2 When Sir Andrew Motion (UK Poet Laureate ) and the recording producer Richard Carrington met in a recording studio in 1999, they talked about how fascinating it is to hear great poets reading their work and how tragic it is that, even in the 20th century, key poets Hardy, Housman, Lawrence were never recorded: no-one ever thought of doing so.

3 A Transformative Experience Launched in 2005, the Poetry Archive is a not-forprofit organisation that seeks to put that right. Serious and fun, the Archive makes and acquires recordings of poets from around the English-speaking world. It has grown into a much-loved resource of truly international significance.

5 The Archive contains substantial recordings by over 400 significant English-language poets. Many poems are freely available with more available to buy from the Archive s unique poetry download store. And new recordings are added every month. The Poetry Archive covers the whole spectrum of life. From love to loss, from the everyday to the magical and mythical. No matter what mood you are in, there are poems here to explore and enjoy.

6 A rich, valuable resource As well as new recordings, the Archive also includes historic recordings from the past (Tennyson and Browning are here, for example) and new recordings of work by classic poets from before the age of recording (Shakespeare, Byron, Shelley and more) read by contemporary poets, with more specially recorded for us by today s greatest actors.

7 The Children s Poetry Archive Designed for children and young people, the Children's Poetry Archive - poe tr yarchi ve.or g - currently attracts around 17,500 visitors every month to enjoy poetry suitable for a young audience. The Children's Archive is currently in the early stages of redevelopment, our vision being to give young people an early experience of poetry filled with fun and delight. Our plans present a unique opportunity for you to be involved with the project from its beginnings through to the relaunch of the Children s Archive.
