, its organising bodies, and will be a continuation of the first gathering in Thus, between 4 and 6 October, the International Book Fair, established as the most important international event for books in Spanish, becomes the ideal platform to launch this second edition of the Forum, whose priority objective is to provide a boost to the Spanish language as a business-generating asset to revitalise and internationalise the various production sectors that operate around the 2nd most widely spoken language in the world. The project, designed as a forum for meeting and exchange for agents participating in the cultural industry around Spanish, will evolve around a full programme of technical sessions and trade meetings (conferences, speeches, round-tables, workshops and business meetings with specific appointments) that will encourage contact between private and public operators. The content of the International Spanish Language Forum revolves around three points, all targeted at visiting professionals: 1 linguistic technology day 1 language tourism day Half-day on bilingual content, copyright and the digital culture 12

13 LIBER PRIZES The Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain awards the LIBER prizes at a celebration held on Thursday 5 October in recognition of the work undertaken by the group of organisations connected with the world of books. 13
