1 Guidelines (For preparation of MPT Dissertation/Proposed/Work Done synopsis) These guidelines cover the general rules for quality, format and appearance of MPT dissertation submitted to RK University. It is the responsibility of the students and their respective guides to read and follow the requirements presented herein. The Dissertation will not be accepted if they do not fulfill these criteria. MPT students should consult their guides for specific requirements, which shall be left to their discretion.

2 Components of the Dissertation The sequence of contents in the bound Dissertation should be as follows: 1. Cover Page & Title Page (please see sample, Annexure I) 2. Dissertation Certificate (please see sample, Annexure II) 3. Declaration (please see sample, Annexure III) 4. Acknowledgements 5. Table of Contents (please see sample, Annexure IV) 6. List of Tables (page: I..)(in tabular form) 7. List of Figures (page: II )( in tabular form) 8. List of Symbols, Abbreviations and Nomenclature (page: III.) 9. Structured Abstract (page IV.)(please see sample, Annexure V) 10. Introduction (page: 1, 2, 3.) 11. Objectives 12. Review of literature 13. Materials and Methods 14. Results 15. Discussion 16. Summary and Conclusion 17. References 18. Appendices 2

3 Style & Format General: Dissertation should be written in past tense, error-free English. The text of the entire Dissertation must be in black color, Arial fonts, size 12, justified. Fancy art work anywhere in the Dissertation which does not contribute to the methodology or outcome of the research work should be strictly avoided. 1.5 line spacing should be kept throughout the text. No spacing should be there before or after the paragraph. However, single line spacing can be used for long tables and for figures with lengthy captions. Margin should be 1.5 from Left and 1 from Right, Top & Bottom. The text of the Dissertation must be justified unless necessary otherwise. Header & Footer: Header (must have the name of the chapter on all pages, right-aligned) and Footer (must have name of the candidate, left aligned and page number in Arabic numerical, right aligned) should be placed in Arial font, size 10 point, normal and sentence case with each word capitalized. Annexure: Enter the details of various certificates/pages according to the templates provided in the respective annexure. Maintain the specifics of font type, font size and case in these templates. Chapters, Headings & Sub-headings: All chapters must be numbered in the text as in table of contents (for ex., 2. MATERIALS AND METHODS ) and must be in Arial, 14, upper case, bold, left-aligned. All headings must be subsequently numbered and must be in Arial, 12, bold and sentence case with each word capitalized, left-aligned (for ex., 2.1 Study Design ). All sub-headings must be subsequently numbered and must be in Arial, 12, normal and sentence case with each word capitalized, left-aligned (for ex., Procedure ). The rest of the text should be in Arial, 12, justified. Acknowledgements: Should be brief. Student s signature should be made at the right bottom end of acknowledgements above his/her name typed in capitals. Review of Literature: Should be arranged in paragraphs (not tables) in ascending chronological order. 3

4 Aim of Work: Should provide the complete rationale and objectives of study, point wise. Materials and Methods: It must mention test compounds / materials / reagents / chemicals etc. with their sources and authentication of plant / biological material with name of the authenticating agency. Write procedure in the form of a flowchart. Do not write results here but indicate their location at each step (e.g., the results of UV analysis are tabulated in Table no. 1 and represented as Graph no. 3). Tables and figures: They, along with their captions, should be centrally aligned and conform to the margin specifications. Large size figures should be photographically or otherwise reduced to the appropriate size before insertion. The list of tables & figures should use exactly the same captions as they appear in the text of the Dissertation. In the text, each caption of the table must be placed above the table in Arial, 12, bold and sentence case with each word capitalized and numbered in Arabic numerical (e.g., Table 1. Abc Xyz). Each caption of figure must be placed below the figure in Arial, 12, bold and sentence case with each word capitalized and numbered in Arabic numerical (e.g., Figure 1. Abc Xyz). While mentioning in the text, the tables and figures must be placed in curved brackets and mentioned as Table 1 or Fig. 1. at the end of the sentence. Equations appearing in each chapter or appendix should be numbered serially in Arabic numerical. Referencing within the text: All references in the text must be in ascending numerical order only. No reference number should be out-of-sequence. They must be cited in superscript in square brackets before the full-stop with no spaces. In case of multiple references, cite them using first and last reference number. For example xx [1]. Or xx [1-4]. Referencing in the end: The references should be arranged number-wise in the reference page with a single blank line between each reference. The required reference style is as follows: 4

Appendices: They should be numbered using Arabic numerals (e.g. Appendix 1, Appendix 2, etc.) and should be referred to in appropriate places of the text of the Dissertation in curved brackets. Appendices shall carry the title of the work reported and the same title shall be made in the contents page also. The appendices should include the copies of all necessary certificates, including the first page of the publication(s) of the candidate regarding the present work. Paper quality: A4 80 to 90 gsm white Executive Bond Paper should be used for the Dissertation which should be printed only on one side of the paper. Paper other than A4 size may be used only if it is unavoidable. Color pages, if needed, should be in pages which do not compromise the resolution of the image. Dissertation quality: The Dissertation should hard-bound between copper-brown silk leather cover pages with golden embossment of all letters. The bound side of the Dissertation should have the following in large, legible golden embossed letters: NAME OF CANDIDATE NAME OF PROGRAM [MPT (PHYSIOTHERAPY)] MAY 2014 Dissertation submission: For examination purpose, three copies (two copies for examiners and one copy for the library of the respective branch) of the bound Dissertation along with an electronic copy of the Dissertation in.pdf format written on a blank CD are to be submitted to the Director. Corrections: If the external examiner suggests some corrections then a copy of the corrections in MPT Dissertation has to be prepared after the viva-voce examination and must be duly certified by the Guide. Guide must ensure that all the corrections suggested by the examiners have been included. These corrections should be spiral bound and submitted along with the three copies of Dissertation. 7
