1 Presenting NC Kids Digital Library ebooks from the Dare County Library! Children in Pre-School through Grade 4 can borrow NC Kids Digital Library ebooks for free using their Dare County Library card and library-assigned PIN (Personal Identification Number) to read on a computer (Windows, Chromebook, or Mac) or mobile device (ios iphone/ipad/ipad Touch, Android and Kindle Fire/Kobo/Nook Tablets). There are over 5,000 ebook titles including read alongs, picture books, chapter books, juvenile fiction and nonfiction. Over 1,000 of these titles are available to more than one borrower at a time so there is no waiting to borrow. There are even some audiobooks and videos to borrow. NC Kids Digital Library is powered by Overdrive and funded in part by the North Carolina Public Library Directors Association. What are loan periods and limits? You can check out ebooks for 14 days using your Dare County Library card barcode and PIN. After 14 days, the book will automatically be returned to the collection and disappear from your account. You can renew an ebook by selecting Borrow Again before the 14-day loan ends. You can return your ebook early so someone else can borrow it. (There are over 1,000 ebooks available to multiple users at one time, meaning these ebooks are available at all times to borrow. To find these ebooks, click on the NC Kids Digital Library home page and scroll down to the Never-ending Reading! shelf.) The Checkout limit is 5. You can have up to five ebooks checked out at one time. You must be a library borrower in good standing, with no long overdue items or fines balance over $5.00 in order to access the NC KIDS Digital Library collection.

2 Get the Overdrive app for your mobile device Kindle Fire tablets can install OverDriveapp or use OverDriveRead. How do I get started? Have your Dare County Library card and PIN available. If you don t know your library-assigned PIN, please contact your library. Go to the Dare County Library website at then on the left sidebar, either click on Children s Services or ebooks, emagazines, & eresources. Then click on NC Kids Digital Library. Click Sign In. 1. Select Library: East Albemarle Regional Library. 2. Enter your Library Card Number: Enter your library card barcode (i.e., your 14-digit library card number without spaces). 3. Enter your PIN: This is the same PIN that you use to access our Online Catalog for placing holds and checking your account. If you have never used this feature of our Online Catalog, please call or stop by the library to receive a PIN for your library account. This PIN will be the password for your NC Kids Digital Library account. 4. Optionally check the box to remember my card number on this device. 5. Click the Sign In button.

3 USING NC KIDS DIGITAL LIBRARY Below is the NC Kids home page showing shelves of books. Look for the Never-Ending Reading! shelf to borrow from over 1,000 ebooks available to multiple users at one time. Or select an ebook that shows Available from the entire 5,000 collection. Click the Magnifying Glass to Search for a keyword (author, title, subject). Or, after you click on the Magnifying Glass, limit your search by clicking on a left sidebar Search option (audience, ebooks, subject genre). Click the Books to see titles that currently on Loan to you. Search by Subjects or Collections. ebooks available to borrow display AVAILABLE above the book cover. Never-ending Reading! books are always available to borrow. Click My Account to display loan limits or to Sign Out. Click SEE ALL to display all books of a shelf. Click > to scroll through that shelf s books. To see more details about a particular ebook, click on the book cover. 4 Click BORROW FOR 14 DAYS to check out the ebook. The message The item is now checked out to you. See options for the title on your Loans page displays. (The BORROW button now displays GO TO LOANS). Click GO TO LOANS to continue. If you want to return an ebook early before the 14-day limit, go to your Loans and click on Return under the book that you want to return. Click READ IN BROWSER to continue. (Besides READ IN BROWSER, there may be other options including Download where you can select the format to download: i.e., PDF format, Kindle, etc.) Returning a book allows someone else to borrow it.

5 Use these tools to if you want to: Search within a book or click on a certain chapter, create a bookmark or to display tips. Close a book to finish later. Search Zoom in and enlarge the screen. For a Read Along ebook, click Start Narration. Otherwise, click your mouse or tap on your mobile device to go from page to page. We hope you enjoy NC Kids Digital Library.
